If there’s any recording that deserves the best quality possible, it’s this one. Unfortunately that’s not what we have, but we are very lucky to have anything at all. This is the live debut of many songs including “Still Life” and multiple “Nadir’s Big Chance” tracks, along with “Red Shift” from “The Silent Corner”. Hammill plays the first set solo before Banton and Jackson come on starting with “House With No Door”. Sadly, this is the end for our friend “German Overalls”, as it would never be played again. It served very well in Hammill’s early catalogue being the amazing song that it is. There’s some seriously annoying audio issues in this recording but if you’re able to ignore it then you’re in for a treat. Hammill is on top of his game tonight just like the other two recordings we have of this period. Hearing “Still Life” this early is fascinating, as Van der Graaf wouldn’t even play it live until after “Still Life” itself came out. Speaking of fascinating, being able to hear a live version of “Pompeii” is really cool. “Red Shift” is an exceptional song and it’s a real shame that Van der Graaf never played it live. “Been Alone So Long” would become a fairly common song later in Hammill’s career but it all begins here, before “Nadir” was even recorded. Having another recording of “Out of My Book” with flute is a real treat. “Shingle Song” would also become regular in Hammill’s setlist but it wouldn’t be for multiple decades after this show. Tragically, “Black Room” is cut short here and we only get the first half-ish of it. Super special show. A must-hear.

It's from their often forgotten first album, The Aerosol Grey Machine. Give it a listen some time, it's good
I have 3 versions of this show. One is most likely from the same source as this one here, but seems nonetheless to sound different. The 2nd version starts in the middle of Submariner, has Vision missing, but, and now it comes, but it features the complete Black Room! And House with no Door is also complete. It must be a different recording, and the sound quality is maybe better, it's at least more pleasant to listen to. The 3rd version is probably from the same source, but some songs are on different places.

For some reason Peter never played Candle ever again. This must be the only recording of this song done by him live, which is strange. Luckily the quality of the whole tape is great for this period.
also, for some reasons you've either missed or doesn't have the Terracina 1972 December 15 one. It can quite be that you own this one as well, the thing is that when it has been circulated for the 1st time it was titled like unknown one: Peter Hammill "Reel 1" Date: December 1972 - Supporting Le Orme Location: Italy (unknown town) Venue: unknown check if you do or do not own this one. If you don't have this for some reason, I can provide you a link to download this one here or on gmail you've provided, thank you again for letting us obtain all of these treasures, I hope you'll continue uploading all of them till the recent days... I've been unable to find PH most recent shows in Tokio and makes me feel kinda sad, great that he is going to be on the road again pretty soon! @@APlagueofLighthouseTapers does that mean that you don't want to upload anything else that goes beyond this early period? I mean you was uploading them almost daily and stopped 6 days ago already... Also there is the live show of 28th november 1974, which is the last of this period. I have only the 128kb/s mp3 version I've donwloaded from don't know where. It is similar (if not the exactly the same) set-list, except it starts from the lie and ends with the darkness (solo) encore. Banton and Jaxon played there too, but the sound quality is may be the worst of all the PH shows ever, and it not the 128kb/s format fault, just really a bad record...

I wanted to thank you again for what you do with uploading my fav artist shows, it means a lot, especially when I found already some that I didn't have over this period already. Huge thanks, I always hoped for someone like you to come and share finally all the good music PH wrote and performed so well. Especially anticipating for moments like K-Group, I think that was the epic, with numbers like 'Flight', but not only that. I remember someone called numbers like 'Jeunesse Doree' or 'Film Noir' to be silly, but I strongly disagree. I love 83 K-Group live shows with numbers like 'Now More Than Ever' and 'Traintime' etc...
This is truly impressive. I find this 50 years to the day after the event. I was there in seat G5. The late Tony Stratton Smith, the owner and Managing Director of Charisma Records sat right in front of us in the next row, he arrived late and turned round and asked "Has he played Refugees yet ? He was accompanied by his Minder and Chauffeur Cracky, also now sadly passed. The show started with Peter Hammill doing a few numbers on acoustic guitar before moving onto piano. Don't remember a lot of detail though the opening number was Modern. For me at least a truly historic occasion. I was 16 in 1974 and had seen Van Der Graaf Generator in 1972 just before they broke up. After they reformed in 1975 I went on to see them and PH solo many times over the following years. Thanks for posting this, it's priceless.

Perhaps the Wigmore Hall, which is such a beautiful and superb venue, and usually for classical song and piano recitals, brought PH to the top of his game. Certainly his voice is thrilling here, such as in Rubicon where he finds a lovely high line in 'Open the toybox....you are Pandora, I am the world''. There is a wonderful sense of his allowing himself the disciplined room to go for such momentary inspirations.

So this was what was broadcasted live on CHOM FM that evening. I remember listening to Genesis. I didn't know Hammill at the time and found his set strange/boring since I was there for a prog rock band. Of course, this changed soon afterwards.
