Hi, thanks for the game, it was intense:) Can you list the decks you played?
Love these gameplay vids to death, thanks
Great video! Love this game
Me too!
Feel like Toms really pulled the wool over the tables eyes here... If they had given Teylen even just one more turn to bleed into him and actually do something rather than recuperate from all the slapping back he was doing, it would have been a very different game.
Hi there, could I ask what platform you're playing this on. Trying to get into the game online but can't find a decent place to play.
We play using a combination of a program called LackeyCCG and voice is done over Discord voice chat.
@@heysteev Awesome, thanks! I'll have to check it out
Bonus points for the guy with the "attempted murder" joke
If you don't want to play an actual CCG with a manipulative and unfriendly business model, there are not that many choices for card games of this style. I like Epic Card Game though (for drafting), so I recommend that. My friends like it way more than VTES. I would pretty much need to find another playgroup if I wanted to play VTES (which I do).
@@lastburning Manipulative and unfriendly business model? From what I can tell they are basically doing the LCG model, but releasing the cards as playable decks instead of bundled unrelated kits. I think for a company that is essentially trying to build startup capital, this method is good. I am glad you like Epic. However, overall the concensus about Epic from most people is that it is underwhelming. I personally haven't tried it yet, though I am planning to in the very near future. Mechanically though I think it will like pale in comparison for me. I am sorry your playgroup doesn't seem to like VTES, though, which seems maybe like the root of your comment. If they felt it was cost prohibitive you could remind them that they can proxy legally. Additionally you can still buy piles of cards for the game for dirt cheap. You could also try V5 as opposed to Elder as your format. That way the cards that can't be reprinted due to some issues with Paradox aren't an issue.
Nice couple of barons you have there. Shame if they couldn't do anything. Lets grandball get bleeds through
@@xMasterCasperx Yeah, it is definitely going to help push Torries into a much more playable position.
Awesome game, rare to see some V5 Tzimi action!
I love this deck
Is there a part 2 to see how it ends?
No, when a game goes to time, that is the end, players still in the game get .5 VPs, and who ever has the most VPs is the winner otherwise it is a tie.
thanks for the great gameplay
Business Pressure. Good for superior presence users with huge pools. You burn for 2, I burn for 3. It's a losing battle for you. With the superior version, you basically win every vote if you have the pool and are able to spend it. Also if you could clarify: I haven't played since the 90s and am looking to get back into the game. I have "Pulled Fangs" from the original set. If I run it, does it operate as the new version text or the old version?
All cards which have recieved errata are played with their current text only - so the old text on Pulled Fangs is "gone" and substituted :)
Is there a reason you didn't take the action to make Matthew anarch?
It was a long time ago, but I believe the reasoning was that Matthew is not able to survive if I get blocked and my prey is aware of how the deck works so I figure the better strategy is to just use Matthew as a passive pool gain mechanism until I get a window.
top content come joins us on lackey so we can play more game !
Thanks for the positive feedback. I am hoping to get back into more games on Lackey, but I have been dealing with a lot of stuff right now and until that fades down, Lackey has had to sit on the back burner. Hopefully that will change soon though.
What a strange game. The Brutal Influence was insane.
Hey Steev, you did not pay for the rescue at the 51 min mark unless I missed something really important ;)
Yup, you're right. I made a mistake. I the end I don't really think it changed much though.
32:47 As you know, the wax seal is merely decorative. It's confusing as hell though.

Maybe the blood sorcery in Tzi crypt was an attempt to introduce koldunic sorcery from fluff.
I had never heard of this before, but reading up on it that makes sense. However, I do wonder if it was removed because of balance. I think it would have been cool to see some Pro/BS cards that represented the Koldunic stuff. Or maybe clan specific Tzi BS cards. I really do hope they get to reach deeper into the game as it goes on.
Finally a new episode! <3
Thanks, we had a hard time getting our timing synced up and I wanted to make sure it was a safe enough distance from the actual leak that people got a chance to actually play the cards before everyone just devolved into "it should've been"s
thanks! :)
Do you ever link to decklists for these videos? Been working on a anti-Nos deck, but its bad and so was wondering what list player 3 had.
Only sometimes, not everyone is willing to share decklists, and some of these games are not scheduled with people who stick around long enough to ask.
Very interesting game. I myself love playing spell of life decks, and i find adding cry wolf really good idea. I supose i will take off my reactions and let the hard mode do the job. It is a play that i couldn t understand, though. In the late game, Ministry player plays what seemed me a Entrancement for a 2 bleed and after that he locks all his mummies. I thought they where bleeds also, but i didn t see steeves pool moving. Is there' somos mistake? Thanks for the content
Player 3 had left the game prematurely, so he became a pile of pool on TBD player 3 marker. Then Ttwards the end of the game Karl was rushing Salvador, not bleeding me with many of his mummies. I had drawn a ton of dodges for Sal to play. He also was stealing the power add each turn. From what I can see watching the game, every announced bleed that was successful I lost the pool for.
Sure! I forgot the player who left.... Thanks for the quick answer and for your videos. It s a good way to learn besides actually playing myself.
Not the deck i was trying to find but I do like this deck!
21:40 vdb says "After this round, begin another combat with the opposing minion."
As someone new to Vtes, any chance you could do a newbie guide to deck building?
I've been trying to figure out a video like this for a little while now. I am hoping to have something like this in the not too distant future.
Cool, I know id appreciate it. Things like deck types, balance and generally how do you get a deck to work. Especially the more complex or unique decks.
I didn't quite understand Karl's decision to commit suicide... It's clear that he had no options, but giving his predator a turn seems quite useless as well as dirty.
I like this format. As a recent player I like that you play with the same cards I have. It makes that easier to follow. 😊
I wish it was easier to see which pool total belonged to which player. It doesn't help that people use different names than the screen names when talking. Edit: Oh wow. You changed it later in the video. Nice.
Yeah, I was trying to think of a clean way to do it, and I looked at one of the other people streaming it, WODNews on twitch, and I partially liked what they did, so I modified it to fit my layout preference.
Wait this game still exists and there are new cards for it? Where/ how can I buy them and play?
yeah, it is in print again and all major clans are getting new decks (or have gotten them already). They are published by Black Chantry Productions - you'll find more info on their website (blackchantry.com) :)
Holy crap, how many Diversion do you play? At one point you have 5 in hand, discard one at the end of your turn and then draw another. absolutely wild.
Hahaha! This deck was an experiment in Diversion. He boasted 15 Diversions. Maybe a little too much, but Diversion is insanely versatile in combat. So the experiment here was does that versatility translate into a form of advantage. I think 12 is probably more correct. Though that sounds like a lot, it's very rare that I am unhappy to have 2 of these in my hand.
Thanks for bringing this to a wider audience! see you on the Discord, and on the forums!
As a long time mtg player I find Ice Age mtg cards easier to read than some Vtes cards.
That is quite an insult to the cards. Don't forget to give your feedback about it on the VEKN forums using the link in the video description.
Más claro no lo has podido decir y con toda la razón.
Gracias!
I agree
Agreed! VTES cards are often comically difficult to parse. I'm a newer player and it's clear that VTES hasn't received the same extra development/optimization as MtG for example.
If you haven't already, please support this initiative, by responding to the VEKN forum post linked in the video description.
Totally agree. I’m not a old player. I love this game but cards are often too very difficult to read and to explain to non initiated players.
If you haven't already, please support this initiative, by responding to the VEKN forum post linked in the video description.
Nice of you to return with the videos. Keep them coming!
Thanks, we're trying to work out new scheduling and Jan and I have a podcast episode coming soon. I've also been working on a big project I had to keep secret for a very long time. Planning to release it by the end of the month.
Fluff and flavor are for casuals. Best players abstract the game into its mechanical parts. It's true in every game. I used to play MtG for many years without ever thinking about the lore or whatever. I never read flavor texts. On another note, favor texts are a lazy way to add theme anyway. The theme/flavor should come across in the game's mechanics.
An important thing to think about though, Magic the Gathering doesn't survive on "sub-pro" players. The bulk of card sales are based on having a steady secondary market of cards. Large stores that sell mass singles are in a perpetual need to survive. Look at the value of opening a box of new boosters of MTG. Notice something? Somehow the average value per box is below the cost of the box and not just the consumer cost, the distribution cost. But why? How? Casual players buy boxes, collector boosters, and fluff. They buy Secret Lairs and 30th Anniversary Proxy sets. Then they make it available to "sub-pros" because they don't want to play with broken cards or they'd rather use the $30 they can sell a single card for to buy more boosters. Casuals are the life blood of a card came. Fluff and Flavor are what keeps a game alive. Sure, you need a competitive scene to make those higher value cards hold their value, but it's a much smaller market. If you lost the casuals, you'd lose the plot. Don't want to believe it, look at the model for Pokemon. Top tier play is a joke, but the game thrives. Because children have similar buying habits to what some would call casual. They open a high dollar GX and they sell it for more boosters filled with jank. Also, the best players don't merely break things down to their mechanical parts. If that was true there are a great deal of games they could play otherwise. The best Magic players respect the casual community and love the flavor of Magic. They teach as much as they learn. They spread the game with their play and communication. A true pro knows they only exist because there are others building the pyramid.
1:30:49 He unlocked with Bait and Switch.
Good catch.
Would it be possible to post the decks on the description section of the videos? I think it would be great for player to have them in order to explore different strategies.
We've been trying to get better about this when we can, but sometimes in this scenarios we don't end up getting them. I'll try to push harder in future videos.
Sure! It was a suggestion from a great admirer of the work you do. Keep them going and thanks a lot!@@heysteev
Would definitely be more interesting if Brujah didn't sit next to each other :P
His accent plus the bad audio quality makes this difficult to understand.
We've been working on that, a lot. Jan got a new mic which helped with the episode that follows this one. A lot of the quality stems from how much work often went in to making Jan audible.
Really want to listen to all these but the other persons mic has so much echo and poor quality that I’m only getting half the conversation.
This gets resolved in later episodes, and is much better outside of UA-cam, I did not account well for how much compression actually diminishes the volume on here.
Is there a way to see deck lists at all? Interested in the breakdown in the baali crypt for the prince / varon split. :)
I would love to play with you guys. I love this game. Let’s go!
I started playing V:TES back in 2013. It was love at first sight. Not long after, our local community collapsed and I had to shift from a "player logic" to a "collector" one. Less than a month ago, we were able to woke again from torpor and we even found other local communities near us. So glad I have found this channel. Keep the contents up, you're doing great ^^
Overall, I'm agreeing with you guys, in general. I think the expansion offers very few opportunities to be complained about (outside of "everything was better back then" kind ones). - Almost every card got better after the last round of testing and a lot of textless vampires got texts, so that's a really welcome change towards the general complaint that was pretty much was a staple towards previous sets being "crypts are bland and vanilla". - Visions of Z. was one of the 'shatterpoint' cards of the set (for me at least): the fact that it remained non-locked to a single clan AND got buffed even further made me smile for a day. It will open up old crypts and quite a few that was never truly viable ever before. - I cannot really imagine Tzimisce and Salubri being bad, not with what they are capable of, but I'm definitely concerned about Protean in general and Anarch as a fact (still). Ravnos....well, they are gonna be 'OK' for sure, maybe just a little bland and 1 dimensional. - The quality of artworks are much better overall than any expansion prior, hands down; even the artist that are hit-or-miss usually brought their better selves so far. - These decks will sell very very well, very nicely constructed with good number of new cards in almost every case. I don't think buying more than 3 of anything is not a necessity, which is great.
What expansions does the V5 only format cover?
V5, V5Anarchs, New Blood, Fall of London, Shadows of Berlin, New New Blood, Promo Pack 2 (excluding Una & Black Metamorphosis), Promo Pack 3, Anarch Convert, Charisma, Fee Stake: Corte, Fee Stake LA, Fee Stake: Perth, Archon Investigation, and all other Promotional Group 6&7 Vampires
@@heysteev So Gehenna is not covered?
@@eintheoverlord4997 It is not. You can identify what will be a part of it by going to the Black Chantry website and looking at all the products listed in the Fifth Edition section of their products.
@@heysteev regarding promos, is tribute to the master, mythic form legal?
@@eintheoverlord4997 Neither of those cards were printed in a set following the Fifth Edition starter set. Only the sets listed on the BCP Website under Fifth Edition are considered legal in V5.
IMHO, this deck need the Guardians - they have CEL, usable with Dust Up (once you convert one), cost less, and do not care about stealth. Just curious, but what are Daria and Horace even supposed to accomplish in this deck (other than padding the crypt)? Also, no Dreams? They are in V5 and are bonkers OP. To me it seems that every single VTES deck in existence should play at least one, if only to contest it, and I play 2 or 3 regularly because I can. Or until the card finally gets nerfed one day 🙂 Finally, how is V5 defined exactly at this time? A bunch of Barons are from promo packs only, as is G7 Victoria and friends. That makes them hard to see in VDB Limited Format mode unless you add them one by one to the allowed list. SoB is apparently in but does that count Weirich? Is DI in as it has a reprint available on PoD to all? Is there perhaps a config file for VDB somewhere listing all V5-legal cards regardless of how they got there? Cheers
Let's take the questions carefully... Guardian was an oversight. I definitely agree it would be a good add. Daria is there to get slurped of her blood and then act as a Location for bonus stealth when needed. Horace could probably be a Guardian instead though. I hate dreams for exactly the reason you stated. Everyone plays it and so it is reaching the point that it is consistently contested even across table. I've made plenty of finals without playing it, and I've watched plenty of people lose finals because they play it. It's not for me, I don't deny it's strong, but that's part of the problem. I have posted for the last 3 tournaments a config file for limited mode in VDB on the BCP discord, as well as a video walking people through how they can edit it. Also, in our podcast with Hugh, he confirmed that the choices we made were correct with the addition of one card we weren't sure about. Our list on the BCP discord is the most accurate list and is easily imported using the video using VDB and can have you up and running to build a deck in less than 1 minute.
@@heysteev Okay, cool. The thing with Dreams in V5 is that they are essential for stability, acceleration, and to balance out the limited card pool V5 will have for a while still. If people in my group played V5, I'd think about not using them all the time but that's hardly an option if I want to compete with high-powered archetypes from 20 years ago... Where can I find the file though? I looked through the Resources and several other channels but my cursory search yielded nothing :-X Better yet perhaps, since V5 shall be a staple combination of products and cards for years to come, could the file be part of the VDB repo directly and be used as a preset in the UI? The only thing needed would be to update it with new packs and separate cards as they are released, and it would work for everyone. What do you think? Cheers
The Dreams argument to me seems just entirely narrow and false. The deck that won yesterday's event did not play any Dreams of the Sphinx. It really starts to feel exhausting the number of times people say "V5 has to..." or "V5 doesn't..." and then state things based not on the present but on a history. However, they are still often even mistaken in this point. More decks have won tournaments without playing Dreams, than have won with them in the last 2 years alone. I cannot put links in UA-cam anymore, but if you go to the discord and go to official BCP Discord and go to Upcoming-Events, and find the event from yesterday, you will see a fully downloadable text file that can be imported into VDB which will allow you to configure your VDB's limited mode to the current V5 format. Smeea is not willing to do anything Official for V5 until it is BCP Official, in the mean time I am updating the list every time the sets release so we can continue to have events for players that want to play test the format in all of it's stages.
@@heysteev Was it a V5 event though? My stance on the Dreams is mostly about playing a V5 deck amongst legacy decks... But also consider your take on the Mithras deck. I think V5 alone is way too fast to play Mithras without acceleration. Unless I'm missing something, V5 only has the Highway, Montreal, and... the Dreams, which seem to be the best option of them all. So until we get the Valley into V5, playing an 11-cap is a risky proposition without acceleration. I also want the card nerfed but if the powers that be don't see it as an issue, might as well just (ab)use the heck out of it until they do :-) Found the file, thank you - that's one channel I did not look at... Any reason to have the SoB cards in the allowed list redundantly? Weirich also being there is most curious to me - do you think there's a chance of more vamps from G3 or G4 to be in V5 at some point? I also noticed the Fee Stakes that do not mention antitribu on the list despite them being part of EoG - is that a hint of them coming soon in the upcoming precons as well ;-) ?
Yes, it was a V5 event, that was my point. Sorry, if you had a different point, but your statement was literally "Dreams in V5... are essential" I acknowledged that Mithras is likely not ready for prime time, but one of the final 5 decks was running Queen Anne successfully, which, seating dependent, is basically as hard to play as Mithras. It's not redundant. It is literally a V5 set. I refer again to the podcast we did with Hugh where he elaborates on what cards will be legal in V5 and what the likelihood is for certain reprints of things.
