Look at me being a dumb American. It turns out Doki Doki Panic is technically a licensed game and the main characters are not Nintendo Characters. So the joke about a franchise dying made no sense. I can't really blame myself, since most people I've seen talk about SMB2 never go into detail about Doki Doki Panic. Plus, these characters were made for a Japanese convention from the 80's, and I'm an American from the 2000's.
