White Christmas Song by Bing Crosby with a picture slideshow of snowy scenes. Thank you Ruth! amazing work! I went to Spittal School, and lived in Treffgarne, I miss it and love it, and now you have educated me, I had no idea Spittal came from the word Hospital but now it makes sense! I wish I could travel back in time (obviously avoiding the bullies)

    The following addition information was sent to me - 'What a lovely and informative picture tour of Treffgarne . About three minutes into the film there is a delightful piece about Treffgarne Mountain, our sheep and ponies are looking good! You make mention of the three boulders in our 20 acre field, bought in 1986 which we affectionately know as "Victoria Park"-these three boulders were placed in the field in the interests of animal husbandry in 2000. The reason unfortunately is nothing to do with any magical or spiritual aura of the mountain but merely for our sheep to "have a scratch" - relieving themselves against the stones prevents them rolling onto their backs, which leaves them prone to pecking by crows. Hope you don't mind me mentioning this, it will avoid confusion should the stones need to be moved in the future-thank you.'

    Мне в своё время очень понравилось данное стихотворение и я его перевёл. Six years ago I met and translated from English into Russian this wonderful poem by Mr.Davies William Henry Davies Leisure What is this life, if full of care, We have no time to stand and stare! No time to stand beneath the boughs, And stare as long as sheep and cows. No time to see, when woods we pass. Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see in broad daylight Streams full of stars like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty’s glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare © Copyright Valentin Savin

    In Japan the song (poem ) has been adapted by a musician & poet and set to a different touching tune, and is popularly sung on occasions of grief & sadness---the title (translated into English) could just be "A Thousand Winds" or the like. *I understand this tune (as sung here by Katherine Jenkins) is originally Irish (that is, if I'm right, it's a piece of Irish folk music with a poem written by an American lady!).♫

    Excellent and informative film - but just one criticism; I had to keep 'pausing' the video because the messages were not there long enough to read, and so the overall effect is lost somewhat...

      Thanks for the feedback. I did extend the text pages but did not want to have them on too long to bore people too much - a bit of a juggling task and I may have underestimated how long it takes to read things. Will take your comments on board if I do another one.

      Hi - and no problem. I hope I didn’t sound over- critical - didn’t mean to. :-) I’ve just watched it again without stopping to read all through, and it's still a wonderful film! I’ve always been interested in this historical event - and I believe Rev. Mompesson to have been a truly WONDERFUL man! I would love to see the Play again that was televised back in 1973 - but I can’t find a copy anywhere.... Thanks again.

    Great tribute to a terrible event in history and the stolid heroism of the people of this village, whose unselfish,self imposed quarantine must have saved thousands of lives. Just think if the Plague had spread to other areas like Sheffield. It could be that Eyam still has its part to play in fighting the Bubonic Plague. ua-cam.com/video/bQ8JQZwiwWE/v-deo.html

    Acorns into Mighty Oaks When I leave this world I hope I leave a better place Where deeds I've done And paths I've trod Have helped the human race; Where seeds I've sown will blossom still And trees I've planted grow From acorns into mighty oaks I hope I've made it so. For to leave the world without a trace No footprints in the sand No memory in a loved one's heart, No mark upon the land, No legacy to show you cared, No promises to keep, Must surely make it hard to face An eternity of sleep.

    Many thanks for the full lyrics we can see and read. This version of the song & tune performed by Katherine Jenkins, what might be called the Katherine Jenkins version, perhaps, may well be classical now the world over, although it so happens that in Japan Man Arai's version titled "A Thousand Winds" released a couple of years ago has been much better known & loved by many Japanese---I don't know exactly why!♫

    • @neonpuss1
      @neonpuss1 10 років тому

      Well there is a BRADSHAW HALL but the ones who died and the house they lived in seems to have been BAGSHAW. What literature do you get your info from? I shall make enquiries of those who live in Eyam.

    • @neonpuss1
      @neonpuss1 10 років тому

      Captain_PlaysMC Have had this info back from Eyam page on Facebook - 'The Bradshaws fled Eyam and left Bradshaw Hall partially built, Bagshaw House is now the name of the building in which the Siddall family lived'. They also said that if you are 'studying Don Taylor's stage play The Roses of Eyam the only Bradshaws mentioned or portrayed in that play are Squire Bradshaw and his wife'. Hope that helps to sort out the confusion.

    Laugharne is pure beauty, the different colour houses that line up the streets is like balamory, and of course lets not mention the great dylan thomas who resided there with his family. This place is my childhood, and when I go back there occasionally it's still the same, undaunted by time. I walk up sunny hill and look at where my grandparents used to live before their untimely deaths, and remember sitting on my granddad's lap as he read me stories of the wind and the willows etc. Just.. nice.
