The Mark Knopfler interview at his award-winning British Grove Studios in west London.
He studied Mississippi John Hurt or Elizebeth Cotton finger style because his example was Freight Train. John was 3 fingers, Elizebeth was 2.
Genius!
Maravilhoso ❤
You're superb splendid Mark!!..pure smooth wonderful voice..soo delightful you and guitar sharing the stage.. i love you !! ❤
What a precious gift Mark is to this world.
I love everything about Mark. His writing, his storytelling, his compositions, his otherworldly guitar playing, and his wonderful sense of humor. He is exceptional and multi-talented. He truly is a gift to this world.
Is there a song he is mimicking @ 5:15?
I think it's a song called "I used to could". It doesn't sound exactly the same but has the same blues shuffle Mark's playing here
My brother interviewed Mark Knopfler and said he was the nicest guy he ever interviewed. If I were Knopfler, I fear I wouldn't be a nice guy. If I had been an international superstar since the 70s, had a gazillion dollars and was a world class musician, I'd probably be telling EVERYONE...loudly. Think Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack loud. Think drunk Homer Simpson loud. Respect Mark.
He should start a band!!
He should start a band!!!!
been playing for 40something years and never used a pick
I love his finger pickin. That sets him apart from strummers. Hes a class act all the way
top
I just love Mark’s wicked musical sense of humour, poignant but hilarious at the same time.😂 The incredible diversity of his songs and music are without parallel. I❤MK
I love his intellectual approach.and he can express it so Elegantly ,with his Sense of humor 🤣 so special ❤🌬❌️thanks for sharing this interview ❤
" No, no, people don't need to throw anything at all. "
💙
Love You...❤🔥💙
I'm just amazed Mark owns a pick.
A lesson from the Best, thank you Mark.
Finger picking and hybrids picking is the way to be.
I’m the best guitarist in the world - I choose not to show anybody .
I've never seen an artist make something so difficult look so easy.
Legend
Superb! What a beautiful story. “Dancing with fear in our hearts,” oh my!!!!
A true scotsman!!!
Atlantis ❤
butter ball >? try listening to steve ferguson hes from louisville ky and was in the group nrbq clapton ans hendrix
its strnage how any stephen foster song seems to lay well and i can play the melodies instantly !!! how about my old kentucky home love to hear mark try that
its so funny how the old music folk sourcebook credits players like mosie rader or merle travis with this style but ,,everyone plays it diffrently its an alternating pattern then stick with it for 10 more years and when you get tipped its amazing
i use my open c i found my best voice on guitar with c g c g c e low to high there are 4 songs on you tube of mine in this tuning one more summers thursday ,julia, other ways to love, and annabelle on you tube scott furlong
folk sorcebook if you play the notes on the piano as on the guiutar it inst musical
his improv lines on his own solos is incredible i wonder if eric could cop marks style>? it would surprise alot [people how well clapton cvan copy but he mixes other blues guys licks together interestin how marks style is so within him !!
Tattoos, they are a statement for most of us.
Yes play that RED Guitar 🎸
Thank you so much for taking your time and explaining it well KGB
I have seen Mark live in concert five times. He wrote the soundtrack of my life, and the older he gets, the closer his music comes to my heart. Legend.
It is magical how some of the most fascinating melodies just leap out of the instrument just as he is discussing the weather and the coffee.
The gift isn't having the talent. The gift is having a desire to play/get better.
Some have natural aptitude as well... which helps :)
Watch one of Mark's inspirations. Some say quite possibly the most skilled guitar player to ever live, Blind Gary Davis. A mind blowing genius who sometimes didn't know what key he was in as he once said to virtuoso, Roy Book Binder, "I don't know, I'm just all over the place." He's so good it all made sense. ua-cam.com/video/3EAfYCMviwo/v-deo.html
His riffs here sound like a John Prine song, and it’s beautiful.
Naked and great!
He anchors down. Like all the greats
I think mark should teach music as a subject.
Wonderful interview, wonderful inserts from concerts from various periods of music creation. Mark Knopfler, the man I adore!!! ❤🎸❤
A wonderful man and artist who totally deserves our love and attention. I am really proud that his music is my choice in every way! I love Mark! 🤗🙋♀️🍀
I listen and listen to this wonderful man!! I admire his love for what he creates! A fantastic man and artist. ❤🎸❤🎧🙋♀️
