On this channel we will explore a myriad of ideas, including; why we think and behave in certain ways, toxic v nourishing cultures & societies, leaders and self leadership, All this through accessing research, sharing experiences, and being in conversation with those who are expert and knowledgeable in their own areas.
This channel values (amongst others) these questions:
How can we live life well?
How can we do as much good as possible?
How can we avoid self sabotage?
How can we avoid being sabotaged by others?
We need to create a world which is more compassionate, and everyone has a role to play in that endeavour.

'That was the curious incident,' remarked Sherlock Holmes."

A different way of measuring psychopathy has revealed something interesting
Dr Clive Boddy’s research suggests that there are more female psychopaths in the population than was initially thought. Some previous estimates considered the ratio to be 6:1 male to female. Dr Boddy’s work suggests that the ratio may be closer to 1.2:1 male to female.
There has been some criticism about his approach. How he measures psychopathy is different from that of someone utilising the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised, or PCL-R and the PCL:SV (Screening Version).
However I believe that Dr Boddy’s PM-MRV instrument is equally valid. It is simply using a different lens for a different purpose.
In this video I explore some of the differences in the approaches and highlight some of Dr Boddy’s findings.
I mention being ‘delighted’ in the thumbnail, because the more we understand about psychopathy, prevalence, types…the better.

These days, with bad actors, misinformation, disinformation, AI, CGI, and outright lies, who and what can we trust? I think it’s actually quite hard to say for sure. The Two Fundamental Errors made by Keir Starmer and his Government

There are others, but I feel that these errors are the most important, highlighting a potential lack of self awareness, and common sense. • The Armchair Expert’s error • The Technocratic Leader’s error #keirstarmer #lea...

We can achieve a lot and endure a lot if our lives have meaning and purpose. And I think it’s fair to say that there is a symbiotic relationship between meaning and purpose. One word which I think can help us define where we can find meaning, is ‘mattering’. It is suggested that if we can find meaning in suffering then we are more likely to be able to bear it. What do you think? Is meaning impo...

Your slide format & sound/vision quality was much improved on this one, Thank You :) My workplace holds mandatory diversity inclusion workshops, which not only give staff a platform to air their disgruntlements/ideas but also to raise awareness of how others feel at work. The discussions can be quite surprising & bring issues to light that others had no clue about. Some of our senior colleagues may on occasion have had embarrassingly archaic views or been quite ‘closed’ but in their defence I noticed that these events have lead to positive changes from them rather than just paying lip service.
Don’t forget to ask people to give a thumbs up and to comment to help the algorithm at the beginning or middle of the video:)

@@rebeccaclarke8795 Thank you for your comment. Yes I understand, have also met a few ‘friends’ like that! It doesn’t mean that they are psychopaths, it could mean that they are simply disagreeable, or maybe they have certain psychopathic traits. However the psychological hurt can be the same. And of course this can apply to both males and females. P.S. hello me!!! 😊😊😊
A top video for a grey day, really imaginative content 👌🏻 In it’s time the imposingly gothic Balmoral clock must have witnessed many genuine meet ups. And think of all the missed opportunities or lucky breaks that have occurred over the past hundred years or so just because of those three precious minutes!

Just me thinking; That ending is cut off abruptly?

I must admit, i definitely didnt have a mobile phone back in 1902!😉 The importance of speaking and meeting someone in person is, i believe very key to getting a better understanding of something colser to the truth. We do live in a strange alternate world 🌎 online relationships, we don't necessarily know the real person, just the persona they wish to convey.. think being naturally sceptical and cautious and questioning everything, so no bad thing in this world 🌎
Many thanks for your comment, I couldn't agree more! An alternate world is a great way to describe it! Very often these days we don't really know who we are dealing with online (individuals and groups) and we have to make assumptions. So it pays to be cautious. Particularly when some people go out of their way to deliberately seem like something that they are not!

@@jeanettekay4014 Ha ha ha!!! 👏👏👏
Very interesting.. through our pain and suffering.. hopefully we grow and learn... a lifelong journey of learning 😅 I personally felt I mattered and connected on an existential level, like never before during one of the saddest times; caring for my dying father. ✨️ and felt deprived of that sense of meaning with the lose of my Mother, after caring for so long. Strange to say the feeling of connected to something larger than self.. came in ; nature, and death.. but can also find meaning in doing small simple things 🤔 Hope this makes sense 😅 .
@@jeanettekay4014 Hi Jeanette! Thanks very much for sharing! That all makes absolute sense to me. Yes if you have been a carer and then you’re not, it can be quite a jolt, in addition to the sad loss of someone, there is the loss of that part of our identity. And I couldn’t agree more, we can also find meaning in the small things. In fact sometimes that’s the most powerful and beneficial thing for us🙏
Thanks Mike 😊@TimeInvitesDevelopment
He is evil and out to steal from all of us - the British population ??!!!!! As far as I can see he seems to be the most unpleasant inconsiderate person who has the ability to tell all of us what to do and how to do it - as well as FLEECING US ALL OF OUR HARD-EARNED CASH !!!! The sooner he is removed the better. AND I MEAN REMOVED !!!!
Ha ha!!!👏👏👏 Yes a great leader is required! I don’t think Keir is right for this particular role. I really wish he was, but unfortunately he just doesn’t seem to have what it takes to lead this country at this time.
I completely agree with your view on this. No moral compass and integrity. Some agree, some don't. John Bercow is Labour. He should be in No 10. No one else comes close to his credentials and charisma. A great Leader is called to the role. Someone make it so... John can put Politics in Orrrrderrr!!!!
Its quite astonishing how many videos there are on Starmer (and Lammy). Not one gives praise. Does Xtwiitter follow suit? Records are surely being broken here.
Yes it would seem that Keir’s style has just not gone down well. (DL too). I’m not sure about Xtwitter, I only occasionally venture there, but certainly on YT and in in-person conversations with people, KS does tend to (at the very best) be regarded uninspiring. I generally don’t comment too often on politicians, but there’s something worrying about the lack of connection between KS and much of the population. I really hope he can change! 🤞
I like your attitude that finding meaning & purpose is an ongoing process. It’s a good feeling to discover what is truly important in life. I was having a conversation with a wise friend about not being ruled by money; they were talking about watching movies as a child where it was the be all and end all to the characters when they found a huge treasure chest filled with gold, rich beyond their wildest dreams. They thought this was an odd thing to be excited about; they were right, and as you get older you realise that’s not the thing that’s going to make you feel like you matter in this world. Accept reality; if you’re suffering then suffer, let it hurt until you find peace with it. There is a point to it and things will get better. We can choose who we are, and choose again and again. As humans surely that’s our superpower?
Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. I do wonder whether the focus on money (but not everyone and not in every part of society of course) has set much of the human race off on the wrong course. We hear of wonder drugs and efforts to rebuild dwellings after natural disasters etc. etc. all with a hefty 2:16 price tag. Whilst the existence of money can have many benefits, it always seems to me that when we put a price on everything, we’re missing the opportunity to better ourselves, to reach a higher level of development. And yes of course that utopian ideal requires buy-in (no pun intended) from a lot of people. However, perhaps one day. I think your idea about choice being a superpower is very interesting. I think it could definitely be described as a superpower. Perhaps that is a key differentiator between humans and other species. Although I’m never quite sure about the squirrels. They’re always up to something :)
Thanks Mike, a utopian world is within reach I’m sure, but I think mankind is likely to destroy it a little more before that happens! And aren’t we lucky to have a choice in how we act in the world everyday. Squirrels 😂 yes, don’t trust anything that’s teeth never stop growing or that steals all the lead from your garage roof!
To be fair, perma-growing teeth are probably an understandable evolutionary adaptation if you have a insatiable taste for lead.
@@TimeInvitesDevelopmentVery true! 😁
@@StormJ99 😊😊😊
The curse of human consciousness. I assume everything that brings us as close to our nature as a hominid is probably all we need. Purpose was survival of our band of people. If that was going well then there was time left over for the imagination and creativity. I tend to think life is meaningless but I enjoy feeling like I’m meaningless when in awe of the universe and nature.
Thanks for your input! Really appreciate it. I definitely agree that much of the history of the human race was to do with forming tribes to help facilitate survival. And as you say, the curse of human consciousness - yes! There are certainly days when I consider it to be a bit of a cosmic joke! And there are also days when I wonder if it is all for nothing. That there is no meaning. And yet, I find that difficult to accept. And funnily enough when I look out on nature or at the stars, and experience that feeling of wonder, awe, sometimes joy…well those are some of the experiences that make me think that there has to be some meaning in all of it. However, perhaps I’m in denial and/or just being stubborn :)
@@TimeInvitesDevelopment I have a clear memory of my dad telling me there’s more stars in the sky than grains of sand on the beach we were walking on. I was about 7 or 8 and I never forgot it because it was the moment I realized how insignificant I was. I see myself as a bunch of atoms with a consciousness. For people with dementia or a brain injury or people with cluster b personality disorders, they are not searching for meaning at all, so this is kind of a luxury problem for those with a normal IQ and a functional brain. I think it’s useful to think of meaning if you have depression or perhaps in youth in particular but otherwise it’s all about the curse of being aware of your death.
@@scarba That’s an excellent point you make about people with compromised brain function. I do think that many people with dementia, particularly Lewy body dementia, are capable of searching for & finding meaning. Even in late stage with limited abilities to care for themselves, or communicate with much clarity, you can see moments in amongst the cruelty of it, where they show that they are still able to feel joy, shame, fear of their own mortality, a sense of self, even on occasion to show empathy, love & concern for another person. We may never know what these poor souls are thinking but I like to hope that they still have meaning in their lives until they depart. Never forget, you are significant, a greater force put you amongst those stars & those grains of sand to be an equal part of it, to really matter 😊
@@StormJ99 I’m happy to know I’m no more interesting than a fallen leaf. I find it rather comforting that I’m just an animal, part of nature. After all at what point along the long tree of life did we decide we were above the rest of the animal kingdom? Homo Habilis ? Homo Erectus? Meaning comes from connection with nature and each other because we happen to have evolved as social beings. No matter if we invent the atom bomb or artificial intelligence, we cannot escape our flesh and blood and our nature.
@@scarba Wise words. I certainly think that my life would not feel so meaningful if I couldn’t connect with the natural world around me.
Starmer is a deeply unpleasant man. He has had a very suspect past including aiding the incarceration of journalist Julian Assange. His lies are pathological, his personality that of a sociopath. I have never trusted him nor his acolytes. With luck he will be removed, the sooner the better.

The Mandala effect is just people confusing the release of Mandela from prison, which was a huge media event, and the death of Mandela.
@@23strawbale Thank you very much! Yes it’s definitely that. And there are several examples of people having differences of recollection about well known events. Most are false memories. But a few are harder to explain.
How long has the Mandala effect been called the Mandela effect?

You were expecting 007? Sorry M, he is otherwise engaged on TikTok 😁 You’ve chosen an intriguing topic to talk about. I found the section on encoding & retrieval interesting. We are so susceptible to suggestion. If we can remember or ‘falsely’ remember such trivial things; what important or life changing things are we being programmed to falsely remember? Brainwashing & subliminal messaging can be massive contributory factors for Ψευδομνησία. @@TimeInvitesDevelopment probably a glass or two of a good wine would be even better. Roger Moore possibly the worst Bond but even for him it did stink like ripe Stilton.
When I say, “That was when Jaws clicked.” I mean, that was when he realised Dolly would have no part in the supervillains genetically perfect super race. James Bond knows Jaws loves Dolly, and whatever fix James is in as part of the big final scene- it’s only because of Jaws’s super strength, so if James can turn Jaws to his side, he will defeat the baddie, (Drako?) James gets him talking his future plans and about how the genetically imperfect will be disposed of and Jaws looks at Dolly realising he means her. I am remembering this from a very different scene to the ones you showed, very near the end. As I was quite young watching this for the first time, (probably on VHS) my dad was basically explaining the plot to me. Therefore I remember it was her eyesight, not her teeth that made Jaws switch sides. And probably smash up the space lazer or whatever it was. I have not seen the film in about a decade nor looked at any media about it since first seeing your TT. Blame the word limit over there. But cheesiest of all is that last line from Dr Goodhead, “James, take me round the world one more time!” 🤮

@@TimeInvitesDevelopmentI’m tempted to watch it again now, or maybe just the last 20 minutes. As I recall, which we have proved maybe wrong, it’s James in a rare example using psychology rather strength or which ever gadget Q gave him at the beginning of the film which means he wins, saves the world or whatever. I just can’t remember if it’s because Jaws has him in a headlock and releases him or sabotages the crucial equipment. Did it ever occur to you that Bond gadgets are very like 1960s Batman utility belt, if he needs shark repellent then he just happens to have it, if he needs an explosive pen, then he has that. I wish I was that good at packing.
@@HattieMidnight Ha ha! Yes, come to think of it, you are absolutely right!...they are often just like Batman's utility belt! And Bond really doesn't use much in the way of psychology in the movies - that's a great point!
