In this day and Age Using Harddrives is the Equivalent of watching Movies on VCRs 😅 . Use SSds . Sad story tho😢

Last year I lost my drive of basically all the creative stuff I have done since I was 14 maybe. (in my later 30s now). I was able to recover like 5% from other drives. The drive actually failed during a backup routine. I know the feeling. But I also know deep inside that if I have made it once I can do it better next time!

having everything in just one hard drive without backups in at least a couple of other ones is always a big no no make it a habit to make backups and always update the copies with every major progress sometimes even little ones in case something goes wrong maybe some data could still be salvaged if you have it checked by an HDD specialist, there's cases where investigations still manage to get evidence from disposed HDDs that are heavily damaged, though it could be very expensive

I lost 10 years of work and my real work industry portfolio. When my computer crashed after fleeing an unsafe environment. Couldn’t get a job in the field. It has taken me another 10 years working three jobs at times while raising children as a single mother just to afford a new industry standard computer. Starting over from scratch is one thing when you no longer have the time. What are dreams and ambitions when there are more than just battles and wars over what you want to do with your life. I’m glad that you are able still do what you want to do. The cards are not there for me.

sorry that happened to you. I had lost 113gb or 3yrs of music before. Backing up is important. Though I admit, In some ways, I've adapted to things I didn't think of before.

I am so so sorry for your loss! I'm sure you've looked into plenty of backup options already but in case you're looking for an extra layer of peace of mind on top of Clip's cloud backup and one more artist's endorsement might be helpful, I've been using Backblaze for a few years now with no complaints. Good price, tons of storage space, supports multiple drives on one subscription, and file versions are included in case you accidentally delete something important. Years back I lost some writing I'd done that I'd been really happy with due to crappy file syncing, and my writer buddy said something really simple but that's stuck with me ever since: "You ALWAYS write it better the second time." The same goes for visual art. It doesn't make the loss sting any less, but given all you've learned over the course of four chapters, you'll absolutely draw it better the second time. Best of luck with your project and thank you for sharing this, it's so important to get the word out about backing up important data!

I am so sorry this happened to you! As an artist, and writer, this is my worst nightmare.... I haven't ever dealt with data loss on that scale, but I do have experiences with destroyed hard drives in the past and it convinced me to switch over to only using SSD's. I don't recommend dropping those either LOL but they are a lot more sturdy and less prone to failure overall.

So sorry to hear about your data loss😭im glad it is fueling you to go even harder. I just read chapter 4 and i must say, it was really good! One of the golden principles of good manga is having good characters and i liked pretty much all of them! Just got a new subcriber and a new fan of Ye olde treehouse. Cant wait to read the other chapters to see how the story starts.

I kmow that feeling too well I remember I lost my artwork due to me forgetting my HDD is dying then it sorry to hear.

When I took my pc to a shop to clone one of my drives, I lost a bunch of work because they didn't listen to me when I told them to keep the stuff on the other one. I took a moment to mourn the loss of my files and knew that it was just time to update my work. I'm glad my professors always told me to back up my work in multiple places because some files I ended up finding duplicated elsewhere. So yes, BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE!

When I started 3d modeling my laptop crashed and my drive refused to boot, I lost all my models and screen recording. I basically gave up on 3d modeling until I'm able to afford a better pc.😞

Oof- that absolutely sucks. Reminds me of when I lost 6 years of work to a power surge/head crash. Considering the severity of the matter, couldn't you have found some kind of professional technician to access/transfer the files?

I post my art to various places and even websites for preservation should something happen to my computer.

If you have no backup, prepare for a F-up; is my life's motto xD Guess how I learned xD BTW it's possible to rescue data from the drive, but it's rather expensive.

That's why I've always saved media onto usb and hard drives. I treat the things I create like classified U.F.O documents. trust no one

Yeah... -Solid State external storage, to mitigate the momentary lapses of judgement outline above. -If you still have the drive a Data Recovery service might be able to salvage it, but such services are not synonymous with cheap. -Accept the Impermanence of All Things.

This is why I have multiple expansion drives. People laughed and thought I was wasting vast amounts of money when purchasing them back in the day before 2020 showed up. Everything ready. Its also why I don´t save everything to the cloud. The cloud is used to write papers which are used later for editing. They are saved on an expansion drive.

Oooooooof. I had that happen also. I’ve heard that if you get an SSD, you’re less likely to have that happen. I got one since but didn’t wanna test it. It’s apparently since it doesn’t physically spin and doesn’t get confused mid-spin.
