We dont have people like these characters nowadays apart fr one, Stephen. lol But i must say something which is true about this novel, the blood relation for the English, is stronger than we believe they are.

what a stupid ending, so disappointed. May be not all classic is great. The only excuse I find is that women writers were still exploring writing. Having such a character she would not have fallen for such a shallow guy. It had nothing to do with love, just lack of purpose and lizard brain. So frustrating. Such deep people like brother and sister would have been protected and have a meaningful life. It would have been more realistic. Making them die like that just cos it is romantic -such non-sense!

On this planet, too many of us suffer and have destroyed lives or even lose theirs because of dimwitted oafs ruling over us.

Well, I have watched two British movies and both had bad/sad endings. Perhaps I will give up on watching any more.

Such gravitating music and cinematography. They just doesn't make movies like these anymore. Just full of CGI.

SO many commenters are unsatisfied by the ending. Not to give anything away but one excellent suggestion is to read the Wikipedia page on The Mill on The Floss. This movie changed the meaning of the ending and I find it significantly different from the original intent which is much better of course.

Many years ago, when I read this book and its ending, I was so shocked, I threw it in the bin. I wondered what it was all for. Now I realise that not all lives have a fairy-tale ending. Scenery, costumes, acting and direction were superb
