Founded by James Shipstone in 1852. Registered February 1891. The brewhouse was built in about 1900 to the designs of architect William Bradford.
Acquired by Greenall Whitley & Co. Ltd in 1978 with 280 houses and closed 1990. Most buildings remain, in use by John Pyle Auctions.
