Zempire Aero TXL Pro Series Wind and Rain Performance Test by Family of Four in the Great Outdoors
No poles? No worries…. The aero pole is perfect for rough windy and torrential rain. We’ve tested it. January in NSW of 2022 was not a dry one.
As you’d can see it wasn’t the picturesque camping trip or the quietest night but we certainly remained dry!!

Early December’s quick trip to Ingenia Holiday’S One Mile Beach on NSW’s East Coast. Loved the longboard waves and the endless beach! It was wet, so the post camp tent hang from the house was a must! Open up the bottom doors and the sand escapes too! Ever been? Where are you headed next? Love to hear your stories!

I love my black wolf self inflating mattress as well but I can’t find any information on how to use the bag to inflate to make it firmer. If anybody has instructions could you please comment?
Hi Jacqueline, literally just trap air in it as you would any other bag, swing it around to imitate a parachute or a hot air balloon ( lol ) and trap air in it, seal it off at the open end, attach the valve end to your mat and squeeze the bag to your desired firmness. Hope my wacky explanation helps 😊
Thanks for the video! Looking to buy two of these for short (3 or 4 day) camping trips.
I'm also interested in an update on your camping setup. How is your amazing tent holding up?
Thanks for the review, I bought the black wolf and it’s really comfortable
it's really great you're living in Australia! May I know that for this TXL tent, does most holiday park camp site could accomodate it while parking the car at a side? i gonna do my first family camping next month and am considerating this tent. just wonder would it be too big for some park?
Its been a while since your last post, missing your videos!! Can we please get an update on your camping adventures? :)
Hi James, thanks for this! So helpful. Just wondering which Thumper battery box you have exactly? Thank you!
Thank you for the good review. We ended purchased a TXL pro for my family of five with 2 teens. This tent is way over our expectation. My only complaint is that there are no hooks in the lounge compartment to hang lantern. I have to resorted to use 2 Olight Obulb Pro to magnetically stick to a small metal piece outside the tent's roof. Not a deal breaker. I have thought out a solution to have lighting hanging off the roof but need to test it out on our next camping trip.
Really good review. I was considering this test for our family of five (all three kids under 5), but ended up buying Aerodome 1 pro, because we don’t need an internal living space, but wanted something super easy to set up by just one person. Kids will sleep in the bedroom, parents in the lounge. Time will tell if it was a good choice for us, the tent will arrive next week.
Hi. I really like your channel, just subscribed. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids under 6. We just sold a canvas pole tent (Diamantina Hacienda), which was a 3 room layout similar to your Aero TXL Pro. I.e. rectangle with sleeping at the back, living in the middle and annex at the front. The tent was great, it just took too long to set up e.g. 90 mins. We want to cut that time down significantly. We are Sydney based, looking for a tent for long weekend to week-long trips. Similar locations to your videos you have posted. Like you we are looking at the Zempire air tents, particularly the Aero Pro TXL and Air Force 1 v2. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on Air Force 1 v2. It is a huge jump in price from the Aero Pro TXL, aside from that do you see any downsides to it? E.g. canvas, weight, water resistance of canvas? We have a high side box trailer so transport is not an issue. Thanks very much. Great channel. Cheers Tim
Hi Tim, Thankyou for talking through your setup! Finding the right tent is an absolute adventure! As kids we had a huge canvas tent and man it just kept going I think it was us kids, not the weather that ended it’s life… seem to remember a sparkler incident… I do and will always have a deep respect and love for the canvas tents, though, when it comes to quick set up and pack, and also putting away a dry tent (even dew can be a problem for storing canvas) we can’t look past the aero fabric. We have nowhere to hang out a canvas tent if it is a bit damp so we kind of need to put it away as dry as possible. Let us know what you end up going with! Kindly, Candice
Good review. I actually went to Tentworld today and tried both of these models out in store. I’m 112kg and at 63yo need something comfortable for my back. The black wolf felt just that little bit more comfortable and I walked out with one. I didn’t take into account that it inflates a bit softer and can adjust it with the bag. But that is a bonus to me.
Hi Gary, excellent news! Trust that you have some excellent sleeps on it! Let us know how you go! Kindly, Candice
Good work mate, Turon Gates is a cracking site, my wife and I camped there pre-kids at Easter time - had to upgrade our sleeping bags after the first night. We’ve now got 3 kids and are off to Carnarvon Gorge in a few weeks. We’ve got a Zempire TL Pro, and have also bought a cheap Chinese Diesel Heater, hadn’t seen this video until tonight, but good to get some comfort that it’ll do the job and keep the wife and kids warm. Cheers
Fantastic!! Let us know how it went, always looking for new places to visit with the kids! I’m sure that diesel heater worked a treat!! Kindly, Candice
Another adventurous family like us! We love getting out and exploring new places! We live in the US (in Ohio), but recently got the opportunity to travel across the country to explore many states. We even got to go swimming in the snow! Probably my favorite memory. Camping is always fun though...kinda wish we had camped some places along the way. We just subscribed! Can't wait to see where you go next!
Swimming in the snow!!!! That sounds crazy and wonderful all at the same time! Enjoy your next trip and we recommend camping, such a beautiful way to experience the world. Where’s your favourite spot to be in the US?? Kindly, Candice
@@familyoffourinthegreatoutd1458 Yeah we are going to have to make a point to go camping again soon! I would say our favorite spot(s) in the us are Ohio, Colorado, & California....Ohio, because nothing beats home at the end of the day. Colorado because it is just beautiful and has lots to see and do, & California because our family is out there (plus Disneyland being there doesn't hurt either!).
All self-inflating mats should be stored uncompressed to preserve the foam.
Thanks for this 👍 yes if you have the space lying flat is a very good idea.
Great video mate, I found it informative and could see it for what it is, thank you!
Thanks Matthew! Have you had any experience with blow up versus the good ol’ faithful pillow?
Hi guys awesome videos Just wondering if you've got any other accessories you could recommend? Did you solve the lighting issues? I know they stock their own lights?
Hi Michael, do you mean general camping accessories? or for the mats specifically? We have a lighting set up now that we are pretty happy with and will be doing a video on that very shortly as well as one on camping fans (not so necessary for this time of year but certainly a big help in summer and even more so with kids). We love our diesel heater too which we’re heading out with this weekend! From James
Awesome review guys! Bought this recently and took the family out in Narrabeen (our local) campsite. Stood up to storms, sunshine and rain, couldn’t have been better. Thanks for the great and balanced review.
So glad that it performed for you! We haven’t been to Narrabeen we’ll put it on our list of places to enjoy!! Thankyou for sharing! Kindly, Candice
Great review. I used to have this tent, and loved it. The only issue I had was the weight. 50kg was hard to move around and took up a lot of space. I changed to the Zempire EVO TXL v.2 which is only 35kg. I find it a lot easier to transport and store.
There’s a better Blackwolf mat now. Hexatherm 3dx. Same thickness as the megamat 15 but cheaper.
it looked at it. it's 15cm high and more expensive
@@pattyli6873 incorrect. Cheaper than the megamat 15
@@gregdogg10 got it. megamat 15 is more expensive. hexatherm 3d and 3dx are different too. before I just looked at hexatherm 3D
@@pattyli6873 hexatherm 3d is 100mm, megamat 150 and hexatherm 3dx are 150mm. Hexatherm 3dx (latest model) is cheaper than megamat 150
@@gregdogg10 3d is good enough for me. thank you for your reply. I will pick blackwolf.
If that was my setup, i would flip the fly so the silver side is up and compare the temps. It does seem weird having the reflective side down. If anything, wont that keep the heat in the air space to some extent..
Excellent, thought, we might just give it a try and see if there’s any differences 👍 Have you tried this?
So helpful thanks. Have been weighing up between the 2.
So glad this was of help to you! Have you had a good experience? Kindly, Candice
Hi Vashti how are you?
Hey guys, I see you about 1 year into using the Zempire tent. Are you still loving it and do you think they are worth the price?
Hi Alice! We could not be happier with the Zempire TXL Pro, we are even considering grabbing the shelter to couple up to it. We’d definitely buy it again 👍 Where did you land? Kindly, Candice
Hi Guys, good on you for your videos. I've jost sold a couple of BacklWolf Turbo tents and wanted a Zempire Pro to reduce it to one larger tent, that is simple to set up. My short list is the Aero TXL or the Aerodome II Pro. Did you consider the Aerodome? Slightly more pegging with the Aerodome but I do like the separation of the bedrooms. However, I like the TXL for the linear layout, unlike Aerodome 'T' shape. The footprint for the TXL is, as you know, 4.6m W x 7.6m L, whereas the Aerodome is wider than long at 6.7m W x 5.9m L. I've two lads, 11 and 13, so they're getting bigger and I like to keep my distance... Just curious as to whether you looked at the Aerodome... Cheers Guys, keep on enjoying the bush...
Hi Charlie, Love hearing about your adventures! Where are you planning on taking the boys next? Our tent before the current TXL was a Blackwolf, so we empathise with the move! We briefly looked at the Aerodome T shape, and realised that most NSW campsites that are lined, NSW Parks and Private are around 8x6m so wouldn’t be able to guarantee that it would fit on a site (Ideally we don’t book anything below 10x6m, few exceptions, if we’re really keen I’ll look at a park map and request a site confirming the size of the tent and the absence of obstacles or slopes on the site). We did see the Aerodome setup at Lani’s Island in Foster (unlined and plenty of room) and it looked very spacious as you have mentioned. It suited the campsite because it had unlimited space and the group with them lounged in their front room and they also had not one, but two gazebos (at least one being the coupled Zempire Aerobase 3 Pro). PRO So in a spacious situation the setup would be very comfortable. CON May be more difficult to pitch on a variety of campsites. Why we chose the TXL: We needed a really intuitive quick set up (30min) before dinner, bath, bed. So the 5 panelled, four cornered, and 2 pegs down at the front and back meant only a 13min basic setup, before we could move onto any crucial particulars like making dinner and running the hot water for a bath. Then we’d come back to any pegs that were necessary (wind/weather/ect.) once the kids were down. In saying that I believe the Aerodome has the same amount of panels (middle 2 being pumped up at the same time) so it may have a similar setup time. The blackout sleeping pods are great for us we can separate the boys and still have a bedroom for us (TXL has 4 bedrooms, one that we have taken out and not used). We could use the middle room in the pod but we like the spacious middle section of the tent that we can see out of at night. The sleeping bays are the least used areas of the tent, because they are only used at night, so we like that they only take up a double bedsize of the tent each. Trust this is helpful! Hope to see you out there! Go well, Candice
Hey Guys - loving the videos. Just wondering how much space the tent takes up on a standard park site? Any chance of parking a trailer next to it? Cheers.
Hi Nathan, I tend to do all the booking for our trips. By general rule, we need at least an 8-10m long site and nothing less then 5m wide. The tent is roughly 7.5 by 4.5m so it does need some room. I won’t book anything under 8m because not all campsites have useable space (allowing for rise and fall in the ground or a cut corner). If I can see a map and ask for a certain spot I will. We will never forget driving into a spot and seeing half the spot is a hill!! So I try to call ahead and confirm the useable space. Trailers shouldn’t be a problem you can often find a spot either on the site or close to which will work. Campgrounds have to allow for the method which campers are coming. We do prefer to book non lined camping grounds so we can make our preferences. Though this often means no power which isn’t a problem for us. Good on you Nathan, hope your next trip is a dream!! Where are you off to? Kindly, Candice
Thanks, so useful. We have air mattresses for whole family but considering switching to SIM - never thought of 2 KS together as didn’t realise they could be coupled. Thanks
Hi Vashti! Yes, the Exped coupler for the singles is a game changer! We are really liking the versatility of having options. There will be times when just one of us heads out for a trip with the boys so to not have to take a huge bed for just one person makes sense for us. We are definitely planning and purchasing now for future setups! Where’s your favourite spot to camp? Love picking up ideas! Safe travels, Candice
Also just a heads up that if you do go down the 2 singles together route like we have, be aware as we mentioned that camping queen and actual queen size in beds is quite different if that makes a difference to you. While the 2 mats together make a proper queen sized bed (or very close to), double or queen sleeping bags will be narrower for the most part. For a bag that just sits on top of the mats or if you are zipping 2 singles together its probably fine. But if, like us, you have or wanted a double sleeping bag with a fitted sheet part under it to keep it in place around the mats, it is tricky to find one that is wide enough. We loved our outback comforter sleeping bag, and it was listed as a queen but it wasn't wide enough to fit properly around the 2 mats and that's why we ended up going with the Nemo bag. Hope that helps. James
Thanks for the valuable information! :) We’ve so far only dabbled with air mattresses previously but keen to try better options. So it is useful seeing what has worked for other people. I have a question - you both have the HexaTherm 3D singles, similar size and type of mattress to the Zempire king single you got for David. Any comparison thoughts? Currently I can buy the BlackWolf ones for A$27 less each. I doubt you’ve slept on the Zempire personally but does either feel better if they were the same price and you had to buy them now?
Thats a great question and I am actually going to do this test and comparison at the end of the week and I will post my thoughts in another video. They are very similar in many ways but im finding a few little differences but I will know more in a few days once I give it a good go. We originally went the BW mats because they were cheaper ($50 at the time). This time though I needed a mat and couldn't get another BW one in time which is why we got the Zempire one. I think you would be happy with either and particularly for us as we were buying 2 of them, the $100 we saved was significant going with the BW ones. Keep an eye out towards the end of the week for the comparison. James
Thanks for the video. I'm about to start researching sleeping options for my boys so this is helpful. I have an Evo TL tent and use a Monstamat double for my wife and I. My 2 boys (2y2m and 3y10m) on old cot mattresses which has worked well for a while including the 5 day trip we just got back from, but the cot mattresses take up so much room we need to find a better option. I've been thinking the monstarmats given we use one for the grown ups. It would be the same height as ours (we all sleep in the sleeping pod with grown ups in the middle and a kid on either side) so that would be a plus. Price is the only issue, and given we've had holes in our monstamat I'm not sure they'd be durable enough for the boys. Anyway, thanks again for the video. Love seeing what other families similar to ours are up to.
Hey Scott, Hope your trip was great! Where did you head to? Our kids are pretty similar in age, good time to camp! They love being outside. The darkened rooms in the TXLs are a game changer glad it’s working! Let us know how you go with your sleep setups. Safe travels! Candice
Thanks for the video. I'm actually looking at the Evo TXL... That aside, you said you went from the dbl high queen airbed to the self inflating mattress... Can I ask which have you found to better and for what reasons... Thanks😁
Hey, thanks for the question. Quite timely also as we have just shot a video about this but the short answer is that the self inflating mattress has been much better and much more comfortable for us anyway. If you were particularly adverse to getting down on the ground then it may not be for you but some of the reasons for this in our opinion are: 1) the foam is quieter if like me you move around a bit 2) less prone to air leaks 3) air mattresses are notorious for being quite cold in cold weather whereas the self inflatable one we have is insulated and so doesn’t have that problem 4) We used to get quite a lot of condensation forming under the double height air mattress between the tent floor and the mattress bottom, we haven’t had that happen with the self inflating mattress 5) our set up is 2 x self inflating mattresses coupled together side by side and this is wider than the double height air mattress which I like 6) The air mattress was a lot better space wise however to pump it up to the firmness I needed to not fall off the edge, I found it to be quite firm and uncomfortable so we were using a foam mattress as a topper which was enormous and so the overall set up is better for space than the double height air mattress with the foam topper. They are the main reasons. We did have it for a while and it was good but we do like the new set up a lot better.
@@familyoffourinthegreatoutd1458 thanks for the in depth reply... Most of your points are exactly what I was thinking, and trying to convince the missus😅... All to be reinforced by your latest video... Cheers, keep up the good work
Glad to be of help!! 😂 hope to see you out there!!
Nice!
It’s a great option!!
Great video you have made, I love these pro series tents, iv got the TL PRO as we don't have young kids to worry about and find it big enough for the two of us and plenty of room still if we do invite friends. For the $130 for the roof cover it is very well worth it, it definitely does cool the entire tent in our mid summer days, iv also got a rechargeable cordless fan which really does make it even more comfortable. I recently bought the pro series aerobase 3 to add to it, which is going to be a huge foot print of a camping spot lol, purely to not have the full kitchen and relaxing aera at the entrance of the tent under the standard awning. As for the lighting issues of where to hand, iv found the zempire megadome lights awesome, I have 4of them placed on the hanging loops inside and outside the tent, they supply heaps of light and are multi level lighting functioning. I'm just waiting for this endless lockdown in Sydney to end to get away and enjoy the outdoors again. Enjoy your camping guys 👍
Hey Chris!! Love hearing about people’s set up, the TL Pro is an awesome tent, add the aero base and you guys would be sitting like kings! Very comfortable place for cooking, relaxing for sure. We’ve loved our roof cover too, it makes a huge difference hey! The lighting situation is puzzling hopefully it’s better in the TL. We hang them from the connection points for the inner bedrooms. Where inside are you hanging them? Where will you be shooting to as soon as you can?? Let us know how you go! Kindly, Candice & James
@@familyoffourinthegreatoutd1458 hi guts and thank you for your reply. In the TL PRO there are hanging loops from the roof of the tent so I hang them off there. As for escaping after Locke, I think we will be heading to banksia Green camping grounds at myall lakes. It's really relaxed and so close to the beach for great fishing and still close to the small township if we want to get anything. It has a drop pit toilets which are always clean and don't smell like a dead animal lol. Happy camping to you all, and maybe we will catch you around somewhere
Hey Chris, Myall lakes sounds like a dream, love it up that way! We’ll have to check it out!! Love discovering new spots. Interesting to hear that between the TL and the TXL there’s a differing design! Good to know. See you around! Enjoy 🏕
we have the TXL Pro + roof + aero 3 Pro Shelter / connecter and recommend buying another 2 sides to fully close off the shelter from flies, moths etc at night, mesh allows cool air. have experienced back room collapses during strong wind but bounces back easy enough but also very happy with tent in NZ weather. good honest review.
Hey Richard! Glad you’re loving your txl pro! Also good to hear you’ve seen the tent bounce back after a strong wind. How long have you had yours? Any conditions that have had you worried, we’re struggling to find a challenge for this tent, we’ve camped in snow, heat and high rainfall but not torrential yet. Kindly, Candice & James
@@familyoffourinthegreatoutd1458 had our tent for 1 year now. have camped 3 times (due to covid) no problems at all. shelter takes strong wind with ease. Very impressed and look forward to go again when lockdown ends
I have to mention that I have tent springs and clips for every rope on the txl and have done that for every tent we've owned so even gale force wind is no problem as springs take the pressure off the tent, No torrential rain either but with UN spec and 10,000mm waterhead rating I don't think it is a problem, Glad you enjoy family camping in the TXL Pro. Kind Regards Richard + Hine
Hey Richard & Hine! Music to my ears!! We’ve yet to see a big rain fall, so glad that there’s someone has 👏🏼! Springs are an excellent idea, I suspect if we see a tough weather heading out way we’ll pull some out too! Trusting that you’ll be able to get out there soon and enjoy the great outdoors, we’ve really missed a campfire and a view that isn’t our four walls!!! Let us know how your first trip back goes! Hope it’s relaxing and adventurous!! Kindly, Candice & James
Great video guys, it's helping me decide on my next tent. We're a family of five and are using an imported Outwell Montana 6 that's about 4 years old, I'm looking for something easier to erect (air tubes) and with blackout bedrooms.
Hey Stephen! Yeah same journey, our high profile pole based tent crumbled on us in the wind and we just couldn’t buy one again. This one bounces back in high wind/rain. We spent a little more on this one, but we know we’re never gonna have to borrow someone else’s last minute again. If you’re looking for blackout, we got the roof cover too to really cut out the sun in those back rooms and the heat in summer. What kind of climates are you camping in?? Looking forward to hearing how you go!
Great video! You inspired me and I've just brought the TXL Pro, the Aerobase 3 Pro, the Pro link and the ground sheet and roof covers for both. Currently in lockdown in Sydney so can't test it out yet. Damn! What camp site did you film this video at?
Hey Tim!! You’re all set for some good times! That will be one excellent setup! Be sure to send us a pic! If you’re a Zempire lover you’ll also appreciate the ‘Zempire Camping’ facebook group we only just joined and it’s inspired four days! This was shot at our quick getaway spot with all the trimmings, Glenworth Valley on the Central Coast, horses, creek, paddocks, walking tracks, it’s literally got it all! We head to the quiet spots in the park which have less people. Have you camped before? I’m keen to hear how you go with it once you can get out! All the best, Candice and James
Man that logo at the back is the dumbest thing Zempire have done. It caught me out on my EVO TL as well, and I know there are a few others in the zempire camping facebook group that did the same. Oh and be aware that there are no links that join the aerobase 4 to the tents (I made this mistake with seeing an aerobase 4 on sale and buying it assuming I could get a link for it). You're after the aerobase 3 pro which is in the same material as your pro tent and can attach to the tent with the link.
Yeah it had me scratching my head for a while till I worked it out! Your right, I meant the 3 pro for the aerobase 🤦♂️ now that our friend has a regular aerobase 3, it will be epic to join them all up if we can get our hands on a 3 pro!
Kia ora from New Zealand. Just packed away the TXL Pro for the year. Ive got the roof and yes it does make a difference. Also had the separate groundsheet which extends out and gives flooring in the front area. This also left the floor of the tent dry when i packed it down. I had the Aerobase 3 connected to the front of the tent to complete the setup. Huge with oodles of room for the whole family. I agree with the lack of areas to hang lights. i had an led bar system but used it in the Aerobase as the poles provided a mounting platform. Otherwise i hung a couple of Zempire Megadomes from the hooks that are there. Great tent and good to see it getting some airtime across the ditch.
Hello from across the ditch! So great to hear your setup! TXL really is a game changer for families! Glad to hear you’ve had a great experience with it, the aerobase is something we’d love to use, and are looking into the budget to see if we can squeeze one out of the account!! Great thought to hang the LEDs from the shelter, yes that would work nicely. Did the shelter take long to setup? The Megadomes are a great light, I love how they glow in the dark when we aren’t wanting for light. We have since purchased the roof and are keen to use it. We were wondering about the groundsheet, did it pool water? We’re also keen to try this tent in high wind, have you had any exerperience there? Kindly, Candice and the fam. Don’t forget to subscribe 👍
Thanks for the video guys! This tent is at the top of my wish list so the unboxing and set up was great to see. Having some trouble tracking one down at the moment, zempire stock levels are a bit all over the shop apparently. Are you members of the zempire owners group over on facebook? Heaps of good tips over there and I'm sure a lot of members would enjoy your video. Cheers!
Thanks for the heads up, great to see a group forming on Facebook! Yeah COVIDS got stock low atm, took us many months to get our paws on ours! Glad it was helpful, big investmen, so thought this would be a good resource for someone looking to buy! Have a good one 👍
