What/where is the cemetery that is featured at the end? Ive been to Normandy cemeteries (US, German and British) and also the Somme (German and British).

In Scotland we still call it "The auld alliance" ,which bonded(sometimes not always well it must be noted)Scotland and the nation of France from 1296 till(various dates can be picked)at least 1759.Our great grandfather's were glad to defend France in 1914 and our grandfather's (im 44) in 1940.

The film is not so good. The amount of artillery used at Verdun was exceptionally large. Over head photos show a transformation of the landscape into a moon scape. Whole train loads of artillery shells went there to be fired every few days. Often the trenches were un-reinforced bare earth. You shit and ate in your trench, no where safe to go.

Sympathique initiative. Mais tout de même: le gradé qui monte à l'assaut en tirant devant lui au pistolet ou encore la scène où le pt'it gars vide son chargeur entourés de cadavres à peine abimés. Le réalisateur aurait gagné à lire "Ceux de 14" de Maurice Genevoix et plus encore "témoins" de Jean Norton Cru. Car sans une farouche volonté de coller au plus prés des réalités de cette guerre un véritable hommage ne peut être rendu. La construction des mythes qui ont été fabriqués par des auteurs comme Henri Barbusse ou Jacques Péricard contribuent encore aujourd'hui à nommer "héros" des personnes qui pour la plus part d'entre elles n'ont été que des victimes.

IIs étaient les "têtes de pont" de leurs familles restées au village ou le déshonneur était socialement aussi mortel qu'une balle. Alors non, ils n'étaient pas de courageux inconscients mais des hommes en plein doute, hébétés par les horreurs quotidiennes, décérébrés par la propagande infame du lobby militaro-industriel( des deux cotés du reste) qui lui, bien à l'abri à l'arrière, engrangeait des profits records et comptait les points.

My grandfather William was born in 1887. He has runned on many battlefields of the italian front, from Isonzo to Piave. Alpini Fiamme Verdi, he was a survivor. Rip.

'Paths of Glory', a 1957 film starring Kirk Douglas, was banned in France at the time. Great movie! Recommend! You can see some of the scenes were borrowed from that film. 👍

I applaud your efforts at telling this story. But I don't think it's cinamaticly possible to tell the story or Verdun . The desperation terror and slaughter was so great I don't think we would want to see it as it truly was. No slam on your film excellent job.

I see why the French got massacred during WWI, those bright blue uniforms hard to miss. You would think that with all those technological advances made during that time, someone would suggest that more neutral colors would maybe help reduce battlefield mortality rates.
