Jabu Lake & Lake Lucille | Pyramid Creek Trail | Desolation Wilderness
Took a trip up Horsetail Falls to scout some lakes I hadn't been too. Crossed Pyramid Creek between Pitt & Ropi Lake and headed up towards Lake of the Woods. From there, took trail up towards Echo Lake and then cut off towards Aloha and PCT at the four way junction. Off of the P.C.T. - went down to explore Lake Lucille. Then finally, headed back up to P.C.T. towards Aloha and went offtrail towards Cracked Crag and Jabu Lake.

Took a wonderful day hike from Wrights Lake up the Twin Lakes trail to the Grouse Lake trail with the intention of going over the Smith Lake ridge to Mount Price. However, a late start - coupled with a long navigation through the boulders of Smith Lake & lack of water and motivation.. Yea I realized the risks. I was honestly a lot more worried about the ticket from CHP. I would actually pay $5,000 to get a damn ranger to patrol horsetail falls! Lot of unleashed animals out there and would love to see the leash law enforced! Maybe they could catch these graffiti freaks too! 🤔 but sadly... the area is sparsly patrolled. No one said anything when I walked out... they actually asked me questions on how the trail looked. 😄

      back in the 80s before there was a paid parking lot me and my buddies used to go up horsetail without permits and fish ropi and pyramid lakes. until one day we got rolled on by a ranger doing all the wrong things we were caught red handed. she wrote up the ticket and chatted with us for a half an hour but before leaving she smiled and ripped up the ticket and told us to be good boys from now on. her tactic worked thankyou random female ranger. i havent seen another ranger anywhere but the town side of aloha or echo lake trailhead since.

  • @ACTSVERSE
    @ACTSVERSE 3 роки тому

    I assume the multi color modes are low light settings as well, and therefore the multi color modes last an advertised 36 hours on a single charge like the low light white setting is marketed to last?

    • @CaliWilderness
      @CaliWilderness 3 роки тому

      I would say that's a fair assessment. The multicolor mode doesn't offer any adjustment of brightness like the white light setting has. I haven't had any issues with running out of power on extended trips. I normally will hang them off my pack if need be for solar charging and or just lay them in the sun all day once I make camp.

    • @ACTSVERSE
      @ACTSVERSE 3 роки тому

      @@CaliWilderness Obviously assuming adequate sun light exposure all day of hiking/camping, do you find that a solar-only charge during a single day's daylight hours is enough juice for what you need during the evening? 20 hours for a full charge is probably 3 days of good sunlight. But if 6-8 hours of good sunlight per day gets you though one full evening, then I wouldn't really care about waiting for full charge.

    • @CaliWilderness
      @CaliWilderness 3 роки тому

      @@ACTSVERSE I've taken both of these on a 4night trip, they were charged completely when I left. It was sunny the majority of the time and I laid them out each time I set up camp and never had an issue with them running out of juice. Granted I also carry a small goal zero Lantern and a fenix headlamp as well. So these are generally used for ambient lighting in camp. Additionally, once the sun goes down I really am only up for maybe an hour or two after that. Then I'm in the sleeping bag and getting some z's. So the usage time is fairly short each evening. However, I would not rely solely on these lights when backpacking. Always have a headlamp and maybe even a small electric Lantern.
