      As we said in the video we like trying new things so we can learn. But we try not to do to much that could harm a hive. Not sure if you asking but if you are, making a queen in winter in most areas doesn't work because there are no drones available to mate with her. That is unless you are in warmer climate where the bees don't ever really shut down for the winter. That's just me saying that based on my limited experience. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting.

      Thank you for your comment. This is some good advise for the bees as well as humans. We leave honey the hives but some are weaker and there isn't much weight. So that's the only reason we do extra feeding for a short time or during a dearth. Hope you have a blessed day and please tell other bee keepers about our page we would love to hear their comments based on their beekeeping experience's.

    Hey, i am a preoffesional beekeeper from Germany and what u have just done might generally be a good idea in terms of feeding your bees and providing extra protein and vitamins but has one big problem: you propably dont know this but if u heat honey, sugar or other produkts that contain fructose to over 21 degrees Celsius parts of the suggar are gonna be dekompositioning into Hydroxymethylfurfural (short hmf). Hmf is not toxic for humans thats why it is irellevant if u eat it but it is highly toxic to bees. You also propably dont have this in the US but in Germany honey can have a max concentration of 40mg per Kilogramm of Hmf thats why cold conditions for storage are crucial. If the value exceed these 40mg it is no longer Honey and ha to be thrown away or sold as baking Honey.( this almost never happens) By heating the suggar mixture up to such high temperaturen as u did in your Video u skyrocket the Hmf concentration. This leads to a high casualty rate amongs the bees which is fine in summer because of the high brood activity but not in Winter where u just shred through your colonies. As u can immagine seeing you do this filled me with absolute terror So pls dont do that ever again. A way that is way safer and healthier for the bees is if u make suggardough. This is basicly just powder suggar and honey that gets mixed till it has the concistency of playdough. In this u can add whatever u like and u can store it without freezing it just in a bucket. If u have anymore questions feel free to ask me.

    I do this the exact same way, only with a much lighter coating. In my experience, filling the foundation cups causes some hives to build wonky comb on top of the extra thick wax. I have learned this year to never buy cheap foundations… I’ve spent so much time and energy pulling hundreds of frames, scraping wonky comb, and re-waxing. Had to buy more wax at one point as well. But, i keep almost 100% of the wax to give back to the bees

      Yes we've heard of places doing that. During spring and up until the bees stop getting on the white clover we get in our yard we only mow where things aren't flowering in the grass. It look funny but it' only in the back yard. Hopefully it helps the pollinators a little bit. Thanks for watching

If I were 🐝 I’d rather a giant person usually leave us 🐝 alone as much as possible…I think 🐝 🐝cause they are a part of me.. I could spend a day in front of a mellow hive and 🐝 totally entertained. Curious how it works for you . Almost pulled the trigger on a ross round kit but changed my mind.

    • @SolitudeAcres
      @SolitudeAcres 7 місяців тому

      I should have went I to more detail on how it works. Maybe we can do a video on that once see how the bees do with it. As I said in the video we like trying new things, I believe it's the best way to learn how to become a better bee keeper. So basically how it works is you put wax foundation between the split plastic frames. The frames have a plastic ring in side. Once the bees fill with comb and honey you pull the frames out of the box. Separate the split frames to expose the comb and ring. Pull that out and you put caps on each side of the ring and you have a nice little package of round comb. I think it would sell well or make a good gift. Better Bee has a nice video on their UA-cam page that shows the process. ua-cam.com/video/CyM0eavQz-E/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared At this point the only downside I see is you have to purchase the rings and covers from Ross. But they are pretty inexpensive so it doesn't add much to your cost to make the comb. Like I said we will do an update video as we progress through the honey flow and pulling the box to show it worked for us. Thank you for watching and please share with your friends and fellow bee keepers. God Bless.
