"Holding engineers accountable" won't increase speed. It will mean that the engineer will tick EVERY LAST CHECKPOINT to avoid blowback if something goes wrong.

Claiming the user doesn't care about code quality is like claiming a diner doesn't care about kitchen cleanliness. Sure they can't see it, so they won't tell you about it directly, but they definitely care about indirect outcomes of a dirty kitchen.

Thank you Matt for another insightful content. I really love the idea of, "Understand the users their problem, why are we building this things", "We need more people that understand how our product works so we know how to build". I am looking forward of taking the course and apply it my workflow as a Software Engineer. I hope one day to hold that book you talked about here. I am so excited to learn more about this mindset.

European here. I never ever hire US SWEs, because they cost me a minimum of 3x more than what i can get here without any quality difference. Eastern europeans can be hired for around 40k a year and i am not talking about juniors. Those are smart people with university degrees and a couple years of experience. They speak solid english, many even a second foreign language and are motivated to make cash for their families in international businesses. I have no reason and motivation to pay for overepriced US citizens that want the money for their personal circumstances, not for what they actually deliver compared to international competition. This might sound harsh and triggering, but that's the reality.

Right, but there are accountants and all other sorts of industries you can hire from around the world remotely. That’s not a great idea either. You will 100% get better quality from an in-house team, every time. I’ve seen it over and over.

@@roque-au-parcus Does that mean businesses in all these other countries should only hire people in the USA? They have no talented people in their own countries?

I love so much that you are talking about delegation and focus on what you're enjoying and good the most. For me managing a lot of people was not my strength and it was a tough lesson to let someone else do it for me. I was not enjoying it as much as working on strategic initiatives. I had to let go of the ego and stop thinking I have to be the one in charge of people. Love your new channel! 💪
