In March 2023, snow falls over the small Welsh village of Beguildy just as the lambing season is getting into full swing. Watch as this small community deals with the elements in this short documentary.

This is the original, longer version of the video with Farms Bemand, filmed last autumn. The shorter video got quite a positive reaction, so here it is - the extended cut. Since he only makes it once a year, this will have to do for the time being. I'm thinking about giving him another visit this autumn. It's not far off now...

This is my short documentary about a family farm and the memories surrounding it. The film touches upon different forms of memory and the ways in which our own identities are shaped by where we (and our families) originated. My instagram: @bobbymore11 My email address: barnaby-omar@hotmail.co.uk

Glynn 'Farms' Bemand makes perry and cider on his farm in Herefordshire the old fashioned way. See for yourself how it's done!

    Thank you for posting this video. Now that the election results are out, did you have a sense whilst making this video that North Hereforshire will turn green? Solely from watching this video, it doesn't seem that the majority of the locals you interviewed were keen on voting Green.

      @@friponX thanks for your comment. I didn’t really get a sense, no. But of course, my sample size was very small! I think what swung it was the low turnout from people who would normally vote Conservative, combined with usual Tory voters going Reform, which split the right-wing vote. Otherwise, I think the Green campaign was incredible effective. Especially their graphs they released showing them neck-and-neck with the Conservatives. I think that helped to unify the tactical vote around them.

      @@barnabyomar7030 Thanks for the detailed response to my question. I found this seat's vote swing to be very interesting as it appeared to be a very safe Tory seat and the same Green candidate only won 9% of the vote in the last election. Do you have any idea why voters who decided to vote tactically would back the Greens instead of more mainstream parties like Labour or Lib Dem?

    • @barnabyomar7030
      @barnabyomar7030 Місяць тому

      @@friponX Yes. I believe the candidate, Ellie Chowns, was very strong. She's well known in the constituency and was previously an MEP and a councillor in the local area. Additionally, the Greens announced before the election that this seat was one of four that they were targetting throughout the country. They released leaflets which suggested that they were the only party with enough support to be able to beat the Conservatives (specifically quoting Labour as having said that the seat was not a target for them). They also released leaflets which included bar graphs of polls which showed them on an equal number of votes as the Conservatives. Finally, I do think there were specific environmental concerns (such as the Wye River being polluted) that presumably people thought the Greens would be more suitable at addressing. Otherwise, I'm not really an expert and if anyone has any other suggestions I'd be happy to hear their thoughts.

    Thx for taking the time to record this. The Reform voter, she mentions Starmer comes from a privileged background so nothing in common with normal people. Farage was privately educated at Dulwich which currently costs £55k per year and was a city stock broker so is exactly the same. He is excellent at playing on peoples fears and telling them what they want to hear tho. Climate change is an issue that needs sorting. Still deciding who to vote for as none of the options are good. Greens want to get rid of our nuclear deterrent which is massively naive. Tories have failed us and need removing. Labour won't commit to a timeline on defence spending...

    I wish the Green Party well. I am passionate about progressive social values, not surprisingly being a gay man. Please, the Green Party needs to rethink its relationship with islam.

    Very good. I went to the school with your Mum Joanna in the 70’s and your Nan pointed me to this when I popped in the shop earlier (walking parts of Offa’s Dyke).

    Sometimes your Nan makes me a paned, if cycling past - she is very welcoming! Great to see some focus on the community aspect of rural life. It's a hard but rewarding life for anyone brave enough.

    Love it up there, on the hills, you dont see another person all day, they all go with the crowds to Eryri or the coast. Lambing here in a couple of weeks, just down the road.
