the Mississauga Latin Festival has been, for 16 years, a bridge connecting the best of Latin American culture with other communities in Canada.
On August 6, 2024, we kicked off our opening ceremony at Mississauga’s City Hall-a magical evening that marked the celebration of 16 years of the Mississauga Latin Festival and the 50th anniversary of the City of Mississauga.
We were honored to hear from Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who highlighted the value of diversity that defines our city. She acknowledged the vision of our organization and celebrated the dedication and effort of the entire team behind the festival.
We were also graced by the presence of Mr. Peter Fonseca, Member of Parliament for Mississauga East-Cooksville, who reflected on how a shared vision with the festival’s founder and director, Isabel Cuéllar, turned into reality: a festival that unites the Latin community and celebrates our culture here in Mississauga.
Our Gold Sponsor, Angelica Hoyos, CEO of Lenpanada, shared her pride and excitement about being part of this vibrant celebration, inviting everyone to savor her unique, flavorful empanadas.
The evening sparkled with folkloric performances from Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina, transporting us to the most colorful corners of Latin America. Special guests enjoyed exquisite Latin American dishes, a red carpet experience, and unforgettable highlights like 360-degree video moments.
The night ended on a high note with a spectacular performance by Tropicana Orchestra, leaving an energetic vibe that set the tone for the festival days ahead.
On August 9, 10, and 11, Celebration Square in Mississauga became the epicentre of Latin American culture. Thousands of attendees came together to enjoy folkloric performances, DJs, dance classes, traditional food, artisanal crafts, and a special kids’ zone. Each night ended with the lively rhythms of our orchestras, and the festival reached its grand finale with the magnificent Latin American parade on Sunday, August 11.
This 2024 edition was a testament to the cultural impact we share year after year in this welcoming city.
