How to Identify Wires on your Vehicle's Lamps
In this video, I will show you how to identify the function of different wires on your vehicle’s lamps using a multimeter and test light. This is important if you want to install aftermarket lights and a reverse camera like I have.
Let’s begin with the multimeter. Set it up by plugging the negative probe into the common port and the positive probe into the voltage port. The appropriate direct current voltage in this instance is 20 volts so set accordingly.
Begin by unplugging your lamp. Now, locate the earth wire. The color is typically white on Land Cruisers. The negative probe on the multimeter will be attached to this. The positive probe will be moved around to check where there is power to identify each color wire on the plug.
Begin with the brakes. Attach the negative probe from the multimeter to the earth.
Move the positive probe around until you get a voltage reading on the multimeter. This is the brake wire so take note of its positioning on the plug and color.
Repeat the steps for the signal. You will notice the voltage reading fluctuates up and down. This is because of the intermittent nature of turn signals. The power feed is not constant.
Take note of the signal wires’ positioning on the plug and color.
Do the same for the park light. Take note of the taillight wires’ positioning on the plug and color.
Do the same for the reverse light. Take note of the reverse wires’ positioning on the plug and color.
Now let’s use the test light. Begin by grounding the negative. Move the probe around to identify where there is power. As you can see, the test light is simple and easy to use, however, the multimeter displays a digital reading which is ideal in most automotive applications.

How to Fix Fast Flashing LED Turn Signal with Load Resistors
Переглядів 11821 день тому
Did you recently install some aftermarket LED lamps? Are your turn signals flashing faster than normal? In this video, I will show you how to fix fast flashing turn signals. This is a common problem in late-model vehicles if you install aftermarket LED indicators or combination brake, reverse, turn signal, and taillight without load resistors. This is because LED lights draw much less power com...
