Bottom line on Alice is if you’ve got $13k to drop on a pin you gotta be nutso to get that haha. I could get the Mando LE and FF Pro I want. Or so many other games and combos. Suggesting manufacturers hold gameplay for months after announcement and sales is pretty anti consumer. But I get the sentiment. I think they need to release a 2-5min top down shot of 1 great ball - someone going nuts and hitting like 20 shots in a row, starting a mode and multiball and hitting all shots a couple times. Doesn’t have to be live. Just show us all the shots in a controlled way so your games doesn’t look like crap but we get to see how it shoots. I think live gameplay reveals that Stern does are probably too risky and unnecessary. Let the content creators do the live gameplay reveal once they get a game. X-men rules NEED to force you into the danger room too.

DP got let down by their video crew on the trailer and had to do it themselves.

I don’t think it was a great job of the stream - the lag was all over the place - they kept speaking over each other, the game was too dark, they kept chopping and changing scenes and they didn’t have anyone who could play pinball doing the playing. The best part was Cary accidentally muting himself and not noticing 😂😂😂

FYI Rad cals is a made up name for vinyl with a 12mil laminate protection. Stern no longer put any laminate on all their decals, its bare exposed ink... Regular laminate is about the cost of the vinyl itself, something similar to Rad cals is around twice as much. So for Stern to use something similar compared to what they are doing now (no laminate at all) it would cost them about triple the cost. As far as I know Stern are the only manufacturer that are not laminating their artwork at all, its quite important imo as it provides an additional protection for the ink not to rub off but also provides around 2-3 times longer UV protection vs exposed ink alone. So make sure to keep your new Sterns out of the sun! I own a print shop and I never ship any artwork not laminated whatsoever. Stern are really cheaping out on that aspect, however most people are probably not aware of this. They try cut costs everywhere while raising prices.

Joel if you’re getting what would otherwise be a customer game you should have no fear of showing issues with it.

Couldn’t disagree more about the difference of long term playability difference between Stern and JJP being tied to insider connected. JJP’s tables just aren’t as good, they have a cheap feel to them despite their high cost. The high cost also prohibits them from being in as many publicly available places so there is less of an opportunity for people to get into them. Not all Stern tables are great, but they hit the mark often enough. This being said, Avatar looks great, and I hope it does well. Elton John was good, still felt cheap, maybe it’s the flippers?

About xmen, lets be honest... rushing this game to market isnt making the callouts and music any worse. Those callouts and music are DONE. Maybe we get better animations, but my fear is we have another AIQ on our hands: great pkayfield and art, ho hum assets from the software side.

Woah was looking at the comments while I watched all of this. On the one side I felt I heard some of the smartest business type comments from Travis that I have ever heard on a pinball podcast. But yah wow the unbridled bias as really quite out of control. And I own no JJP just Stern and a couple older Williams.

It's almost heartbreaking when you have a 22" inch monitor, but you have to print a convoluted spreadsheet to teach a game. Then on top of that "Just look up really high at this other giant monitor and that will really tell you the information you want." Least user friendly experience. Should be fun to play a game, not an after school study. I'd imagine if they were in the business of selling toasters, we would have 15 buttons and 3 knobs and 1 to 2 LCD screens for you to bake a piece of toast.

Listening to Joel try to describe the rules and modes for avatar sounds like me trying to explain the rules to godfather to someone. Soooo confusing and needlessly complicated. Maybe we godfather owners need a translite rule sheet too? 😂

I didn’t want to like X-men (space and money) but I loved what I saw at release and ended up ordering. I watched the first stream and I wasn’t nearly as critical as the “community”. I’m still excited to pick it up.

I mean, Travis is a joke! Is there anyone really thinking he's impartial? He's selling Stern and he refuses to answer any question because "he doesn't want to be in trouble" and a few minutes later he's blasting JJP like they're doing nothing good! No need to mention that he DOESN'T sell JJP as a dealer and that he clearly wants to make them drown so he can sell more Stern! Seriously, it's a shame!

Is Travis going to Free Play this year? I didnt know he came down in prior year(s). As for your comments about Stern vs JJP. At my local arcade most people don't login to Insider. I don't believe that's the issue. The casuals just don't put quarters into JJP games. They aren't as fun mechanically. The flippers don't hit as hard (even with new capacitors). Wonka was super dark. Toy Story the main shot (kaboom ramp) pops up and disappears on a 3.5 second timer.

Guys, they have a saying in German- "People talk as the day is long". I think that you are paying WAY TOO MUCH attention to the garbage being said by "prospective" customers. People lie. CONSTANTLY. Don't give their garbage any credence. I would hazard that 9/10 of the feedback is just noise. Be a stoic. Form your own opinion. Stream with a positive, happy attitude and the rest will follow. Set the example - don't follow the crowd. LEAD - DON'T FOLLOW. You are only enabling the negativity when you give it power. No stream will "make or break" a game. It will only slow down or speed up it's trajectory. The truth ALWAYS comes out. I'm not saying tweaks cannot be made - but man, there is so much garbage being talked in pinball. It's as bad as knitting (no joke, look into it yourself). Play happy. Screw the haters.

LEs don't hold value either. Let's all be honest that all NIB buyers need to expect a decline in price from the retail. I have multiple LEs in my collection and every single one of them would have to be sold below MSRP. See example Venom LEs which seem to be going for about 8-8.5K.

Question: So does all the trades for X-men mean there will be a new flood of used pinball machines for sale? Maybe a good opportunity to get my first pin for cheaper than new of box?

I have Deadpool and just traded for an X-Men. The Deadpool movie did cross my mind when I thought about owning both of these machines. This one was a pro for me, mainly due to cost and maintenance of extra mechs. If I had the cash I would have went premium but this pro looks like one of the best Stern Pros ever made.

I agree strongly with Travis that some element of timing is inevitable in pinball - Next year I'm will trial a tournament with time limits. And couldn't agree more Tom is epic at streaming - the Goat!

The modes in Rick and Morty were great across the board. Life of Roy was brilliant. Also the 25+ dimensions that change the game start. So great.

Spooky no longer sell out, the s**tshow that was Halloween, then Scooby have made people wait and see. You can buy any of them here if you want them. Agree on Zach for making customers whole - rare in todays market and if I was US based I'd be a buyer.

If Stern started coding a timed option do you think tournaments would use it? Eg each player gets 10min -1min per drain. Could really streamline things, especially for early rounds. I think the options should be very limited - like 2-3 time limits with corresponded drain penalty. I would like this for home use even. Stepping up to Godzilla for a 30 min game is too much sometimes. Nice mode discussion. I was thinking about this with Spider-man as I think it’s one of the most wood choppy games I’ve played, despite it seeming really fun and varied at first. Most of the game I’m just timing out modes and endlessly chopping white shots and doc oc. Overrated code imo, but maybe I’m just not good enough.

I was on a Disney cruise last week as well haha, the Dream. Dennis just clearly doesn't get it. I was thinking how I wish they would put some pinball machines on board. Sounds fun to play on a ship rocking back and forth. Yeah, yeah safety, maintenance blah blah. How many games does Stern make per day? How many pinball machines are getting made per year across everyone? Also - why can't we buy games without the coin mechs? Aren't we at like 75%+ to home use? Nice tease with 'Stern game will be innovative and stretch the idea of what pinball is/could be'. What do you know :)? I think it would be exciting if someone got real creative with what a pinball machine looks like and how it plays. Don't really think Pinball 2000 failed because it was a bad idea.

IPS panel means no matter where you stand, the image color doesn't change. Non IPS panels means as the viewer moves, the color will not look the same.

People care about code. People care about playing. But the experience never helps people. Rule cards are 100% useless. The foo fighters card says "shoot bot targets" "collect foo parts". .....ok....... People HATE JJP's low scoring. It makes them feel like losers. "I played this game 5 minutes and only got 180,000 points?" How that is still not fixed is crazy. They need simple playtesting feedback. The problem is none of the programmers are fixing basic user experiences. No reason JJP's have low scoring. Every new/newish player I know hates JJP games. Even newer games I've seen where the mode code disappears so fast. "Here is what to do" flashes for less than 1-2 seconds on some games. Foo Fighters iwhen you select a city mode, it doesnt even tell you what you have to do before you select it. Nobody is going home and studying rulesheets. That isn't fun.

Speakerlights i will upgrade to the stern ones if they add stuff in code. Expression lights could tempt me also. Just don't give me any of that pinstadium crap. I also agree on sound and when ever Jerry is on sound for Stern I'm super happy. what is a shitter about SIC is they did the limited online stuff and most people in Europe don't have the game! I'm still waiting to get my LE! Walking dead with the comic art could be nice in black and white.

All Stumblor mods already had black and white covers on the signs. I swapped all mine out before installing each of Stumblor's mods.
