The NRTC is pleased to announce that we have developed instructional materials to improve students’ knowledge of blindness and low vision. We envision these materials could be utilized in a range of degree programs and may be especially helpful in Rehabilitation Counseling and other Counseling specialties. Students in Social Work and Education programs may also benefit from these materials.
Objectives and Goals:
• Increase understanding of blindness and low vision (B/LV)
• Explore a brief history of legislation specific to B/LV
• Identify possible barriers to independence and employment
• Examine the roles of the professional rehabilitation team
• Discuss the concept of “Adjustment to Blindness”
• Introduce assistive technology specific to B/LV
• Discuss common myths and misconceptions
• Introduce blindness etiquette
