5:34, the service manual specifies 4.2 quarts for both engine models of the Buick Encore, not 4.75 quarts. It's crucial to use the correct amount of motor oil.
You even watch the video? Directly after that I said put in 4, and then I checked the level, then added another half quart to get it up to the dipstick. So I did indeed put the correct amount of motor oil.
@@danielfliman3683 Yes, I watched it. At 5:34, you state "the service manual calls for 4.75 quarts," which is incorrect. Regardless of whether you ultimately used the correct amount of oil, you still provided inaccurate information.
Dr. Oil to the rescue
This was SUPER easy thank you!!!
I gotchu
After you drain the old oil out the bottom of the car. You close that before you start pouring your new oil in correct ?
Dude.
very simple and short thank you
Yaiks !! what about the coolant in engine and heater core?
👍🏾🤟🏽!
Wow! I’m a lady and this seams so easy. I’m going to try doing it. I pay 250 to take it to the dealership every time. How much would all the parts and oil? I will get back to you after I do all the steps. Thank you.
Oil should be about $25-$30 and filter should be around $10 but if you don’t have the tools then you would need those as well. Best of luck!
Update: I bought the parts, I will do the oil change tomorrow. I’m so amazed how inexpensive all the materials cost. Wish me luck.

Update: yep, I did the oil change! Yay! It was fairly easy and followed the instructions! Only problem I encountered was the screw to oil under the car was too tight and stripped (I didn’t do it, they probably did that the previous oil change at the agency). Went to Orileys and told them my problem and they recommend some pliers type tool and a new oil screw cap. That was my only hiccup. Sorry I don’t know all the terminology or names of the tools. But for other women out there… totally recommend following the video. Even with the tools… it was 1/3 of what I pay at the dealership.
Congratulations I am happy for you!
This should possibly fix rough idle? Can anyone confirm? Thank You!
Damn good video sr

Definitely not a 2021 buick encore engine setup...
?
@@danielfliman3683 what?
Yes it is fool.
Good video. That oil filter placement is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. Why not place it on the bottom of the car?
Agreed, not as bad as BMW where you have to remove a coolant hose on some cars to get to it
Does this work for a 2016 Crosstrek 2.0L too? I assume yes.
I have 2019 Buick Encore and my oil filter is not where yours it located...
Hey Daniel how come you didn’t empty the reservoir in the video? Do I have to take that off to drain or does it drain through the radiator plug ?
You will have to remove the reservoir. Should just be 2 bolts at the top. Always a good idea to remove the reservoir, drain it and clean any residue/sediment.
Any grease needed, tie rod ends?, anywhere else?
The plastic plug is a problem for me. I took the belly pan off to gain access and things went great but when I reinstalled the plastic plug and started refilling it leaked. Not sure if it’s the plug that’s bad or the threads in the bottom of the radiator. This info has been no where to be found on the internet. I ordered a new plug and hopefully that will fix it but if not who knows. Plastic drain plug is a bad idea.
Hey man I got a Buick encore from 2019 and I just decided to change the oil my self I was wondering can I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30 that has dexos gen 3 approval even though the manual calls for gen 2?
You probably figured it out but yeah as long as it dexos you’ll be good. All GM vehicles need dexos approved oil
super clean engine bay! Nice job and thanks for the info
Thanks and you’re welcome!
Thanks for this🫶🏾
No problem!!
Will oil filter plyers work here?
where is the car jack
I need to check the clearance as I don't have ramps, seems like and easy job, Valvoline wants about 135.00 to do this very same process.
...and what if I am trying to get oil out of the radiator.
Just to clarify (because I have a 2012 Subaru Impreza), when you removed the air intake, it was to acess the radiator drain from the above the car, not below the car, right? It's going to drain from the bottom, but you are u hooking from above the car? ( I hope this is a clear question)
I was buggin bc i had my oil life% go down to like 13 this week, but my boy is at 4 here so I'mma breathe and go do the exact same thing today. Great video! Thanks for posting.
drain the oil first and leave it drip while you do the filter, less of a mess and gets more old oil out of the system, also what the hell is a newt meter?
Idk maybe it’s just me but I don’t think it’s a good idea to take mechanical advice from someone that doesn’t know what a nm is
When are you supposed to do the coolant replacement? Every 5 years?
According to Subaru, 1st replacement interval is 11years/137,500 miles, and then every subsequent replacement is every 6 years/ 75,000 miles.
@@danielfliman3683 thanks bud
Disagree on Pennzoil. Castrol full synthetic is best.
I hope you are being sarcastic. Castrol is known as a budget oil, doesn’t stack up nearly as well as Pennzoil or Mobile 1 in private testing. A good source for private testing is Project Farm, feel free to do your own research but many consider him as the gold standard of unbiased oil testing. But to each their own. Fresh oil is better than used.
Toyota needs to take notes with their impossible over engineered poorly designed engine it's a pain to just change air filter on toyotas
Not sure what Toyota you have but I have a rav4 hybrid and a Venza and both of them you only have to flip two clips by hand and then you can have easy access to the engine air filter. Here is a video for reference: ua-cam.com/video/buN9mVc8ryQ/v-deo.html
@@danielfliman3683 design is stupid it's one reason why I like American cars they aren't as complicated and over engineered as my camry
@Solidwolf34 wrong I've seen sole American cars last just as long
Don’t use brake cleaner on the engine. Use a car degreaser that’s safe on plastic and then rinse it off with water. Also, do not fill to the top of the dipstick because you might accidentally overfill the engine. The true reading of the dipstick is after the engine reaches operating temperature and you shut it down for 5 min. Then you check the reading. Using the dipstick while filling the engine with oil can give you inaccurate reading. Anywhere in between the dipstick marks is good and safe for the engine. The manual should say how much oil you need to add after draining the engine oil (hot).
Thanks for the clear and concise video. Our Encore had the other filter. Marked Hengs on top. The shop towel(rag) is very important.
i have choccy milk for coolant 😂
hi my car is subaru by adding a coolant it doesnt matter if the coolant is red blue or green can i fix the blue into green? or red into green?
Only use blue Subaru coolant
Nice job, thank you
No problem! Thanks for watching!
What is the best Subaru coolant alternative?
I don’t recommend using one. Subarus are very particular on the coolant they use, I would say to use the OEM coolant and nothing else.
@@danielfliman3683 I am from Egypt and there are no Subaru coolant so I need alternative
Asian blue is the same🍻
How’d u get the full funnel off wo spilling?? Curious. Thank you 😊
There is a plug that comes with the kit, after the coolant stops going down, you plug it, and then drain it back into the coolant container.
Does the car need synthetic ?
Were you dropped as a baby?
@@danielfliman3683 no, just lazy as an adult🤦♂️ I read the manual reluctantly 😒👍
@@leonsam12 If you can find me a single car on the road that was made past 2018 and is mass produced that doesn't call for full synthetic I will be impressed
the book says no
Hello! Could you do a quick video on floor jack and jack stand placements for 2012-2016 subaru imprezas? Been really hesitant to learn basic maintenance because I’m totally scared of the possibility of the floor jack and jack stands failing due to improper placement.
Hey! I’d love to if I still owned the car haha. Make sure you are jacking the car from the pinch weld, the semi thin line of metal that runs the length of the car, there are little cut outs in the pinch weld that you can use to know where to jack it from. Then make sure to put your stand on a chunky piece of frame and not the floor board, that’s pretty important. If you hit the frame with a screwdriver it should sound like metal on metal or else your hitting the floor board.
The jack placement is in your owners manual also there is arrows on the rocker panels indicating where to place your jack stands on 90%of cars
dose anyone know about the encores turning signal my light is half yellow half purple and i cant find anything on replacing it
Sorry but maybe you should go to the dealership or to a forum not the comments of an oil change video, and you’ll have better luck getting an answer.
check the blinker fluid it should be between the 2 lines, if it's under you will have no lumens and if it's over it will have too many lumens, as for the color there should be a knob inside the glovebox on the left that's for adjusting the color and brightness
Thanks for saving me $80!
No problem!
I did my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek today, I found it to be ALLOT EASIER to just remove the plastic under plate ( 4 12mm bolts and 6 push plugs ) That gave me FULL access to the drain plug and with out trying to do this with a short Phillips Screw driver.... I also used my air compressor and air nozzle to push the coolant out of the system... I got about 95% of the coolant ou of my car... So I now have almost all new coolant in my sysetm.....
how do i drain the resevoir tank?
That comes off easily. Push the plastic tab and slid it out towards the drivers side.
Hey what if im adding a different brand of coolant into my Subaru Impreza 2015. Can I add conditioner to it? Or should I ONLY use the conditioner with Subaru Super Coolant. (Im using aftermarket coolant bcuz it desperately needs coolant, I just bought it used)
Not sure, but I wouldn’t use aftermarket stuff, especially on a Subaru.
Excellent job I like how you have showed it here on your channel. Thank you.
Thank you!
How often should the coolant be flushed? I have a 2014 Subaru forester with only 31,000 original miles on it.
About every 8 years or 100k miles, so I would go ahead and “drain and refill” your system, it’s technically not a flush. Only flush if your system is very dirty.
@@danielfliman3683 I’ll have the dealership check it out next time I took it in for an alignment and they said everything looked amazing they actually wanted to buy my forester from me considering I just bought it. But I’ll have it maintained and keep it for many years.
Up to you, I used to work at a dealership, if you ask the service team if you need something, they are likely going to say yes even if you don’t need it, that’s how the game goes.
@@danielfliman3683 yes they told me every 60,000 miles the coolant needs to be flushed
I did want to ask you what does the Subaru coolant conditioner do?
Good job, thanks.
No problem!
Can you use a canister filter… like a Purolator PBL11403 PurolatorBOSS??
No.
What size phillips head are you using here? Thanks
Not 100% sure, sorry.
Well, I have 2020 Buick Encore and nope, my oil filter is not under the hood but under the SUV., so this video is misleading.
What a stupid comment. This guys trying to help you out. It’s not his job to accommodate all variables. If it doesn’t work for you carry on…it’s hardly misleading.
Different size engines have different oil filter locations lol
Different engine. The video is a 1.4L LUV. Yours would be a 1.4L LE2.
Also, the caps on the LUV engines are marked either UFI or Hengst. Depending on what cap you have it will need a unique filter.
