Thanks for the comparison video. I'm more of a fingerstyle player than a flatpicking guy, so I always look for the fingerstyle comparison. I didn't think the FG5 sounded that great in the video. I definitely prefer the sound and beauty of the LL16. I have the LL16D and would be ashamed to tell how little I paid for it brand new, with a case. Even at normal street price, I don't think it has an equal for the money. I get excited every time I pick it up and play it. That said, a lot of this is just about preferences and unconscious biases.

Great review! You got me interested in one of these. I like to try different acoustic guitars out especially the lower price ones. Just ordered one in great shape. It was made same year and month as yours. OH! You still have it. Being 11 years old the top should be aged enough to give a sweet sound. Yours sure does. Bought the new fg830. JLD Bridge Truss System (Bridge Doctor). It'll work wonders on that old guitar. Believe me, I know, I have a couple of old Yamahas. Get one of those installed in that FG 331 and you'll have no regrets !!!

Replaced my old Takamine with an FG5 recently. Thought I would treat myself. It's been a long time. All I can say is it is the sweetest acoustic guitar I have ever played. Both in sound, feel, playability and build quality. I absolutely love it. And at more or less than half the price of other famous brands you really can't go wrong.

Hey James. Appreciated all your Yamaha videos and just picked up an Fsx3. Such a good recording sound with a tiny bit of mid scoop, and not to low or bright. As clear and articulate as it is the notes and sustain seem to die down a bit. Any thoughts on strings etc. I mainly finger pick but do strumming for recording. Maybe uncoated? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I love my Yamaha LL16 ARE in beautiful sunburst. Bought second hand for Australian $600. Plays great, sounds balanced and plenty of volume. I agree with the 'consistency' of Yamahas. I play Bluegrass and it's great even tho some say it's no good for that coz it's not a Martin, Gibson etc. When some friends played it they couldn't believe how good it was 'for a Yamaha'. One said it was every bit as good as his D18! Different yes but just different and great. 😀
