Hey! A tray of water could boost the humidity, but I believe having the substrate inside the egg box at a high level of moisture would be ideal.

Hey Ricky! From what I understand, humidity needs to be maintained at a relatively high level. There are different ways to incubate eggs, using different containers and different substrate in the egg boxes. Of course, my incubator may be different from others, but really just keep an eye on the eggs and make sure they are not dimpling (starting to look deflated) early in the incubation process. If they do start to dimple early (more than a couple of weeks before the hatch date), then adding moisture to the substrate in the container should up the humidity and the eggs should start to plump back up. I hope I was able to help!

@@wdwilson9 awesome man thanks. I’m years away from getting one don’t even own a ball python yet 😆 but I plan on getting my rack soon then I’ll start looking at animals. What rack do you recommend? It will probably be c serpents. Was thinking the v-28, but don’t know if that’s too big for the animals I’ll be getting. I just know I don’t want to get another rack everytime they grow a bit. If I can get one to house them for life that would be nice

@@RickyGIII The PVC cages you mentioned are great to start off with, regardless of the size of ball python you purchase. They are relatively inexpensive and light weight, so they are easy to move around if need be. There are several retailers that carry great products. The better vendors should have a comment in the product description on the ideal size rack for the current size snake you plan on housing. Usually they are listed as a weight, in grams. For example, one rack would be ideal for hatchlings up to 750g, and another could house snakes 750-2500 grams or so. Babies are typically less expensive than adults when purchasing, but if you want to get a larger animal to start out with, just note that you could need a larger rack sooner than expected. Just keep that in mind. There are a number of reputable breeders on a large scale that offer a range of color mutations at different weights for a great price. Some may offer a payment plan for you as well. I would say have a look around at what animals are available, and purchase the housing and thermostat and get it setup before actually purchasing the animal(s). I hope this helps.
