    The reason hooks smaller than mm exist is to work thinner threads, as opposed toyarns. I live in Puerto Rico and prefer not to use acrylic yarns as they're hot. A thin cotton thread, for example, size 3 cotton worked with a 2.10 mm hook makes a beautiful cool garment. Yes, it takes a little longer to complete, but it fits the need. 😊

    Unpopular opinion: Stop being lazy and search for the center pull, ffs it's not that hard to find! It's going to make everything so much easier. To me, tension rings and yarn bowls show a lack of commitment to learning/improving. (Though I do admit some of the bowls are cute)

    my unpopular opinion: i hate it when other crafters compare themselves to me or others yes you can look at someones skill and think it's impressive but as an advanced crocheter and knitter someone who has only been knitting garder stitch their whole time cannot compare themselves to someone who makes cable patterns and if its someones way to ask for help to how to advance just ask me that stop telling me "i can never get like you" its discounting the hard work ive put into my craft and your own capabilities!!!!

    I really don't understand why the discussion between crochet vs. knit is so big in North America. I'm from South America and we couldn't care less. In fact, is common here for the older folk to do knit, crochet, embroidery and similars all together. Of course some grannies have their preferences, but there's not a comparison like that. If they feel a certain piece would look better in crochet, they do it in crochet. If they think is better knitted, they knit.

    I disagree with the "anyone can crochet" because as you said, willpower is important and some people just don't have it. I want to bang my head on a wall when I see some posts/questions on some groups and I really have to keep my cool and not respond with a snarky comment like " just google it" "go on youtube" etc. If that makes me a mean person, then I guess I'm mean but I have no patience for people that think they deserve all the hard work to be done for them and for free on top of that. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! Which brings me back to what I was saying at the beginning. If you can't be bothered to look up a youtube tutorial on your own, how can you expect to learn to crochet?

    i have to partially disagree with the "everyone can learn crochet" thing: there ARE people with physical or cognitive disabilities that would literally prevent them from crocheting, and while i don't think those people were who you were thinking about / talking about in this video, they're still part of "everyone" haha. also i have adhd and i gotta say, when you said it's just a matter of consistency, motivation, etc, my first thought was "wow, before i was medicated i had none of that lol". and i think the same can be true for some people really struggling with mental illness, etc. so yeah, no hate whatsoever, i just wanted to point out the fact that some people have circumstances out of their control that could make learning really difficult or even impossible, and saying everyone can do it if they just have the willpower is not always true. i do believe that for people who have the ability as well as the interest to learn but can't get into it, it's likely that they're trying to learn in a way that doesn't work for them. i learned from youtube and have had a fairly easy time with it, but i know a lot of people who talk about how difficult crochet is and how they just can't learn, and for a lot of them the issue seems to be the way they've been trying to learn.

    • @Crochetcoutureuk

      Ahhhh yes I totally agree with you on this!! I completely over looked that unpopular opinion 😅 but yes you’re right with what you’re saying!! Thank you for educating me about this side of crocheting!! I really appreciate it and I’ll be more mindful and think more inclusively of everyone ❤

    TL;DR: amigurumi and granny squares bad for beginners. start with swatches. adhd/oct etc. never do granny square projects or blankets or scarves. Mine is that amigurumi and granny squares are the wrong place to start. There's a lot of different techniques and it can get overwhelming. Instead, learning a slip knot, chaining, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, treble crochet, slip stitch, and magic ring (using swatches) is a lot easier and you're a lot more likely to stick to crochet. You also get a lot better feel for the yarn and hook you're using and get used to gauge swatches that way. Once you're comfortable, start with amigurumi. Granny squares are a no no if you have adhd, ocd, etc. And blankets and scarves are terrible first projects (or ever for those with adhd/ocd since its too repetitive to be stimulating enough). If you need a sense of completion as a beginner, go for something like a coaster or bookmark before trying stuff like amigurumi and granny squares.

      as someone with adhd, i started with granny squares and now im obsessed! I made a granny square blanket, and my current projects are either all granny squares or blankets (and one more granny square blanket). having the dopamine rush every time i finished a square is the only thing keeping me going, and making blankets for my friends and family is so rewarding!!

    My unpopular opinion: Not everyone should sell their crochet work starting off. I've been in so many online groups where people start crocheting just because they want to sell it (which is fine) but then they ask for pricing advice, and when I see the picture of the item..... All I can say is that they need more practice before wanting to sell. I'm talking gaps in stitches, things sewn on lopsided and threads hanging out... Just please build up your skill sets before wanting to sell.

    • @WeirdSnakeGal
      @WeirdSnakeGal 8 днів тому

      At my first show last month, there was another crochet booth and my niece's friend bought a mushroom pop from them. They had a sleepover and I slept at my brother's too so the next day I was helping with clean up and I picked up a few crochet stuff to ask what belongs to which little girl. As I did, I noticed the end poking out of the cap. At first I thought it was one I made and felt awful but then I realised it wasn't because the quality was erm, not the same. So I ended up fixing it for her the very next day she bought it. I feel like that's a pretty bad mistake when you sell, especially with chenille yarn.

    • @marumokwa
      @marumokwa 7 днів тому

      I second this with q turn: not everyone should sell crochet, it's OK to be just a hobby! I'm new to crochet and many people keep me asking if I'm going to sell and no, I won't. I wanna make crochet for me and my loved ones only.

    • @Crochetcoutureuk

    • @marumokwa
      @marumokwa 7 днів тому

      I really don't understand the obsession with eco-friendly/wool Cort, cotton yarn you guys in North America have... Here in the south we use what we have or the texture we want for a project, if it's made of acrylic... So be it.

    • @Crochetcoutureuk
      @Crochetcoutureuk 7 днів тому

    my unpopular opinion which i think alot of people will hate me for is that you shouldnt call urself a professional crocheter or even a good crocheter if u just use patterns. so much of the creativity and skill comes from making the patterns/designs urself. i will never shame someone for using a pattern obviously but ur missing out on like half the fun. also slightly unrelated but the people who will comment 5000++ times on anything crocheted on tiktok or pinterest ect. just saying 'pattern?' 'wheres the pattern??' are so annoying like 90% of the time its right there and ur just not looking or its literally a granny square cardigan or something like u can figure it out urself
