Everything Rimfire and accurate AR15s are my specialty. Come along and join me on my firearms addiction. I test scopes, precision 10/22s, precision bolt guns and Ar15s and all the gear that goes with them.
A Better Built 10-22 on a Budget...... But with Better Parts
Last year I put together a budget 10-22 for a friend of mine. I tried to use lower cost components that enhanced accuracy and still retained a quality feel. But, since then I have come across components that I find are better but still retain a quality feel. So in todays video, I go over those components and show you how it shoots. I shoot some budget SK, some Eley SABR and Match. Now, it was super cold outside. These .22s definitely dont shoot to there full potential below 50 degrees. Watch and find out just how good this budget rifle shoots. I'll leave a link to the first Budget Rifle video I did below.

What do you think about the CMC trigger.
@@peterdarlington4117 I haven't tried it. They wouldn't send one. But I do know they are heavy! Somewhere around 3.5lbs. I do like their AR triggers but a good 10-22 target trigger should be 2lbs or less IMHO
Yes sir completely agree and I have them on all of my AR’s 2 1/2 pound and this one is going on a 10/22 with a Samson folding stock that my kids will be shooting so wasn’t necessarily looking for a really light pull but ended up buying the volquartson TG2000 anyway. So I’ll try that out and see how I like it.
How is the glass quality between the Heras and Helos? Could you play with them at longer range and in challenging conditions (low light, fog, rain, super bright and hot with lots of mirage) to compare their strengths as hunting scopes. I know this is a 22 channel, but you got them both and people would appreciate the information.
@@Snailz5 the glass is better in the Helos, but I never had any issues with the Heras seeing my hits and misses out to the 200 yards I tested them at. I wouldn't be afraid of the Heras at all. But it's an inexpensive scope at the end of the day. You get what you pay for.
Get a solid rear bag. Your vertical is coming from a soft rear bag. Great shooting with what you have though.
@@KT-en8pq I have every bag you can imagine, I've tried them back to back with the same results. I have a very good foundation with the bag I'm using, I make sure I have enough of the fill supporting the butt stock when I shoot. But thanks for the suggestion.

@@mattt5276 medium work good. Keep in mind, you won't be able to get alot of vertical adjustment out of that scope unless you have at least a 30 MOA scope rail. Or you can put a one piece mount on there that has the cant built in.
I don't see me trying to buy one of these barrels. Is that barrel too fat to make a jack handle out of it?
@@edjett2631 no sir it is not! 😂
Hmmm... That was disappointing to me.I don't have a really tight shooting 10-22 anymore, but I do have a couple that will shoot as good as that one one does. Hope you can get more help from BA than "It meets our accuracy standard."
@@edjett2631 they are ghosting me
Im curious is that the Eley Match you just bought because I had problems with mine ejecting too. I had to put in a new ejector and Josh steered me on to checking the head space. You really build some nice 10/22's. Also, I do the ARCA rail deal where I grind off the mlok mounts too. I just buy the cheap ones off Amazon. 30 skins
@@mlone7 yeah, there less than half the cost of a Area419, and once there installed you can't tell who makes it.
Enjoyed it, mine's a notch down. Kidd and Volquartson parts, Brownells Federsen barrel for a high volume varmint rifle. Short for getting in and out of the truck window. Bargain scope is an Arken 1-8x, good for 15 ft. to maybe 120 yds. Ammo is a notch down for me, usually CCI standard velocity, occasional treat for my rifle is SK rifle match. No competiton for this one, but thousands of rounds each spring.
@@craigm1954 they sure are a fun rifle.
Your editing on your shooting footage is perfect. The small perfectly focused target and ammo box in the corner, along with footage sped up of you shooting is great. Also, having the group size is helpful. Keep up the great videos!

@RimfireSS noticed in all of your videos you're shooting for accuracy but you're using a tactical/practical style setup with the bipod and rear bag. Next time I brought a Protektor front and rear rest and really tightened up my accuracy!

Hey Don, Good video. The rifle shoots good and will do way better on a good day I'm sure. I think the problem with extracting comes from the wax on the Eley bullets in cold weather. My CZ action never ever has a problem until I shoot Eley in cold weather. Try it when its even colder and then you'll know If thats true or not. @@chfire2004 I've got mixed feelings on the Summit, I had one and no matter how hard I tried to get the headspace correct it was impossible. Don, I've really been enjoying your channel. Glad you had some decent weather to shoot. @@TOMMYSURIA I've never seen one of those. I'll have to get in contact with them and see if they will send one out.
Kidd Innovations 10% OFF Code: 22rsskidd So, if you start off with an existing rifle and you want to duplicate this build, you are ahead of the game by a bunch. You won't have to buy a receiver, bolt, charging handle, trigger housing, or build pins. So you would have about $1050 for everything, including the Optic, Rings, and Area 419 Optic Rail. Without those items, you'll be at around $560, and it would be the same if you use the Victor Titan or the MDT Field Stock. If you're building from scratch and you need everything, the total cost of the build is quite a bit more. Most people don't realize how much it costs to buy everything needed to build a complete rifle. You have to buy things like the trigger housing, pins, action bolt and a vblock. While those things are not high dollar items, combined it adds up. So a complete rifle with Everything needed this build costs about $1400. If you have a stock trigger housing sitting around to put the Kidd trigger kit in, that will save $60-80. Or, you could use a different charging handle from Ebay and save even more. But, with the better quality feel of this rifle over the other Budget Build I did, it's worth the extra cost, at least to me.
@@RimfireSS can’t wait to build one. Should have bought the new 10/22 for 199 instead of the Savage mkii. Had to send it back for a new barrel. It was a total mess.
@@JonFox-t5x mine was too
@@JonFox-t5x it takes a lot of $$ with a 10/22 to shoot as good as a MK2. I am very optimistic that Savage will get you a good MK2. I love the 10/22 but the $ to accuracy ratio is pretty high. The ability for a layperson to customize and build a 10/22 is the major attraction. You can swap barrels with an Allen wrench.
@@krm944 I have a Boyd’s Pro Varmint stock now I got From Elijah over on Day at the Range. I just can’t see the 16.5 inch barrel going in it. Think I will get a 21” or 22” model to put in it. If I get it back and it performs really well I will be happy with it and leave well enough alone though. Looking at getting a CZ MTR ultimately. Just miss out every time they come back in stock. Get the notification, go to the website, and they are gone already. 😂
@ what state are you in Don. I was thinking North Carolina but you still have snow on the ground.
I've been through boxes of my Tac-22 (from different batches) and didn't find any loose crimps.
I gotta say the budget one had the best groups
Very cool mod! But please do a video on how you torque the bolts. I have a Wheeler Fat Wrench but there is no way to get it close enough to the barrel to torque the bolts. Thus, it's back to the old "experienced feel" method with a hex wrench.
@DaninVA that's how it's done
