I am sure Bob is smiling down and yelling AWW HAWWW!
WHERE did you find a working original RCA 44 those mics are like finding the proverbial "Needle in a Haystack!"
#3 for me, for sure...I bet it is the Aussie one lol
no.1 is the nicest sounding one
They all sound fine to me. But what would each violin sound like years later ?
Clarity of tone is amazing.
Came here looking for a single violin - string section VST heh
Brilliant. I hate when they send me one violin overdubbed multiple times, it skins horrible. This is much better and closer to how it should sound, but not realistic at all.
My opinion 3 12 Sidney best tone
Beautiful arrangement and performance. My favourite order is 4 > 2 > 1 > 3. But in fact all 4 sources are very usable. Thank you for sharing. Lovely comparison.
This guy VILOINS
Love, love seeing content like this! :D
tend to think number one is German made. quite old rich sound and I like the Finnish so number one is my all round choice
I like number one. they all sound good. I like the Finnish of number one and the sound of number one
that is NOT a KM54
Sorry, it's a KM54a.
@@IanCooperViolinist no, its not. its a km64. its rebuilt from neumann using old 54bodies but use new kk64 capsule, sounds basically like a km84.
the nickel capsule from a real km54 would have been very interesting for you. now you have basically 2 km84 in your test.
You ROCK
Love this one. Father Bach would be so proud. This is true improvisation Well done chaps
All the ribbons were really good in their own way. I can hear each one of the ribbons being perfectly suited for specific moods. In this case, I think the 441 is perfectly usable. The KM84 is good for more brightness. The 87 was not very flattering. And the Skunk is the winner...at least that's the one I would go with.
Definatly number one! It had lusher G and way mellow low end. No question it had deeper guts. Really enjoyed! Thanks!😅
I honestly can't hear any difference. If you did just short little excerpt and then compared the different mics. But even so, if I can't hear it in the full mix. Not really a difference concerned with.
number 1 is german, number 2 australian and number 3 is china
The entry music sounds really wonderfull❤ from 0:15 time in video
Violin no. 3
happy to come across your video. I'm also violinist and I operate as you do here, whenever Imrecord orchetra ensemble on my productions. Yes true: ribbons are really better for violins, viola and cello. Way less harsh and they get less "small noises" about the hairs of the arc on the strings. Thanks for this video ❤
U87 👍👍👍👍👍
i liked # 1 the best. all sounded fine though.
man, what a reel! interesting, informative, extremely well made. thank you so much for your work. the rca solo didn't tickle my particular fancy, but man in the mix it really fits nicely. the u87 on the other hand has this unbevlievable natural sound to it when listening solo, but in the mix it shows too much of it. very interesting how these mics behave in different scenarios. and it shows how important the selection is when choosing a microphone. once again, thank you for this great video!
You done lost your mind. If I'm gonna buy 10 violins, I midas just get 10 violinist.
Can we stop for a sec and appreciate this man's ability to swap violins so fast and immediately play in a pace you can actually compare! Wow!
As Lay listeners, all three are equally good
Would you please let me know what's the name of the first piece? (00:00 to 00:25)
Magnificent!
No.2 & 3
What preamp setup are you using on the reslo? I picked one up after watching this video as an option for recording violin.
AEA TRP2
Thank you for this, I absolutely loved this experiment!! Quick question... (Since you already have the recording of 10 different violins) - if we go back to the copying of one track (10X) and fiddle around with the EQ of each of the copies, therefore artificially changing the timbre of each track (each violin) -- would that work? Just wondering what you think.
The Skunk does it on the string section!
They're all made in China.
The skunk seems to love strings!! Also the Reslo is fantastic.
loved it
I use the same violin, but play multiple times and in different positions around the mic. I find that works pretty well. Of course, if I had 10 violins, that would be even better. Very cool video! Thank you!
Wow the Skunk give's it another dimension !
Amazing playing bro. I definitely learned a lot from this one. 🙏🏻
The SKUNK! What are some other mics that may compare to the SKUNK.....if any
Easily the no.2 SKUNK!
Epic a little odd but it works out
Pro Tip: Never play open strings unless for a specific open-string effect/sound (or in fast passages). Additional Pro Tip: Playing the same passage on different strings and in different positions will create different tonal sounds. Won't work for 10 violins but if you need doubles or triples and only have one violin, this will do just fine. Professional violinists spend $15K+ on their individual instruments (and that's the very low end of the spectrum) so if a studio says they have 10 violins, they're 100% crap violins and you should probably look at hiring professional session musicians instead.
What is the solution to a problem phase when i riccording with one violin ??
Try to play the same notes on different strings and positions, move the microphone, change its angle relative to you, experiment with different bows, different rooms, etc
