      True, on bad snow conditions (icy) - beginners should avoid this. But Samoëns doesn't have any easy slopes beyond their beginners areas, therefore they will stick to this slope being a blue, to attract families and beginners.

    • @justski5046

      andrew percival . If using euro tunnel, fill up in Sainsbury’s in Ashford (fuel is more expensive in France right now), and refuel at the Total service station at Troyes (on the a5, 10270 fresnoy le chateau) by far the cheapest autoroute fuel at 1.58euro a litre, typical prices on the autoroutes are 1.65 to 1.70 a litre. Should have enough fuel to get into samoens and return back to this service ststion on tour way home. The drive into samoens after the hairpin bends at bonneville is tricky in the dark as the road markings are non existent, fine in daylight tho. We parked our cars up and didnt use them for the time we were there, we we 10mins walk from the Blue line ski bus so used that daily. All ski buses terminate at the GE (grand massif express). Outside of school hols, there are minimal queues here. Beer and food in the village is about the same as UK city center prices (£6 a pint, £10 or so for pizza etc). Mountain food and beer is not far off the same. Lots of choice up on the mountains for food, coffee, beer etc. On sunny days, our fave place was the small hut at the rear of the grand massif express for ski beer. But the pub/restaurant immediately left as you get off the gondola was our choice on snowy days when the hut was closed. For beginners, its hard to get to the linked resorts from samoens1600 as you have to head up the tete de saix (which is the central point for routes to morrillon, les carroz and flaine) but from approx 11am the snow on the start of perce neige (blue) gets cut up so might prove tricky for newer skiers to navigate the moguls, get there early tho and the slope is groomed. This green (demoiselles) is imo one of the best greens for advancing learners. Before you take beginners up to tete de saix, get them to try plateau blue first, if they are ok with that then head on up. Right next to plateau blue is plateau red, a very quiet short red that is a good slope to practice carving. Aouei is another blue that is usually in shade on most of its run, so can have ice sections, but another nice quiet slope. Dahu is a must-ski route, but can be busy, the red just after the start of dahu (marmotte) is superb and from this entry point, prob should be a blue. That’s pretty much all of Samoëns 1600, head over to Morillon, either via tete de Saix or via the ski bus from the grand massif express bus station (I think it’s the ligne Blanche or white line for Morillon). Take the gondola, head over to the far right chair lift, (Les esserts) and then to the next chair (bergin) stop off in the restaurant / pub at the top of the chair (a waitress served restaurant, so grab a seat and you’ll be served inside or outside) then have a few runs down marvel (I didn’t record any footage of marvel this year, but it’s a nice long fast green). Some nice long blues there too, but need the sairon chairlift to access those. After Morrillon, I would suggest Les carroz (back to Tete de saix) and ski down the Perce neige blue (a long fast narrow run which, after the top section, is pretty quiet). The blues down in Les carroz are through the forests, very picturesque especially after snow, 'la forestiere' is a nice little hairpin run, give that a go if you head down Les carroz. We tend to avoid Flaine as it is extremely busy on the slopes with large queues for the chairlifts up to Les grands platieres, although the view from up here is breathtaking, with clear views of mont blanc. The cascade run is fun to do, although tiring, but unless there is some significant snow from now until you go, the bottom section may not be skiiable. As for the town of samoens itself, it is not a 'clubbing' town at all, it is quiet and relaxed, there is an outdoor bar in the center we used to go to, (can't miss it) with patio heaters /fire tables, fairly loud music but a nice friendly crowd. There is all the shops you could need there too with a mini supermarket, butchers grocers etc. We used a ski hire company called 'ski higher' they are a mobile based company and come to your door with the gear you need. Two of our party rented skis and they appeared brand new. We particularly like samoens as our ski base, due to the quiet nature of the town (when compared to say Flaine) and availability of shops and supplies etc for self caterers. This was our second year and we are already booked for next year. Hope you have a good trip.

      this video was the 'Sairon' chair lift from Morillon, but you can get to 'Les Chars' via the 'tete de saix' area which is fed via multiple lifts, then go down 'perce niege' then 'l'arette'. Have a good trip.

      We've been 4 or 5 times, but last year and this year we are French alps. Still have a love for Borovets, and will probably go back there in the next few years. Even now, sometimes, in the UK, i'll catch the smell of somone with a wood burner, burning logs, and combined with freezing air (at this time of year) i'm immediately taken back to Borovets. When you get there, you'll know what i mean. Have a great trip and enjoy yourselves. (I still check the snow reports, and right now, there is snow cover already up at Markudjik (the top ski area via the gondola)).

    To get from haramia to the bottom of the gondola, there is only 3 reds and 1 black. But You can ski down popangelov 1/4 of the way, it is a red, but the top bit is not too difficult, there is then a traverse through the the trees across yastrabets 1, this is also red but from the traverse, it's not too difficult, there is another traverse through the trees to the bottom of fonfon, this is the midway station for the gondola, take the gondola back down. Look out for the gondola signs. The bottom of yastrabets 1 and yastrabets 3 and popangelov are tricky for a beginner, v steep at the bottom.

    @artmasterpl 5 років тому

    hi, how to go from the end of haramia ? On the map, there is only red(popangelov) and black(fonton) run is there any blue run or lifts to the top again? Because I'm just beginner and not sure if I can go there?
