You just saved my day, old but gold video. Thanks champ
I usually brush off the top of the tank and around the carburetor to make sure nothing falls in it. So it's easier to clean and maintain before putting the thing back together with new parts.
Thanks for this well done video and much to my pleasant surprise, it runs again! 😊
Thanks for the video. Got mine working again.
Yes we do love our fingers. Great video.
Quite a few years ago a good mate of mine found one of these in someones street side hard rubbish and gave it to me mainly because I kept nicking his! No idea how old it is. Another old mate serviced it and got it running. Since then, we’ve move to a bigger property. Recently it started to run a bit rough and stalling but I’m too sentimental to replace it! Thanks to your videos I’ve had a crack at servicing it myself and it is now running like a dream and better than when I first got it! Quite easy when you’ve got clear instructions! Thanks! Still plenty of years left in the old girl!
Very interesting
Thanks for this great tutorial!
What about changing primer ball?
what would make my mower rev up and down on normal cutting would it be the diaphragm
Good video. The only thing I noticed is you didn't oil your filter???
My filter screw does NOT tighten down any more. Vibrates loose so filter wobbles and is not efficient. Is it missing something? Does it fit/screw into a gromet because the screw treads are NOT damaged but just looking into the cup the screw doesn't catch any corresponding threads to seat & hold screw in place.. Do I put some loctite goop in the hole a create new threads?
I have problem with primer when i push then they dont return, why? Its gasket ?
I have an old lawnmower from briggs and stration and it was missing the diaphram alltogether, we were about to scrap it so i trought "fuck it" and i bodged in a balloon with hot glue and that shit has been working for the past 2 weeks 😅😅
You clean the air filter in old fuel? Wouldn't that make it dirty?
What a weird carb... no bowl, float, pin, made of plastic ...
Nicely done. Much appreciated and keep up the good work!
Great video
Is there an alternative to carbon spray I can use using household items?
This is my first time at doing anything mechanical. As a result of watching your video a few times (3) I got a kit, cleaned the fuel tank (old fuel was syrup) cleaned carbi, new gasket new plug chnaged oil.......started first pull. woohoo. now onto the whipper snipper.
Youve given me the confidence to service my lawn mower. Never done engines before. Ill get the parts needed including new primer bulb, governor spring that's broken and carb diaphragm plus cleaner. Then for the tricky bit...
Well played yo! Learned a ton about my free B&S and got running clean and fun now, thanks to you:) Cheers!!
Hei, from Latvia 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻Thanks,Nice video & Briggs & Stratton! 👍
I have never worked on this type of carb, thank you so much for showing the step by step!!
What kind of carb is that eh! No bowl (gas tank is the bowl), no float you can see, no pin, no jets... weird ass thing, built into the gas tank... lol
Thank you for the excellent video. I have successfully followed your instructions to service my Mountfield SP470. One problem I still have is that the primer bulb gets sucked in after about 5 mins of running and the engine cuts out. If I pull the bulb back out and prime again, the engine starts and runs again for another 5 mins before repeating the cut out. any ideas what the problem could be? I have tried loosening the fuel cap in case that is the problem but that doesn't help.
Excellent- so easy to follow. Cheers 👍👍
Can the air fuel mix be tuned. My mower is running so rich.
My neighbour had no place to put the law mover so he asked me to store at my place and I can use it too.... It is a BRIGGS & STRTON AND it always started at first pull ...winter come and we only used once a month But to make it start I had to put a bit of petrol in the spark plug hole of course I don't like to that all the time.... I dicided to clean the carburettor and put it back m ... the primary worked and it started after a few pulls But it stays on the high rev all the time ....I should point out that the liver that you disconnected the springs is short and it is easy to reconnect the tank rather mine has a long connection rod that to the springs connection little plate sems to be that on this kind of tank only has a little spring on the others I have seen two one bigger then the small one and they connect together....Well hope anyone can understand my problem and can give me an advise what to to make it start ......Thank you
Great video!

Got a new carb and put it on but still will not start.??
Is the blade balanced?
What about cleaning the jet? Did I miss something?
THANKS SO MUCH for creating this carburetor cleaning tutorial! My mower started surging real bad after running out of gas during operation (I presume some dirt found its way into the carb) and I was stumped. I looked at other videos and they appeared complex. Your video had my EXACT engine and explained everything perfectly, and my mower's back in top shape. Thank you! No more surging! You are a STAR!!!
Thanks buddy ¦-)
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Thanks! Now I needn’t buy a new lawn mower 😊
I take the carb off and apart and use a garden hose to clean out all the ports and tank. Clean the diaphragm and gasket and rub a little oil on them. Blow dry with a hair dryer. Reassemble and cut some grass. Works every time unless the diaphragm is to far gone.
If it still doesn't run right after replacing the diaphragm, try using 2 gaskets with the diaphragm sandwiched between them. That's what finally worked for me. I saw this trick here: ua-cam.com/video/8lyJka9XU58/v-deo.html
Dont know what i did wrong but mine is running too fast now 😂
Please help 😅
Hi I just want to ask if you know where I can get some classic front wheel with all the bits thank you for your time
Hi I’ve woke up and my primer button doesn’t prime any petrol anymore it’s jsut doing nothing when I push down what could be the problem ?
El mejor vídeo the best video
This is EXACTLY what I needed! My little Briggs and Stratton push mower is running beautifully now, and I know NOTHING about small engine maintenance (but now want to learn more...)
Thanks. Could not have fixed my mower without the likes of you. I watched a load of UA-cam videos on these carbs 'running too rich', 'lumpy throttle control', sooting up spark plug, 'fuel leaking', 'not sucking up fuel unless tank more than half full', 'primer bulb not sucking fuel' etc. My mower was doing all of these things. I started off cleaning the carb with carb spray and changing the diaphragm and gasket for a non genuine version off ebay. This may have made it a little worse. Making a sandwich with the diaphragm between two gaskets made minimal difference. The problem was these plastic carbs are prone to distorting with heat and time making the surface that contacts the gasket uneven. I tried flattening it a bit with a sharpening stone and that did not help. Finally using the carburettor replacement fixed all the problems. If your carburettor is distorted get a Briggs and Stratton genuine replacement. They are not expensive
co za niechluj! oczyściłby tą kosiarkę przed rozbieraniem.
My apologies that I haven’t replied to any comments after making these videos I lost my log in details but thx. You all for your great comments love and peace david 😃👍👍👍
I'm gonna buy the gaskets and let you know how all goes. Thanks for teaching. Regards from Bs. As.
Great video mate and thanks. What size are the 2 sockets you used to take the carb off the mower? Also, can you tell me what size of spanner I will need to remove the blade? Thanks.
You didn't touch the primer bulb. It's a common reason why mowers wont start. Isn't that part of the service?
