Having retired after 58 years of machine shop experience, starting with CNC in the 60's up until the 2020's, I can say this is the fastest thing I've ever seen. This program has been tweaked to the limit. There is no wasted time cutting air. The part is indexing and the tool is moving into position at the same time with almost no clearance. The first few parts took a LOT longer than this demonstration. I have seen a lot of wrecks in my career; this machine has the potential to make some spectacular wrecks.

Okay, this answers the question I had about the 5AX and completely rebalances the equation. This... this is now almost good enough to be the first machine to acquire for a startup. You get a little turning capability, you can hit five sides in one op, and interpolate 5 axis moves. And, of course, insane speed. I do believe the utility of a regular VMC wins out, but would definitely look at this as the second machine.

Can you do a demonstration on machining steel? Especially hardened steel.

1:33 is there any reason why the part rotation has to be reversed? The tool could be rotated 180 degrees and start boring the I.D. without the rotation switching directions. Faster and easier on the machine.

your finished part is not the same part you were making. not only did you not chamfer the part, it doesnt have the marks on it from the hard jaws. nor is your 2nd operation in-line with your 1st.
