Yep this was the beginning of his late 90's *all his beats sound the same* era. Those dragg punching kick snare and high hats used in *nearly* every beat of his. I think it started in 1996 with Jeru The Damaja's album *The Wrath Of The Math* in songs like "One Day". Before that his beats sounded relatively different. Listen to Group Home album *Living Proof* all the drums sound different. Listen to Biggie's *Unbelievable* from 1995 vs *Kick In The Door* from 1997 and there is a difference. He uses his new format of kicks and snares in Kick In The Door whereas Unbelievable he's chopping a beat.
