Here in Denmark where i live we value the Scandinavian friendship we have managed to build over many years now. The history of our countries goes back thousands of years and are so connected in many ways. You will have a good life going forward, that is something i am sure about. A Norwegian doctor asked me the other day how I felt about the states right now and I said, “I guess it has to fall. Most countries have to go through it. I just want it to be over with and to see it grow in to something more humane and functional for everyone.” I’m not really sure what to say sometimes in a setting like a doctors office. It’s so much to unpack or explain. When I’m really just there for a medical issue. But the people of Europe are concerned so it is nice to see they ask. Even at a doc. Appointment.

    Welcome to Norway, Alexa. The rules for immigration isn't special for USA, but there is a distinction between EU citizens (or EEA to be more precise) and people outside EU. If you live in Norway and has an income over a certain threshold it is not normally difficult to get a family reunion for a spouse (meaning the spouse can move to Norway) and when getting married in Norway, the spouse can stay in Norway until the paper work is done. When the Norwegian person does not earn above that threshold things become much more difficult. The intention is that the Norwegian citizen should be able to provide for the spouse until the spouse is assimilated and start adding income. I got my master degree in Pittsburgh, PA, by the way (almost 30 years ago). I lived in Squirrel Hill and went to University of Pittsburgh. Hope you enjoy Tromsø. I've been there a few times but live about an hour drive from Oslo myself. Norwegian grammar is easy, but as you say, there are many and very distinct dialects.

    • @AlexasArtofLiving
      @AlexasArtofLiving День тому

      Hey! I’m from the south hills of Pittsburgh 😉 my brother went to Pitt. Thanks for the clarification on immigration. When I was applying, you had to put in which country you were from in the UDI website. My immigration application requirements were different than my friend from China and same with my friend from Canada but I do know EU/EEA have their own regulations that make it easier than other countries. But, again, this was my experience with a job offer and a disabled husband. We applied in 2014, 2016 and again in 2017. Things may have changed since then.

    I figured you left America for some off the wall gullible useful idiot reason and I'm right . By the way, I too have to get a PEP scan every so many months, but my part of the bill is only $350 dollars per year. With my American insurance, of course. Like you deserve to free load off of Norway's healthcare system. I mean, since you have been a loyal taxpayer in Norway for all these many years. Uhm...apparently you have not learned yet, but nonetheless, there is no such thing as a free ride. However, you seem to believe there is. My flu and Covid shots, which I took at Walmart's pharmacy this year, cost be 0 dollars, but you know, that's that American insurance again. People who work in a grocery stores can't survive in the USA, but they do survive somehow, someway. It must be a miracle.

    • @AlexasArtofLiving
      @AlexasArtofLiving 2 дні тому

      Not for me. My taxes in Norway are lower than they were in the states. Also, you don’t need to pay taxes if you make below a certain amount. But everyone has different salaries and ways of business so it differs. You are also offered tax benefits for certain things like, owning a rental unit attached to your home. Which is what most people do in my neighbourhood.

      Because it’s taken out of taxes and there isn’t as much corruption in tax payment. It’s very strict here compared to places like The United States which is based on capitalism and tax cuts for the rich. There are A LOT of loopholes American’s use when it comes to taxes, which don’t exist here in Norway. We work in a humane way in Norway to help one another - Especially children who can’t provide for themselves.

    It's hard to believe you had to pay $10,000 if your husband had great health isnurance as you say unless he chose an extremwely large deductible to lower his premiums in which case that was his fault. Could be other reason but that doesn't sound like great insurance to me. My dedcutible is $350 per year so if I had a $110,000 procedure the mose it would cost me is $350. I read that people in norway pay a healthcare tax that is 8% of salary which would be $11,520 annual for me if I lived there. I pay $3,000 for health insurance here in the US. Norway is way too cold for me I would never think for a second to move there.

    • @AlexasArtofLiving
      @AlexasArtofLiving 2 дні тому

      Nope. Norway is not for everyone. 😆 and yes, it’s true he was charged $10,000. No joke. And in Norway, the health care tax is not a specific number coming from your pay check. You pay a percentage of taxes based on your salary and those taxes go towards universal health care plus more. Definitely not 8% only going to healthcare. I have paid between 10-20% depending on my work and pay. It’s worth I every time because with my pay and benefits of this country’s system I have been able to have 2 retirement accounts, invest in stocks and real estate (which gives me passive income), create a savings account, start my own business, travel multiple times per year. The list goes on. But everyone’s country and preferences are different ♥️ I’ll put out another Norway vs America video soon. So stay tuned.

If you earn $150.000/year the percentage will be higher, and in general high paying jobs are paying more in USA than in Norway. Alexa: Excellent film. :) We have some questions. You. mention in the description "stark differences". Clearly, Norway is virtually crime free....in all its forms. Yet, aren't rent costs almost 50 % more than in the United States ? Be assured that we are not naive. :) People DO and should "pay extra" ......to live in a socially sequestered environment and "self segregate" :) to avoid trouble causing people. As you know, ALL of THAT is good. :) What are the average wages vs. the real cost of living ? What employment opportunities are there for retired Americans and other foreigners who are LAWFULLY in Norway and want lawful employment ? Thank you verry. much for your help. :). Antoine

      @AlexasArtofLiving 2 дні тому

      Hey Antoine, Rent is around $800-1200 here for a one bedroom (I’m outside of Oslo, Oslo is around $1700, it’s like NYC in comparison). I own a rental unit and rent it out for $800, all included. 10 minute walk to the bus stop, right outside of the city in a quiet neighbourhood by the forest with multiple lakes. Most neighbourhoods here are a combination of single-family homes, townhouses and apartments to keep it available to everyone but there are areas that are for the wealthier or the poorer. When it comes to lawful work for retired Americans, I’m not the best person to aks but from what I see, a lot of people at retirement age here are actually retired. But those who aren’t work at grocery stores or own their own shops and choose to continue to work. I will create more content regarding Norway vs America in the future so feel free to subscribe. This is going to be long but I’m letting you know everything. 😉 For the winter time, nothing is done in the morning so JUST at night: I double cleanse (wiping away with a clean wash cloth each time) with la Roche Posey crème cleanser and then their gel cleanser. Apply with hands: two drops of Paula’s Choice chemical exfoliant, two drops of Lancôme hydro milk toner (don’t forget to apply on the eyes and under eyes, three drops of Clinique dramatically different lotion. Everything goes down my neck, chest and on the back of my hands as well. Summertime: I only use Paula’s choice every other night. I switch my cleansers to something cheaper and don’t use lotion 😮 but the milk cleanser hydrates sooo well, I don’t need a lotion. Hope this helps but I recommend studying skin, learning what type of skin you have and then it’s free to ask a pharmacist what they would recommend you use based on what skin you have. Instead of paying a dermatologist.

    This was a really informative standardization approach to the normality sense of the animistic sense of the tautological depreciating asset nomenclature of the epistemic norway epidemic with the United States.

    Hello from Denmark. You somehow appeared in my recommended. I actually didn't know it was that difficult to get approved in Norway but I know it's similarly difficult immigrating to Denmark if not even harder. Getting used to the climate and the language is the easy part in comparison. Not that it is easy at all I would imagine.

      Hello! Climate was easy since I’m from Pennsylvania with the same weather but I’m on the coast and the wind is CRAZY here. So I gave up on umbrellas. 😅 languages were never my thing but I’ve heard from others the language is easy since it’s similar to English..? But I always struggle to hear since there’s like 37262783 different dialects here. 😞 and now my husband and I are starting a new business in Tromsø…I have no clue what they are saying sometimes. 😆 Are you originally from Denmark or are you an expat?

    I'm glad your family went back to Norway. I heard the food is expensive in Norway, but the advantages sounds to outway any drawbacks. I hope your family has a happy ever after! I have to try to become a European citizen.

      Pretty much everything is expensive in Norway, but the wages are set for it. So if you have a job in Norway that isn't an issue, if you live of some other income it may be.

      Thanks for sharing! It sounds like you are a great father. My grandmother was from Slovakia. 😊 So we grew up eating a mushroom soup, bobalki and fish for Christmas Eve. And dressing up was a MUST every day. ♥️ Hopefully I’ll come to that side of Europe one day. Best of luck to you and your family.

      Yeah. That’s about what he made. It was a minimum wage job, at the time (2015) . Since then, I believe, they raised the minimum pay to $12/hour and then again to $15. I made $12/hour when I worked for the Disney company in 2012 but I was above minimum wage for the time. I had to hold two other jobs on the side to afford to pay my student debt and for my car bill and to save $100/month for an emergency fund. Which I ended up having to pay $9k for an infection in 2013, which completely wiped me out financially and I went in to credit card debt. It’s not a sustainable lifestyle if you don’t go in to a career that pays enough for emergency situations.

    You have too much of an accent to be american. Are you originally from Norway and moved back there after living in the US for a while?

    • @AlexasArtofLiving
      @AlexasArtofLiving 4 дні тому

      Maybe my American-English accent has changed over the years of being in Norway? Vowels are pronounced differently in the Norwegian language so I guess my vowels like “a” and “e” may sound off. However, I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and that is quite a slurred and relaxed way of speaking. I also talk out of the side of my mouth 🙊 that I may have picked up from my time in Ohio. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      @@AlexasArtofLiving Omg I was convinced you were not a native English speaker haha. Yes, I think it's the vowels and maybe it's the midwestern accent throwing me off.

      @AlexasArtofLiving don't say sorry to me. Say sorry to all the people who are revolving around your wishes. Your story about leaving the dream job doesn't check out at all. Seems like the husband kept the big medical bill to himself for a long time. Says a lot about his character

      @@wholeheart4287maybe I'm wrong. It just came off to me that way. I don't feel better for saying this. This video just randomly came across my feed. I guess the main thing is I don't see how the dream job turned into a nightmare. We all know about the shooting of schools in the us. What changed.
