My channel is a glimpse into my life. My topics are all over the place with no rhyme or reason. I may be repairing a Jeep or Jet Ski and then on the other side of the world the next week and scuba diving a local creek the following week. Some topics you may be very interested in and others... not so much, but that's ok. I enjoy staying busy and teaching my daughters to enjoy life and to be independent. Enjoying life to it's fullest is what's important. Take a chance, learn something new, and be kind to those around you. Simple directions for the road to happiness.
Gold panning on family trip to Colorado Ep 280
Mom and Dad want to beat the heat and get out of Oklahoma's 105 degree weather. So they have invited my sister and I to join them for a week at a VRBO log home in Colorado. Cyndi and I took this opportunity to try our hand at gold panning. While we are there, we go explore Zapata Falls and the Great Sand Dunes near Ft Garland, Colorado. My gold panning locations came from Kevin Singel's book, "Finding Gold in Colorado: Prospector's Edition".

Kayak hole repair Ep 279
Переглядів 8121 годину тому
A quick video on how to repair a kayak that has been sliced open. Repairing holes in kayaks can be a simple matter. I've had holes in kayaks because someone sat it too close to a campfire and simply because the kayak fell over and landed on something sharp. In this case, a kayak stored vertically fell onto a steel fence T post and slice the bottom completely through.

Alexis and Shay take The Oasis up the creek do some fishing and stay the night. Other than discovering a serious battery bank issue, they had a great time.

How did you find places that you were able to pan without worrying about being on restricted property or on someone’s claim? You mentioned a book in the video… Always happy when I see you’ve posted again
Thank you. Yes. I didn't want to get in a jam and accidently claim jump. After joining a FB page for Colorado Gold Prospecting, it was suggested that I purchase one of Kevin Singel's books. Specifically, I purchased "Finding Gold in Colorado: Prospector's Edition. Kevin went through all the research in finding specific tracks of land that can NOT be claimed. The reasons they can not be claimed varies, but a lot of it was because of illegal or dangerous practices and the government took the land back. Anyways, Kevin gives GPS coordinates to the exact locations so you don't end up crossing the law or a land owner.
What nice house boat you have way cool
Thanks. With a few modifications I believe it's going to be exactly what I needed.
You know I really like your household it's really cool
Thanks. I'm enjoying it a LOT.
Remember where you parked
Always sound advice.
Hope that gen was secured
Great job 👏
Glad you enjoyed their video.

New subscriber, love the house boat. Regards JW
Thank you very much. Glad you like the houseboat. I'll have the houseboat adventures posted pretty regularly.
What caused your straps to break?
It was more than likely stresses on the straps. I drove from Cocoa Beach to nearly Oklahoma City. That long distance can stretch material and loosen straps. it's always a good idea to check those straps at every single gas / food stop.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 scary business right there. Thank you for headsup.
Very informative, thank you.
Glad you got something out of it.
What a beautiful young lady sorry for your lost mat rip
Just an FYI as a Hobie TI owner I'm sure you have seen a lot of people using spine boards over the AKAs and they are made from polyethylene just like the kayaks. When I need a patch I just cut some off of the spine board and soldering iron on low. It works.
Great idea. I was literally given a kayak today that I repaired for a family member many years ago. I used some plastic from those food grade blue barrels. They seem to hold up very well against UV rays. The color wasn't a match, but still, the repair was solid and it never leaked.
Get a good spotlight so you can see how close to shore you are lol
On most Garmin machines if you tap the power button it should bring up the brightness n then it's arrows up or down.....ok god bless
Where is this ? Looks beautiful.
This was on Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma.
Great job, girls! Looks like a very good start!
I've got a 25' sailboat. I have the typical running lights that's 12 volt plus for sitting at anchor I have managed to get oil lamps that's starboard and port colored so when at anchor I'll light those to save battery. Also I got a solar powered garden/sidewalk light mounted on the mast as an anchor light. Best thing about going with the solar is they don't drain your battery and if you dock your boat at the lake it's easy to tell which one is yours. I also thought about getting solar Christmas lights to hoist up the cables at night for added effect. Nice boat by the way 😊
I've been eying some brass nav lights that have the vintage look. I think it would look great on the houseboat. What type of 25 foot sailboat do you have? I've got a Catalina 22 in the barn sanded down that I'm about to paint.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 MacGregor. I've spent a few nights on it years ago. My wife asked why I got it and I said because I know nothing about them We took sailing lessons and the instructor asked if we sailed before and when we said no he was shocked. He said most students wasn't this good with the tiller. My boat needs bottom paint as well. I did it once myself and it wasn't fun. Had to leave it trailered because I didn't have any way of getting it off the trailer
Congratulations on your launch! Cool boat, I just discovered your channel and I am looking forward to seeing your other videos as well. Thank you for sharing your adventure!
Thank you very much. Hope you enjoy the channel, I know my videos cover a LOT of different subjects, lol.
Love your boat. Mine is a little higher at the bow, so I found a steep embankment is better, because I can step directly off the bow. Then I don't have to jump down and climb up. 😊
Roy came up with a great idea. After I get the boat's battery bank changed out I'm going to add a drop down step at the bow. This will help considerably on the transition between beach and the deck. You're right, That's a big step and I'm not getting any younger.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 I actually considered using an extension ladder mounted underneath, between the pontoons as a gang plank. Just top the part that extends with aluminum diamond plate. You could run a pulley system to extend and retract by hand or with an ATV 12v winch. You can anchor a few feet away from the shore if its rocky, or rough water, then extend the gang plank to the shore. I'm probably overthinking it. 🤔
@@greghackstaff217 I've got a telescoping ladder at the stern. I'm also going to be looking at something that will allow my dog to come aboard while at anchor without me grabbing her by the scruff of the neck. I've got some head scratching to do myself.
Where did you get this boat
I purchased it from the daughter of the builder. She was in the mountains of Arkansas.
Love it dude!
Thanks, I love it too. Just got off the lake after a two day camping trip.
Looking forward to our summer- to do an overnighter… great video mate
Thank you.
One thing I used to like to do when I put my boat in the water was to unplug the boat trailer lights keeps from blowing any bulbs
My dad has told me this repeatedly. Just can't seem to remember it. lol
Way to go Pops. Allowing them to take out the family boat. THey did a great job too.
Thanks. Looks like they handled it all well despite a few set backs. I'm going out tomorrow for an overnighter to test the battery bank situation after having removed the offending dead battery.
Very cool houseboat. The girls did outstanding handling the vessel and slaying the fish. Making memories 👍👏🇺🇸🚜
Thank you. I was very pleased how they did myself. The Oasis handles like a dream.
What was the best combo ever? Saw the watermelon but couldn’t see the spice.
They were using something call Tajin. They love throwing that stuff all over the watermelon.
FANTASTIC!!👌
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video.
WOOOOOAAA!! What is that...Flying Sardines?.. SALUDOS FROM PANAMA.
Hello in Panama. I was there once and loved it. Just a short stay, but it was great.
Enjoyed the video thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm ready for the triple digit temps to go away to I can get out there more.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 I agree, it looks like the temps are dropping this weekend so I'm headed to Eufaula this Thursday to do a little boondocking in the houseboat.
@@ew1421 Awesome. Have a great trip. I'll be taking mine out on Thunderbird, but only because I need to sort out the battery issue and make sure the one battery is enough to get me or the girls through a night. Especially if they plan on a movie night with the TV and stuff. If it's not, then I'm going to bite the bullet and go Lithium.
Seems like a good time was had by all can't beat that
It was a good time. Always good when time is spent with the family.
They never complained, just overcame and made a great time of it. Btw, Nice boat!
Thanks. They did well, even if a few things weren't going their way.
🌴 well the gal’s had a good time and that’s what the boat was made for , 🤔what’s up with the power system that they lost power. Did they have the generator to hookup to ? Get ya a couple telescopic fish’n rods to tuck away on board in case on of those swamp monsters breaks a rod 😂 a good time on the water 👍🏼( and she did a great job getting on the trailer ) 🫣
Ok. Without mansplaining as I'm accused of regularly by my daughters. I recently bought the houseboat and its been out in the sun with the solar panels charging the battery bank regularly and no issue camping over night. Then I had a shed built for The Oasis four days before the girls went out in it. Turns out one marine 800 amp batteries was allowed to go completely dry which caused a constant drain on the second marine battery. So four days out of the sun with no solar and both batteries were nearly drained at the out start of the girls trip. I've removed the dead battery and the second in now holding a consistent 12 volts. Now it's time for me to take it out and see how it holds up to and all night camping trip. As far as a generator, excellent idea, and I recently purchased one. I Googled the solar charge controller and it is not designed to receive voltage from the generator. So I get to wire up a special charger from the 30amp RV plug to the battery bank. telescopic poles stashed away for emergencies is also a great idea that I hadn't thought of. Thanks for that idea. I'm working through all the kinks. LOL
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 🌴🤔Hummm, so the solar controller won’t except the generator charge , but there’s a 110 plug in that you could use a regular battery charger to charge your battery bank ? Maybe , ya didn’t see any solar panels on the shots from the vid , but lessons learned , have y’all great look’n boat 👍🏼
@@davescheer5038 Yes. The charge controller is a very basic one that was part of a solar panel kit that was purchased online by the builder. I can use one of the 110 volt plugs in the galley with a battery charger, but that would require stretching the cord across the hallway. Doable and in a pinch a great idea to get out of a mess now that I've identified the problem. There isn't a 110 plug in the electrical closet where the battery bank is, but I'm about to fix that. lol. We just recently discovered the power issues, so I've got some work to do to make it right. Any suggestions are always appreciated.
Southern Girls & Country Music
They are that and they do like their country music.
What an awesome video it looks like the girls really had a great time and your daughter can actually run that boat very well
Thank you. She did very well, especially considering This was only her second time to set foot on the boat.
Did you build your house boat? I think I have seen this diy plan for this boat. Thanks for the video
While I've built many houses, I didn't build the houseboat. This is a Roy Shreyer design with some modifications. This one is basically a limo version coming in at just over 21 feet instead of 17. The craftsman that built this vessel is from Indiana and it takes approximately 600 hours to complete the build. I've learned we are not promised tomorrow and decided I'd rather have 600 hours out on the water with my daughters.
Does this gentleman that builds these have a website or link to his projects? By the way love the concept!
@@stewartp6563 I don't believe he does. At least not that I know of.
Putting in my 2 weeks to start my YouTubing career
Get some rails on that boat! Sending two girls out on a boat by themselves?! What are you thinking! How would y'all feel, having a hook in your mouth? Stop complaining about the gnats! That's their home, not yours! Those plastic jugs are likely leaching toxic chemicals into the water. You deserve to eat toxic fish! That poor fish flopping around on the floor! Have you no respect for it's comfort? Aside from how gross that is to have fish slime all over the floor of your living space! You need to turn the fire down on the eggs. I could hear it popping and getting too hot. I think I covered most of the obvious Karen Comments. I'm sure if I missed anything, someone will cover it for me. Great video of my beautiful niece and her brave friend! Looks like y'all had a great adventure!
LOL.
Hater 🙄
Why launch in the dark?
Lol. Because Alexis' friend didn't get off work until late in the evening, later than what she originally thought she would be getting off. The original plan was to launch two hours before dark, but life has a way of changing plans. The girls were still determined to have a go at it.
Because it’s stolen
@@RolandC89😂😂😂😂👀
@@RolandC89 If I don't get the title for it soon, it's certainly going to look stolen. Ha.
Update: I got the registration papers for it today with new Oklahoma numbers.
That was awsome! Dianne loved all the fish the girls caught! Wow, that was a lot of bugs! Be careful if you use any bug sprays with Deet in them! It will "decay" Lexan windows! We are very careful spraying ourselvs! I was also impressed how well they maneuvered the boat onto the trailer! Great video! AllthebestRoy
Thanks Roy. I'm glad you and your wife got a kick out of the video. I had no idea about the Deet on Lexan. I'll take care when using the stuff.

Nice job 👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
I sure like your boat, did you build it
Thank you. While I've built many things to include my current log home, I wrote a check for this houseboat. The craftsman that built it lives in Indiana.
I love the boat! I'd love to find one like it. I also love the fact you kept your error on the boat ramp in. We all make mistakes! Showing them keeps us human!
Thanks. I think we are going to really enjoy the little houseboat.
That’s really nice.
Thank you. I'm glad you like it.
It looks like the boat needs railing or knee-wall along the front & rear decks. Do you feel the need for them, or is it a non-issue?
It's been a non-issue. I don't believe I've seen any of the Dianne's Rose designs with rails.
Great to see the girls having so much fun
Thank you. I suspect the girls will take it out more, especially as they get more comfortable with it.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 I envy you, my kids gave gone the opposite way, less and kes interested in boats, the older they get
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Sometimes they circle back around, just takes some time. Wishing the best for you all.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 yeah, I expect they will 🤞
***Teachin' em right pop!!***
Thanks. I've been teaching my daughters since they were very little, so they have the confidence to try stuff that might seems difficult.
Back the trailer into the water . While standing on the trailer push the boat back while holding on to a roap attached to the bow of the boat everyone in Louisiana knows that
Yes. That's what I do when I'm by myself and there is no pier to secure the vessel to. But in this case our boat ramps all have short piers, so it's best to just get in the houseboat and bring it to the pier and out of the way of the boat ramp.
I've been wanting to dive/treasure hunt Spavinaw creek for awhile, just haven't managed to get around to it yet. Upstream from that bridge maybe a half a mile is another rope swing into a pretty deep hole, or there was last year.
It's certainly on my list. I've got a couple of adventures scheduled then I'm going to go check it out. I've heard my Dad talk about this place since I was a child. It was fun going and exploring it with my daughter.
What a nice boat
Thank you. I'm really enjoying it.
Nice video. Great boat. That RV+ is what I've been preaching about for years. Almost a "tiny" house on wheels. Good Luck with your adventures. $$$?
Thank you very much. Glad you are enjoying the videos. It is very nearly a tiny house.
