McIntosh MC-2105: Repair and Restoration
Переглядів 4,5 тис.21 день тому
This is me fixing up a McIntosh MC-2105 Power Amplifier.
I saw your hat and had to comment . I worked at CC from 1972 (before it was called CC) till the very end and I loved every minute . Great memories, great people ,and sure there were some duds but CC got a bum rap from many, and curse the deadbeat MBA's that ruined it for all of us and for the public. Thanks to the Wurtzels , Danny Rexinger , and Bill Revis and all the good ones who made it what it once was . Does anyone know if Allen Wurtzell ever wrote his book about what really happened ? For those who hated it , all I can say is you just met the wrong people . Thanks for the memories !
Definitely gonna be a fun one
what is the guy name/email that you can get the equipment from
made in the USA --> massive turn off
Nice job! Replaced the face plate on my 2105 during it's last service... everything went smooth until installing the bottom cover and heard a crack! $200.00 down the drain! McIntosh was out of stock when I went to re-order it... but looks like maybe they have them again? Pretty amazing that you can order a new faceplate for a 50 year old amplifier! That's what separates McIntosh from the rest of the crowd! Anyways, great video... thanks for sharing!
I saw some JBL-100t3's there... $1200 a pair for 30+ year old speakers is a bit much.
Would also like to see turntables. Do you have a website or an EBay store where all your inventory is listed?
We’ll do some turntable content soon. If you see anything you’re interested in, or to see more, check out our Instagram and send us a message.
Nice work!
BOSE BLOWS!
Make Circuit City great again
NEW SUSCRIBER !! 😊 love vintage gear audio 💙😊 Hi from ENSENADA baja MEXICO 🇲🇽🇲🇽 saludos amigo ☺️
Nice hat
Next Post-Turntables, please!
Do you work on viewers gear?
We work on whatever gear comes in our door, but we don’t currently ship repairs, so it would have to be reasonably local to South Portland, Maine
Whoever owned that unit has no respect for such great equipment. The person who bought it new may have been proud of if it, but after that own it was all down hill. I'd love to have some McIntosh gear, but I can't afford their tee shirts these days.
This is really helpful! I’m hoping to try to DIY my 2505 this winter, and while not exactly the same, this will be a good reference. Any chance you can do this for an MX114? 😂
Great video, love watching the process!
Wasting time. Change all power supply caps, burnish the relay contacts, change the several output board caps, change the preamp, tone board, flat amp, phono and fm board caps. The main filters are generally fine. Clean the controls, trims, align the tuner, lubricate the tuning string pulleys and tuning knob bearings. Change the fuse lamps in the scale and set dc offset, bias and power supply voltage.
Where are you located sir, are you in Australia ?
Great Video, I have a 2275 and the right side speaker has considerable lower volume and seems to be missing some highs ?? What do you think the cause could be ? Thank You .. JoSoFo
BTW, for those still learning, when he said, "that's a good sign", what he was referring to was the speaker protection relay kicked it. If you don't hear that distinct, "click", a few seconds after powering on, you still have Power Amp issues.
After having a desoldering gun, I'd never be without one, even for one, large project, like re-capping an old receiver/integrated amp. I purchased a cheap Anesty unit and it's amazing! Components usually pop right out after one try with this unit and if you have the temp set right, it won't damage and lift the pad.
Gracias por compartir!! Thanks dude!
Hi, I have a 2275 that needs lights and servicing. It plays music from the aux input on both channels. Where are you located?
Is it better than 2270
Name of song?
Great video, do you have any recommendations on what to use to clean the glue residue off the circuit boards or do you not worry about that. i'm thinking corrosion. Thank you!
The glue Marantz used was/is pretty benign, and they didn’t use a lot of it, but we usually use IPA to clean it up.
Nice info, thanks for sharing :)
Wasting time doing Al that makes a lot of money a year so u can just buy a new one intead doing all that,I have no time for all that old school it's 2022 already.Ill pay to do all that for me & I'll be sitting by the beach and wait for a phone call & it's ready to picked up!!!
Yes, paying someone to do something you won’t or can’t do is generally how it works.
I’m a newbie what do you set your multi meter to when checking your idle current? Thanks
On a Marantz, set it to DC millivolts. You can also set it to DC volts if your meter can resolve 1/1000 of a volt on that setting (.***)
What does it cost to do all this i have a 2216b that has a channel out and would like to fix it or have it fixed?
A channel out could be output transistors or other transistors on the boards. Maybe $200-300 to service.
Nice job
Great job! What type of caps do you use on power board? Are audio grade okay or are another type better?
Audio grade caps tend to have tighter capacitance specs, but higher ESR. It likely doesn't make much of a difference on a power supply board, though, so really just use whatever you have.
Nichicon UPW-UPM are great for power supply.
