    Hi, i have two 3.5 inch hdd with movies and documentaries, if i put them into this enclosure, will it auto format both my hdd? Or can i just plug and play on the pc? If it auto format my hdd, that would be a nightmare

      In no situation should you use disks where you have crucial data, when starting to create a RAID! Whether on a computer with hardware/software RAID or on a box like this. In RAID 1 depending on the RAID controller, the array creation may erase the data on one or both disks to ensure that both drives are identical. In some cases, one drive’s data might be copied to the other, but this is not guaranteed! Before setting up any RAID, it's essential to back up all critical data from the drives to avoid any risk of data loss during the array creation process.

      Hi thanks for the response, I'm only looking for a plug and play solution and not setting up any raid which i have no knowledge on. I just want a dual 3.5 inch hdd enclosure so that both my 10tb hdd of documentaries and 4k movies can be played on a dock connect to my TV. If this enclosure will rease all data upon first setup, then it is useless to me

    • @hackthefreestuff
      @hackthefreestuff 6 днів тому

      Ah, I see! If your goal is for the enclosure to recognize both drives using a single USB cable, you can still use it by selecting the JBOD mode. This way, nothing will change on your drives, and they will appear as two separate drives on your computer or TV. However, if that's your only purpose, you might find more affordable options. This enclosure is more expensive because it's designed to support the creation of RAID systems, not just function as a simple drive enclosure.

      If you’re asking in a scenario where you have RAID1, and one of the discs fails, if you replace it with a new disk of the same size or bigger, independently of the disc format (FAT32/NTFS/EXT3/APFS/etc.), will format according and populate the new one.

    Hi. I can't understand what to do in RAID 1 if one HD fails.... Is it enough power off the enclosures and change the broken HD with a new one?.... You have to leave the enclosure powered on until the datas are copied in the secondi new HD?.... Tnx.

    • @hackthefreestuff
      @hackthefreestuff 17 днів тому

      According to the JMS561 chip datasheet and comments on forums, if one of the disks fails in RAID1, when replacing the failed disk with a new one (with the box turned off), the new disk receives a copy of the existing disk (rebuilding stage) automatically. I haven't had time to test this script yet, and I also don't have another disk the same size as the existing ones to check, but I'll try to find a way to do that soon: gist.github.com/peci1/9ca0cd57d0ecc2c3a6cd4446207d213d

      @@hackthefreestuff I wrote the follwing email to ACASIS. I'll let yu now their answer !!! -------------------- Dear, I’m interested on EC-7352 dual bay RAID enclosure. I’ve read the user manual available on your website, but i can’t undertand how to manage HDD in RAID 1 when one of them fail. I mean: which are DETAILED instruction to replace a broken HD without data loss? After replace is done, does rebuilding data on the new hard disk requires that enclosure is powered on untill copy finish? Rgrds. -------------------

    • @josephrossi4062
      @josephrossi4062 16 днів тому

      Here the answer: ------------ Thank you for reaching us. Please initialize and format the new hard drive on your computer before using it. Before using RAID mode, please back up your data to avoid data loss. RAID 1 mode will automatically back up the small-capacity hard drive to the large-capacity hard drive. So please make sure that your new hard drive has a larger capacity than the original hard drive. Specific operation: Please take out the hard drive that needs to be replaced, and then put your new hard drive in. After replace is done, rebuilding data on the new hard disk requires that the enclosure is powered on until the copy is finished. Best regards, ------------

    I recently bought this enclosure from a seller on aliexpress. I have it hooked up via USB 3.0 to my Lenovo M710q Tiny purposed as a home server running CasaOS on top of Debian 12 standard. However, I have the EC-7352 configured by dipswitch to RAID-1. Which is ok. My CasaOS sees it and I can access my files across the home network. The only thing is for me so far is how to check the health of the raid-1 in the acasis ec-7352? Smart read out isn't very clear the only thing I can determine of drive health is it passes according to Smartctl in Debian Linux. Other than that..not much detailed reporting is given. I have not put irreplaceable files on it. Using it to hold some media files and documents to access through the home network. Even CrystalDisk Info doesn't recognize it when I have it connected directly to my Windows 10 rig. Gsmartcontrol recognizes it in Parted Magic..but very slim on the health details. I got this on AliExpress due to the enclosure was in my budget to purchase. Other brands are expensive.

    Just what i needed. Hows the heat in the box? I am afraid of it being like an oven since the ventilation and tiny fan dont give me much confidence in the heat dissipation.

    • @hackthefreestuff
      @hackthefreestuff 18 днів тому

      With the original fan it is enough for cooling, but it is a little noisy, but it is possible to replace it with another one with more airflow and less noise. If you turn off the fan (which I've also done), it turns into an oven 🍳, where the aluminum box actually burns when touched. 🥵

      You’re welcome. If you turn off the fan, barely you can hear the discs spinning. But it’s a small box and the discs produce a lot of heat, in the aluminium box can fry eggs with the fan off. So you need to leave the fan turned ON for the disc's health, and the fan it’s a bit noisy.
