Stay out of underbrush. I have paid Deere near 2 grand for wiring pulled loose. Need sensor too low under steps kept getting torn loose.
I’d be tempted to cut the trees down around half a meter or two feet up. Later on you could come back with the bucket on your tractor and then push back and forth on the stump. The higher the stump the more leverage you have. I did this with bigger trees I cut down. I hired a bloke with an excavator to do work on my farm including digging out the stumps. He said the taller stumps gave him a lot more leverage making the removal a lot easier.
Very true
I notice the same thing with the rakers and the Stihl sharpener. My thought is that the sharpeners are setup for softwood and not hardwood but I can't say for sure.
Not sure either but it sure is annoying.
Enjoyed your video. Just ordered a carbide chain for my saw, it will be interesting.
That will be interesting, let me know how it works out.
Where's the Bark Box?
Next video this was before it arrived
Get blades from Flail Masters, Murfreesboro TN. I just replaced all 112 on mine. They manufacturer them, so you skip the middleman. I have an extreme duty Tiger flail mower, I paid $1.65 per blade for 125. Good local business for me, but they ship everywhere.
Thanks for the info
Jerry from the channel Bigelow Woodcraft had a knee replacement early this year and videoed much of it. The recovery wasn't as long as I had heard.
I hope that is the case…I’m not looking forward to the recovery but it will be nice to have full use of my knee and not be in pain.
Hi, every man needs at least one John Deere machine😁
True!
you move pretty well for a guy with a bum knee. looks like a nice house lot for your man cave cabin
Luckily I have a high pain tolerance and the pain is still manageable but I am slower at most everything.
Thank you sir!
Everything is looking good Chris!
I guess I had assumed the flail was a Landpride. Have to admit we balk at the higher price of the Landpride implements too, but we did go Landpride for the 2 rotary cutters (5' and 6'). Snowblower and Woodchipper we went with WoodMaxx. That backhoe looks like a great addition for the land clearing you've been doing. When clearing the orchard site we realized quickly the tractors wouldn't be able to remove the nearly 1,000 stumps we had to clear and hired a track hoe. What we paid him would have bought two of those JD's! Would have been nice to have for other projects. Things are looking good Chris!
@@andysmith8544 Thank you!
What's the story behind that fireplace/chimney in the woods by the trail? Was there a house attached to it at one time?
@@southernadirondackoutdoors I was told That was an old cabin the burned down in the late 60s.
You've been busy! Interested to hear what issues you've seen with the flail.

The lights on my Kubota are not the greatest either...what was the brand you used?
Tiger Lights i found them on amazon but they also have a website.
Welcome back. You are the only person I've seen on YT use a flail over rougher terrain. Most reviews and demonstrations are on perfectly flat lawn like fields. How does it work going over uneven terrain and through dips? I've been considering one but wasn't sure how it would handle rougher terrain than is usually shown.
Its not the best, I have to adjust the height often through the dips. But it leaves a nice cut and I am working to make the fields smoother all the time. That was the first time some of that field was ever mowed shoe new time should go smoother
I have about 750 hours on my open station 5075E. 2 starters and cold start sensor have been only issues. I like the tractor alot personally
It was a great machine for me.
Owned mine for three years . Had to replace starter after only 100 hours. Roading it from one field to another tractor ran like crap, had a pinched fuel line. Tires are cheap made in India Galaxy brand and had to replaced one front tire after two months ,tire split from inside out and could not be repaired, second front tire did the same thing only a few months later. One rear tire split from inside out after about 1 year of use, had a 1/8 hole on outside and a 2 inch hole on inside. 300 dollars to fix. Needs better brand of tires and Needs wider front tires. And beware dealer does not put liquid in rear tire unless you ask so if you have a front loader tractor rear will tip up with a bucket full of dirt. I would rather find an older made in Germany John Deere. Their well built and will run forever.
Pop your front end loader up & down quickly a few times and you’ll be able to dislodge a lot of the sticks caught in your rake’s tines
Nice rig you have there,we have the same. A little point for you. Put a small fan in front of your draft door , it will push some cool air into your fire box. We have the last 2 years, huge improvement on your boil. Enjoy
Thanks for the tips!
Be well and be safe Chris, see you in Aug.
Guessing Noble or similar? four month rotation? tough. be safe.
Bon voyage and stay safe! See you in August.
Greetings from Finland
Do you burn the infected wood?
It will probably eventually get burned in our evaporator at some point
Appreciate the history with your farm name.
Them borer grubs would work good for ice fishing bait haha
I've wondered about the name and word on the tractor too. Those pine borers (I don't know their actual name) sure can move in quickly. Bearded Lumber down in NC have a market for swiss cheese pine for paneling.
I'm curious about the nods at Finnish culture, how'd you end up with the name Kalevala and Sisu tractor in the logo?
My family is Finnish and proud of it, our original farm was an hour north of here, and it was named Kalevala Farm.
6", that's nothing, we got 16", blew 2 shear pins on the snow blower, had to drill new pin holes, couldn't find the broken pins. too muddy and greasy. Something to do when the weather turns for the better.
Wish we just got snow the ice and sleet blows, made a big mess.
hi there good show john
I'm glad I wasn't the only one digging up some gravel plowing the driveway! How many cars end up in your driveway when they don't make that corner?
None so far, we don't get much traffic and those that do know the corner on go slow.
Good job to do, it seems like many folks wait too long to get next year's firewood split and stacked to dry.
I like to try and stay well ahead on firewood.
Nice operation! Where are you located? Also I just sub’d.
Thanks for the sub! We are in the south west corner of NH
@@kalevalasouthfarm not too far away. I am in the Syracuse area and I have a camp in Boonville, NY
don’t cut the black birch down, tap it and make birch syrup. 100 gallons to one.
Someday, maybe our property is loaded with Birch.
What brand tires are they new ones? I'm trying to do the same with mine.
I believe they are BKT I ordered through PETES tire barn
How much sap you leave in pan after you drain off , so not to burn up the pan, for your final last boil
Nice video
Thanks
I am a little confused, well, sometimes that is an understatement. LOL. Why do you need a car relay when the temp controller has a built in relay? I have seen this before on some other videos and was wondering. I have this same setup but without the car relay and have had no problems. Just curious why it is needed?
I followed the plans that I found online and they called for the the rely which my guess is for the higher amp rating. The Temp controller is only rated for 10 Amps the relay is 30 amps so it just builds in a safety factor, to prolong the life of the temp controller. But if yours works without the extra relay that's good to know for the future.
Yeah, I thought of that too. The pump is only rated at 7.5 amps so I figured I was good. If it blows up, then I guess I should have used the extra relay.... :)@@kalevalasouthfarm
It still seems strange when you turn the camera around and there is not a green tractor there 🤣 I started watching Nate at Bissell Maple some time ago because of his sawmill videos and continued with his maple videos...between him and you I'm picking up a whole new vocabulary of maple terms.
Maybe some sugaring in your future🤔
Love that rig! I want to updgrade for next season 2025. Shoppin' around!
Its been great so far. Good luck!
spot on, sugar content is rather low. boiled 70 to 80 gallons of sap and got a pint over 3/4 gallon. sugar sand gumming up the filters.
I guess its not just me
Cool❤ when I was a young man I did this a a family farm in Mass
Deere is grossly overpriced, especially the smaller tractors and their parts.
Great video buddy, glad you're liking your new tractor. " Did I not get any of that?"😂 I appreciate you leaving that in so I could have a good chuckle first thing in the morning.
Glad to see you got a real tractor. John Deer are overpriced , made in Japan by Yanmar or some other manufacturer. Kubota’s will take a licking and keep on ticking.
Very subtle camera transition between the green and orange 🤣 I have to admit that John Deere's are good machines but when I was in the market I found them way more expensive than others and the proprietary front end quick attach turned me off.
I am not a fan of JDs front end either, I made sure before I bought the JD that I could get the skid steer QC
That's a beauty Chris! We're very happy with our 2 Kubota's. Did you have to replace any loader implements due to the change from JD's system to Quik Hitch?
That you! No sir the JD had skid steer quick connect, when I purchased that machine I had the dealer order the loader with it
I'm happy for you...miss the snow...stuck here in Florida...
He can handle those tires just fine, in Europe they're sold with lot taller and wider tires
