I’d recommend gluing it to a backing board and frame to help support the weight of items within the foam

Great video! I finally got a first clue to a problem I've been mulling over for a future project, but I'm still not sure how. I need to line a case thats like 100x35x4cm, but to do that I would need to thin out a 5cm sheet. Is there an easy way to do this? Do you just try to cut as much as you can reach with a loose snap-off blade and a 4cm block and than just peel the reast by hand? I'm dreading the day I have to tackle that if that's the case, my hands fatigues easily.

Nice one. Fun case to work in. Not so fun for work site. It is nice to see random use case. Few days ago i finally got the time to do my first insert. It was fun to do it. It looks amazing. I was just missing some box for used blades. Maybe you should offers something shadow foam branded.

My tip would be if you need to sculpt foam to a shape, or cut straight at right angles, ditch the standard blade from the snap-off utility knife and replace it with an Olfa or Kai ultra sharp. These Japanese blades are so much better than anything else. Not surprising given that Olfa invented them. Decorators merchants tend to stock them. Makes life so much easier.👍

I finally got around doing my first toolbox with shadow foam, though I need to touch up a few areas with glue since there were some delamination between the two sheets of foam I had glued together. But it turned out quite nice, considering it was my first try. A tip I have for large items/bigger areas, especially if you get fatigued easily or otherwise find it cumbersome, is to; after you've traced around your item, make some cuts across the area so you get smaller chunks that's easier to peel out rather than doing it all in one go. If you're concerned with a good finish on the bottom though, I'd leave a layer in the bottom to peel out as one piece, e.g. If you need to go down 40mm on a larger area, trace around your item as normal and to the final depth, then slice the chunk up in strips but only to 30mm deep, and then pull out the last 10mm in one go.
