Recovery feels wrong!
"Recovery is just not for me, it feels so wrong!" - This is a sentence I've heard from so may people already. In fact, this is something I used to think as well. Here's why you should NOT give up now, because you might be closer than you think.

I miss my Eating Disorder - what to do when you feel stuck in recovery
Переглядів 15912 годин тому
„I miss being sick/skinny/ill…“ - a sentence I hear a lot from my clients. I did go through the same in my recovery. There was a time when I felt like recovery made everything worse, it wouldn’t work for me and I just missed being sick. But eventually, my brain rewired and I was able to see things a bit more positive. And over time, the wish to be healthy became stronger and stronger and I fina...
Rest and Recovery: Why Taking a Break is Key to Healing from an Eating Disorder

Hi Malin! I really liked this video. I have gained a certain amount of weight over the last years in recovery and sometimes miss my old body and life. Sometimes I feel like it is hard for me to find new ways to fill all the space my ED used to take as well (I know it sounds crazy as I have a rather bush life already..). Your video reminded me of how miserable I used to feel and how obsessed I was with my looks and food. I was also super anxious all the time. Now I live in a bigger body but life has so much more flavour and I feel so many more positive emotions. I am also feeling a lot less anxious and a lot more authentic. I really love your content and your videos help me on a daily basis! You are super positive and you explain things super well. Have a lovely week-end Malin! Laura from Paris x
Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your story 🩵 sometimes we need these reminders! I’m gonna make a video about fading affect bias soon, it might also help to remember why you chose recovery in the first place 🩵 I am also working on a recovery workbook atm, it’ll be available on Etsy soon 😊

Nailed it! Body checking everywhere - glass doors, the freezer section at the grocery store, mirrors, car windows, our Ring camera… 🙄🙄🙄 never even realized I was doing it. Didn’t know it was a bad thing because I had lived with it for so long and I thought it was okay because I wasn’t obsessed with the scale. Once I realized what I was doing, it’s been one of the hardest parts of recovery because it’s been so ingrained into who I was and I’ve been using body checking as an emotional regulator for DECADES. Rewiring is a struggle but it’s working slowly 😊
@@meganhand5478 that’s so spot on! A lot of people actually don’t even realize that they’re doing it because it becomes so regular. I’m so glad to hear that it’s getting better!!’ 🫶🏽🫶🏽
Great advice! When I started in May, I took 3 months off of everything. I only started walking again this fall when I really felt good enough. And still I take breaks. I never thought I was over exercising before, but I did feel guilty when I’d stop. Now I do not. I’m just adding a little strength training and feeling my muscles come back online is huge! I lifted a basket of laundry the other day and thought man that wasn’t nearly as hard as it used to be 😂 we need muscle for practical tasks and that’s my aim. I’m a runner and not running is still heartbreaking, but I’m taking a full year off that and we’ll see where we go from there. Thanks, Malin!
@@meganhand5478 thank you! And I agree - it is really hard but so worth it. I’m glad to hear that you make steps towards getting stronger and that you can appreciate them! That’s so precious 🩵😊

Really need advice and guidance right now how to get out of a relapse.. it all got too scary and uncomfortable so i turned backward but how does one get past that really challenging point?? My hope is not great atm 😔
SAME 😔
to both of you, @rafaeleduardocruzguadarram2570, @louisebarber3503: First of all, I am very sorry to hear that. Recovery is such a challenging thing to do and it can be so hard to stick with it. But I want both of you to think of your ultimate goal (what would a recovered life look like, what would change - dream big, nothing is impossible!) and of your WHY (why do you want that recovered life so much? what do you want to let go of?). Once you have that clear, write it down. Now you know, that there is only ONE way for you. Sticking with the ED is not an option, because it will not make you happy, it won't allow you to fully heal and live your life. When I was in recovery, my coach told me: "You're at the point of no return. Going back is not an option". That felt a bit scary, but also super relieving - because deep down I didn't want to go back, it was just too hurtful. I still struggled a lot with my changing body after this point, but I also told myself that my body and brain need time. It takes time to get used to changes, it takes time for the brain to re-learn healthy habits and beliefs and it takes time for the weight to feel normal again, to redistribute etc. If you keep going back and forth, you will hurt yourself forever. If you chose recovery every day, it will still be hard, but eventually you will feel so much better. One more thing: It can be hard to be proud for choosing recovery when the ED is still so loud. But after being recovered, you will feel stronger than ever, because this is an achievement that no one can take away from you!
🥰🥰🥰i‘m so proud of you!!!
