CABBI Greenhouse Stable Isotope Facility
A new greenhouse custom-designed to support research at the Center for Advanced Bioenergy and Bioproducts Innovation (CABBI) is now open at the University of Illinois Research Park.
The Plant Biology Innovation Greenhouse (PBIG) features unique cutting-edge capabilities that are already benefiting plant and microbial science researchers on the U. of I. campus. This video highlights the brand new state of the art stable isotope labeling facility and growth chambers.
In the mirror-lined growth chambers, mature sorghum plants were recently harvested from sealed plexiglass containers where they received water, light, and fertilizer for growth. The plants’ roots, leaves, and stems were examined to study their physiological traits and metabolites, microbial composition, and belowground carbon and nutrient dynamics. This initial study tested procedures for detecting differences in plant tissue metabolite profiles for future work comparing wild-type and oil-accumulating sorghum.
Researchers are already planting new sorghum seeds, to be fed isotopically labeled carbon dioxide. This will allow CABBI to explore carbon fluxes in crops, investigate linkages between plant-soil-microbial interactions and carbon fluxes, and gain an understanding of specific metabolic pathways of bioenergy crops - all to identify potential opportunities for crop improvement.

    Also, it is incorrect to state that e-truck cost is prohibitively high. The ROI on the Tesla semi is about 2 years and charging is about 1.5 hours. Charging can be done while unloading and/or reloading the trailer.

Why don't you just stay in your cubicle at MIT and study it quietly. You just drove me into that "I don't want to buy an EV camp" by your attitude. You would think that someone supposedly as intelligent about climate and statistics as Mr Hansen would know that you can’t use bell curves on multi variable complex systems. This man is an embarrassment to climate science and has entirely to much influence. We are in trouble especially if we have someone like Mr. Hansen misrepresenting climate information.

    Market this, market that... A good place to start is Nate Hagen's (The Great Simplification) which is an aggregation of expertise in an array of sciences and professions. It is an effort to gain a macro understanding of all of the existential threats that are coming to a singularity in our lifetimes. And Daniel Schmachtenberger systems based understanding of objective reality are the best places to start to look for solutions. Global overshoot is the at the core of our problems. The Market is not going to get us out of this mess.

    Of the 1,609 scientists who have signed the declaration, two signatories are Nobel Prize laureates. The most recent to sign is Nobel Prize winner Dr. John F. Clauser, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics. In an announcement from CLINTEL, Clauser is quoted as saying “Misguided climate science has metastasized into massive shock-journalistic pseudoscience. In turn, the pseudoscience has become a scapegoat for a wide variety of other unrelated ills. It has been promoted and extended by similarly misguided business marketing agents, politicians, journalists, government agencies, and environmentalists.”

    I was trying to really hard to go along with James Hanson on his pro nuclear stance. I’ve been anti-nuclear all my life so that was quite a leap for me. Then he said “let the market and the utilities decide“. That is how we got in this mess in the first place! we let the oil companies who run the market, ruin the planet! Maybe nuclear is OK on a very limited basis since we have to figure out how to store the waste somewhere. Japan right now is trying to dump their waste nuclear water from Fukushima into the ocean. Sorry, Mr. Hanson, nuclear is not a benign technology.

    • @chrisruss9861
      @chrisruss9861 11 місяців тому

      The waste is pretty diluted, is it not? We have a lot of radiation exposure from other sources, natural and unnatural. I have viewed footage of undersea life where nuclear tests were conducted for decades. Where humans are not allowed in these so called toxic zones life thrives. It is of course not pleasing that the Japan accident was not averted.

    For four years now polo illinois farmers have only grown corn and although I have no proof they seem to have switched to a cheaper crappier seed as of slight less than four years ago because polo has been infested with northern corn rootworm beetles. Before four years ago I've gone over 20 years without even knowing what these things were because I've never seen them. Now every year they are back with greater numbers. These farmers refuse to do crop rotation(I'm guessing they aren't trying to be organic and don't care about pest populations because out of four years I've only seen them plane spray once). Everyone I talk to seem to not even know what northern corn rootworm beetles are. Those things are the most destructive pest I've ever seen. They destroy FAR MORE than just corn so I'm unsure why they are named as they are. They should be named GREEN DEVILS.

    ZERO, Co 2 a trace gas, statistically it's amt is so small you'd be correct to say there is none in our atmosphere. The oceans produce nearly all of that trace (0.00036 by vol) Amt. If it were a planet warmer, logic would dictate you'd look there first. But no one looks there at all. Nope it's solely man and cow farts responsible, even though we produce trace amts of the tiny trace amt. What then should become apparent is this ain't about global warming. It's paidfor political propaganda, seeking more taxes, wealth re-distribution and liberties lost. Tipping buckets, heating jars, phoney factoid charts are all war ning signs of the rabid fraud contained in all these political paid for productions. Why would anyone use such presentations like tippy shit, hot jars and these phoney charts? If it's global warming let's compare worlds. One with nearly 100% co2 atmosphere, say Mars . Certainly th is will make warming predictions easy as pie, no need to be wrong 100% of the time, like now. Mars well It's over heated to -80 to -200 on average. Toasty. If were at a " tipping pt " it's we're about to wipe out all plant life by starving them of their life sustaining co2. So that a few politicians have trillions to spend and more control of your life

    What a load of clap-trap, anthropomorphic contributions to climate change is minimal at best, I would suggest all who doubt this to study paleoclimate over the last 12k years, and you will find periods where global temperatures were past the projected 'crisis point' of the current hysteria and you will find that we are still here, the planet is still here. If you want to know what a real climate crisis looks like, check out the Younger Dryas climate disaster which lasted 1.5k years. All climate models are fatally flawed, and are worth crap. To base this world wide hysteria on FLAWED models is lunacy.
