This was from last January on a cruise with Dennis and Jules Howren. Crazy fun times even though I was off key!
I know this video is several years old but I was hoping you could tell me if you were successful in defeating the kudzu bugs? Did they return?
Did you buy your plants at a store? Perhaps you should start your own from seed next year to prevent bringing them home.
My understanding is that they lay their eggs on flat surfaces - which would mean not "in" the dirt. I would pull up the plants - throw them in a garbage bag - not in the yard somewhere - and turn the dirt over with some diatomaceous earth. That stuff kills all kinds of varmints in the ground. Hopefully since there are no eggs to hatch, they won't be back next year. At least that's my theory. Next year, keep a weathered eye on your plants. If you see one, spray with soapy water.
Thank you so very much for your reply and the tips :-) But, I have a few more questions, when pulling up the plant to throw away, should we get rid of the dirt too? Do they lay eggs in the dirt or just the plants? We were going to just throw away the plants but just turn the dirt over for early springtime planting. Mmmm, wondering if we should just build a darn greenhouse, LOL!
I only used pressurized water to get the eggs off of my house. As far as the plants, yes, once they take up residency, you have to pull up the plant and throw it in a garbage bag. They are constantly laying eggs. Keep the eggs away and they will go away. I have not had any back since this experience. So sorry about your veggie plants. My neighbors on each side of my house WERE NOT BOTHERED by ONE bug! Why did they pick my house? I think the eggs were on plants I bought from Costco.
What were the rsults of the pressure wash? These damn things KILLED all of our veggie, pepper and herb plants. We have a farmer who planted acres of soy all around us, they will have soy and we will have NOTHING!!
Kill each individual bug with soapy water or they will continue to lay more eggs! Be vigilant! You can do it!
Soapy water will not get the eggs off! You need a HARD stream of water - not necessarily soapy for the eggs. They are stuck on the surfaces and the hard spray will take them off after you hit each set of eggs for about 5 to 10 seconds. If you have a pressure washer, that would be great. I just have something that screws onto my hose with different spray settings. I use the "stream" one. If you don't get the eggs off, they will hatch in 6 weeks and they will start all over again! Good luck
Thank you for your post. I am warring the little beasts also. so far I have been letting them be. but the little eggs are making my house look terrible. I have searched the internet to find out what to do about the eggs. Your post is the only thing I have found. I am heading outside now to soap down my house and hopefully get rid of the eggs. THANKS!!!
Since they are attracted to light colors, I thought that might deter them. My theory is that a swarm comes along, lays thousands of eggs, and eventuallly dies off for the new colony to take over. Just kill the living ones as best as you can with soapy water (it's fun!) and wash all of eggs off. If you have light colored curtains, pull them back! Let me know how it works for you.
THEY ARE GONE! We killed the bitches and sprayed all of the eggs off of our house and windows keeping vigilant several times a day. The eggs take 6 weeks to hatch so if you have to work, just do it when you get home. Get another set of eyes as my daughter found more after I thought I had gotten them all. I went to Walmart and got a $20 squirt gun that shot 40 feet and got the ones that were up high on the gutters. Oh, and I also raised all of my white wooden blinds in the windows.
He is an amazing reader. Of course, it's all by intervals but it seems he doesn't even have to think about it. His Mom and I just look at each other in awe! Truly gifted little boy. And he's a joy to be with.
i am amazed that he has already begun to read! he plays with wonderful energy.
It's a cool rainy day and I'm still finding traces of eggs showing up on my windows even after I sprayed them clean a couple of hours ago. These bugs are relentless! They are attracted to light colors so I've raised my white blinds as much as I can to see if that helps any.
About an hour after hard spraying the eggs off of my windows and siding, they have actually laid more eggs. I am determined to stay on top of them. Every hour I am going out and spraying the bugs with soapy water and hitting the eggs with a hard spray from my hose. Tomorrow I have someone coming to pressure wash my gutters. I am determined to get rid of these varmints once and for all! Stay tuned....
