Live Pot End Kits Single Core Xlpe MV Cables
Some times, cables have to be installed and left live for use at a later date on planned expansions of the electrical network. Fitting an end cap isn't the answer, a live pot end should be used.
Here is a training video on our range of heat shrink live pot end kits for single core medium voltage xlpe or epr cables. The video shows the 6.35/11(12kV) system but with the addition of extra insulation build up tubes and some dimensional changes, the kit is then suitable for 17.5/24/36kV systems.
Kits are also available for 3 core cables including older paper cables.

    In America, that outer heat shrink is a zipper shrink, so you don’t need to remember to slide it on first.

    • @shrinkpolymersystemsuk
      @shrinkpolymersystemsuk 4 роки тому

      Hi Jeffrey. There are two standard versions of this joint, one with an outer shrink tube sealing on to a large 3 core breakout that seals the single core cables, or a version with a plastic joint shell filled with resin compound. However, we could and have supplied it with a wraparound shrink sleeve (zipper sleeve) for some who request that.

    Some companies are selling shrink tubes that are non halogen. This is not the same as zero halogen and would never meat the strict London Underground test standards

    My dear, there is compound tape should be position under the led.

    • @shrinkpolymersystemsuk
      @shrinkpolymersystemsuk 4 роки тому

      You say under the lead? this is an xlpe cable and has no lead sheath like a pilc cable or a petrochem cable that may have lead. If you mean tape beneath the armour wires over the inner bedding, then on normal LV joints yes, there would be mastic tape. However on zero halogen and fire resistant joints, you have to reduce the number of materials within a joint that are not individually tested and conform to strict fire testing standards. We have London Underground approved zero halogen joints and we use the same materials in our fully fire resistant joints

  • @Wintersky136
    @Wintersky136 7 років тому

    1.) You will get water-ingress over time because you placed the earthbondsleeve over the three breakout sleeve... 2.) In terms of 33kV the gaps between conductor, terminator and shield have to be completely sealed, which isn't been done! 3.) Using clamps is never a good idea, use rolesprings instead! 4.) The Armoring needs to be completely earthbonded - hasn't been done aswell - Bad termination!

    • @shrinkpolymersystemsuk
      @shrinkpolymersystemsuk 7 років тому

      The adhesive lined earth bond sleeve fully seals onto the cable jacket and the breakout skirt so no moisture will enter. The earth braids that exit the sleeve have solder blocks and these lay upon black mastic tape and have black mastic over so no moisture will pass this. The earth bond is very secure, roll springs are suitable for copper tape screen earthing and lead earthing but do not supply a solid earth connection on the armours. Your point there is incorrect. Red mastic sealant is supplied and covers the end of the primary insulation, fills the gap between conductor and lug barrel and extends upon the lug barrel. The anti-track tube is then fully sealed once shrunk into position. The termination has been fully tested and subjected to salt fog and humidity tests designed to simulate long service life. We have been selling them for 25+ years without issue. The jointer fitting the termination is also very experienced. I think your comments are not correct about being a bad termination.

      Why didn't the fitter score the armour with the hacksaw, prior to removing the outer sheath...if he had done so, he'd have had one task less to do.

      The GB-P20 tool is available page 43 in our online catalogue, we always keep two to three of them. Your terminations should be a lot more reliable if you use a tool like this. Actually let me clarify, if done very carefully, using a knife or glass may produce a reliable termination but using a tool should give you a consistently reliable termination. If you fit the other components correctly of course.
