Getting started operating on HF digital modes- Fldigi and HRD DM-780
Переглядів 3436 місяців тому
A few of us in my local club are interested in starting an HF digital net. In this video I go over some basic operations using Fldigi and Ham Radio Deluxe's Digital Master 780 (DM-780) software. I don't go into setup for CAT control or much about the sound card settings. This is more about actually USING the two programs to operate on digital modes.
My sBitx v2 Hybrid SDR HF Transceiver
Переглядів 12 тис.6 місяців тому
I picked this radio up on a trade at a local hamfest last month. It's made by HF Signals (www.hfsignals.com). I've been a huge fan of their products since I bought their uBitx HF radio a few years ago. This one puts out about 40 watts on 80 thru 10 meters (somewhat less on the higher bands) and does pretty much every possible mode, all running from INSIDE the transceiver, thanks to the built-in...

Hamfest finds! Drake 2B and Johnson Viking Adventurer

This past weekend at the local hamfest I acquired a Drake 2B receiver and a Johnson Viking Adventurer transmitter. The Drake was in fantastic condition but the Viking needed a little work. I ordered some crystals for the Viking and until they arrive I’ve been using a DDS VFO and making some contacts, with the Drake acting as the receiver. I’ve had a blast and hope to share some future contacts ...

North Cook Islands-E51D-on 12 Meters
Переглядів 83Рік тому
Just logged E51D in North Cook Islands. Ham Radio Deluxe (my logging software) calls it SOUTH Cook Islands, which I mistakenly said in this video. He was very weak at first, but started getting stronger after a few minutes. Surprisingly he wasn’t working a huge pileup. Just steady contacts. Hope to get him on other bands soon. EDIT: Worked him on 15 meters shortly after this!

It's OPTIONAL to improve the frequency drift on the 590 in todays market? Insanity. I was getting quite interested in it until then. I'm currently looking for reasons to not get the FTDX10, but not finding any. Good overview of features and things to think about. Damn shame about the frequency drift of the 590 though - I saw it was quite bad in another video (100 Hz or more).

Thx so much for sharing this video on the sbitx! Your rig setup is the 1st one I have seen where someone runs a separate set of wires into the case to power the sbitx. Can you share your experience on powering your sbitx? My TS-180's output died slowly, dropped off over a week or so from ~100w down to maybe 1w. I presume it's a coupling capacitor, when I touch a certain inductor I see full 100w into the Brandon-load, but I'm not sure which coupling cap to replace. I mostly used the 180 through the shortened 11m 5/8 for 10m local traffic & QSOs, and I kept the Pro3 on the 40m/80m inv Vee. I don't have 50kw or a 130' high 12 element Yagi so I steer clear of 20m 😜 Have you any idea if there's a typical coupling capacitor I should begin with replacing? Thank you & 73

I am intrigued. As a linux user. When the digital modes are configured is there a "builtin" audio and serial device that is used? Obviously there isn't anything plugged into the side? Or maybe the Rpi has a pi hat on it that does th audio and PTT? more likely

Yes, the audio and CAT control are done internally. Already having a background in Linux will surely help with this radio. There is a good Facebook page called “sBitx” and also a Groups.io group called “BITX20”. Lots of great people doing some interesting hacking/developing of the SBitx.

The DR-1x's have issues with the PA's. Yaesu bought many of them back or traded for the 2x's They re-did the 1-RX's with new PA's and new Firmware and re-sold them as DR-1x-FR's. My old club bought one of the refurbished ones and it has been a rock solid machine with it connected to the America Link 24/7 and a solid performer. The biggest thing they did is change their paperwork to say that it is 100% duty cycle at 25 watts as opposed to 50 watts that they had on the original issues. We ran that one at 25 watts and no issues.
