In early 13th century a Tai prince named Chaolung Siu-kā-pha, who was a crown prince of Tai state of Mong Mao, in and around present day Ruili in Yunnan Province, China, forced to migrate after the birth of a cousin blocked his path to his father’s (maternal uncle) throne. And, after 13 years on the journey and crossing the Patkai mountains in Myanmar (Burma), he arrived in Namrup, in the southeast of the Indian (Indo) state of Assam in 1228 AD, and founded the Ahom kingdom. It has been recorded in historical manuscripts of Tai- Ahom/Shān that he had started his journey along with nine thousand followers, three hundred horses, three queens, five sons and other high status nobleman and carried their belongings arms and ammunition, technologies from the present day Ruili (Mong-mao kingdom) in 1215 AD in search of establishing a new kingdom of his own choice. Siu-kā-phā’s reign as the king of Ahom kingdom, who ruled medieval Assam for six hundred years, and famously resisted other great powers, such as the Mughals, is considered to be a glorious chapter in the history of Assam. He is widely referred to as the architect of ‘Bor Asom’ or ‘greater Assam’ because of the amicable relationship he developed with the tribal communities living in Assam at the time of his arrival. He was revered for being a strong, courageous, and fearless leader who played a vital role in unifying the various indigenous ethnic groups of Assam. His descendants continued his legacy by unifying various regions of North-East India and ruled for around 600 years. In Assam King Chaolung Siu-kā-phā remembered as the founding father of state (called province in China) of Assam/Aashaam/Ahom/Asom. Assam and Yunnan, China has deep shared socio-cultural and genealogical connections. 🇮🇳 🤝 🇨🇳
