Mojo Rising Modelling
Australia
Приєднався 25 лип 2007
Scale modelling is my hobby and my passion. My aim on this channel is to give you feedback on my builds, point out any issues or perhaps give some helpful tips along the way, that may help you decide whether to buy that kit or pass. I'm not a professional, but hopefully I can teach new modellers some things to help them in the hobby. Or if you just like to see how that kit turns out. I will also do a lot of out of box reviews on kits. Cheers.

Needing a break from my other builds, I have started on the Trumpeter UH-1B, and for something different, I'm starting at step 1! So far not too bad, although the instructions in some areas is a bit vague. Also a few ejection pin marks require removal.

Finally I have finished this awful kit. Don't recommend it at all, $110 is a lot of money for this poor offering from Revell.

Finally making some progress on this build. Wings and tail are glued on, starting to paint up other pieces. The windscreen does not fit well and will be...fun getting on.

Still plugging away. The tail/fuselage fit ended up having a step, so a lot of clean up. I've finally got the fuselage done and starting to fit wings.

10 months since I've worked on this! Unfinished kits lying around are bad for my Mojo, so I'm finishing this off, it will no longer be re-scribed, I don't have time for that. I'm just going to build as is.

Getting in some progress on this build now. Interior gets an enamel wash, the gunner's doors are painted up and glued in place. Working out how to fit the minimum required nose weight is a bit of a challenge due to lack of area to place it. I come up with another solution. Wings are cleaned up and engines glued on and fuselage glued together.

Continuing to get sub-assemblies together. The cockpit and nose gear are painted and installed, other components coming together and I show how I tackle the problems that arise along the way.

Gx 2 black rocks mate!🤔 I used to be scurrrred of NMF attempts but not anymore thanks to better metallic paint choices!😁 Jman
That's a beauty
Hi there! Wonderful kit you've built! However, I think it lacks one important detail: Mk. 7 nuclear bomb on the central point between the fuel tanks. Nuclear bomb delivery was the primary role of F-101A/C after their withdrawal from SAC escort duties (which was very short after the first F-101As were commissioned).
Never found an image of this out of all the photos I looked at for references during the build. Didn't see many with drop tanks either. All the builds of this kit that I could find images of did not have this either.
@@grant6336 there are at least half dozen of them when you search them in Google, including drop sequence colorful diagram.
Looks cool. ✈
👏
Nicely done, all over any colour can be a challenge to make look real. I think I need to off load my Italeri version......
Magnificent as always Grant. I'm currently plugging away on the Airfix 1/48 Sea Fury. I'd be real happy if it turns out 1/4 as good as your builds.
Thanks Steve 👍
Hey, where is this buoy from? company? is it 3d printed? Nice work.
Buoy is off Cults 3D, yes resin printed.
The exhaust area looks great, which ain't easy. It's all about subtlety to make it look realistic.
Watching the video brought back memories of riding in the back of variouse hueys. Also you've got me thinking about purchasing this kit for a build. Got to think more about it. Maybe later in the year. Good job I truly like the progress and color choices.
Hopefully more versions of it will be along at some stage.
Looks very noice!
I just purchased this kit and the other one with the cockpit towards the tail(forgot the model designation). I built the normal tail version also. Great kits. Fitment is nice
Yes, they are good kits. I hope Amusing Hobby venture in to more aircraft.
The Huey looks like it'll be a pretty good kit. Reminds me back to the 90's and before when 5sqn was based at Fairbairn here in the ACT. Was bloody impressive when they had squadron navex's and a heap of them were flying to and from base (a bit like Apocalypse Now). My good mate who was a flight fitter with the RAAF at that time gave me a guided tour it was impressive too. Hope Trumpeter also brings out the H model Huey too.
I hope the D version as well, I imagine they will do more versions.
Got some 1/72 hueys in the stash, love helicopters. Had a couple AH1 Cobras i had built. Their gone now. A couple little boy (nephews) got ahold of them and they ended up crashing and burning. Found them in the backyard. Oh well, such is life. I saw a review of the Arifix 1/72 scale Wessex, that looks like a sweet little kit. Enjoy the UH1-B build.
When I was a kid, my models suffered similar fates. As long as they were having fun 👍
I understand your frustration an loss of interest. Ive experienced that with a number of Revell kits myself. A couple are mules now. I try to stay away from Revell honestly. Anyway. I did enjoy the video build, and i like the end result. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, Revell get a bad rap as Kitty Hawk, all there kits aren't bad though, but I understand the reluctance to go near one in case there may be issues.
Lt. (j.g.) is Lieutenant Junior Grade, the lowest officer rank in the USN. It's equivalent rank to second lieutenant in the Army, Marines and Air Force. McCuskey (fighter pilot - F4F) and McCluskey (SBD pilot) were two different pilots, both participating in the Battle of Midway. But, the pilot with direct hits on two Japanese carriers, both of them sinking, was SBD pilot Dick Best.
Despite all the pitfalls, your Scorpion turned out great.
Thanks Bill 👍
Nice work mate 👍✈️🇳🇿
Thanks mate 👍
well done looks like a great job you,ve done..nice looking plane...shame it fights you all the way...i would of stalled and moved onto another project....again well done and congratulations...it does look a beauty..
Yeah, I hate unfinished projects, bad for the Mojo, this one is down to an experience for sure.
This kit does go back to 1990 when it started as a D or J. Retooled into a C in 2000. I've done their 1/72 issue which is a better kit. It also has engraved panel lines. There is the Hobbycraft/Academy 172 series, but the Revell's better. Nice job on your model.
Looking good so far. Glue the fuselage together first and then put the wings on.
Nice progress
Give you credit for hanging in there…..it’s fighting you all the way 🤨
Not their greatest kit, for 1990 tooling anyway.
The problem with these reviews is that they all look good in the box the fit is what I want to know
I agree, the only true review is the total build, I do these "reviews" to show what the buyer is getting, if modellers are anything like me, I like to see inside the box and then decide whether it's for me or not. However, I will be building this kit soon, but if you keep an eye out, I'm sure someone else will have built it. 👍
Great review mate..Looks a nice kit of a wonderful Helicopter..All the best 🇬🇧🇳🇿👍
Nice progress so far
I admire your bravery. Kitty Hawk kits are not that good, and are filled with fit issues. I built the old Monogram kit of this jet, and even though it has raised panel lines, and soft details, it fits together pretty good.
I wouldn't build the Monogram one, I don't want the raised panel lines, but that just comes down to personal preferences. I think this kit was one of their early ones, like the Jaguar which was also modular like this. Some of their later kits were better, I did the Su-17/22 Fitter which was a nice kit, and their helicopters in 1/35 looked good from what I've seen. I think if they stayed around longer, they would have continued to improve build quality, but we'll never know now.
@@grant6336 👍
WHAT? No raised rivets :(
Looking good. Those scrapers you have, never seen them before, well I've seen you use one of or both maybe can't remember exactly. Anyway need to find me some. Thanks for the video.
Your local Hobby Store should have them, or online store. I probably got mine from BNA
@grant6336 Found them on BNA and ebay. Thank you sir
Cheers Cobber
Kit excelente!! Espetacular 🌟
Ingles no por favor
It's a big bugger for the scale. Looking good so far as per all of your builds however.
Thanks Steve, it will be an impressive size with wings on.
Im into amphibians or flying boats. Flew many times on an a old Grumman amphibian when i lived and worked in Indonesia. Pretty exciting first time taking off or landing in one. I dont believe ive ever seen this kit before. Will be looking for one this year. My wife is going to shoot me though. Thanks for the video
Nice review Grant - this goes together very nicely, I've built mine up to assembly stage, just wondering if I'll detail up the cockpit or just do it OOB. Doog's Models has done some over the top but really cool upgrades to his TBD, including a 3D printed torpedo...looking forward to seeing yours!
Thanks mate, yeah I think what's in the box suffices, looking on Hannants there wasn't much to upgrade it.
wow shes looking good nice work keep them coming mate
right on mate way to get r done keep them coming
Just watched another build of this kit and he made longer engine ring bulkhead struts to get a fit, looks like it works on CAD but not in RPP ( real plastic parts). How does this happen? Great build build and information going through the build, many thanks.
Yeah, it seemed over complicated/engineered to me, and you shouldn't need to be modifying a kit that was newly tooled in 2024 to get it to fit. In my mind anyway.
Another beautiful flying boat and this time much more colourful and interesting looking. Might have to go get one of these. Thanks for the review.
No worries 👍
Its a monster!
Thanks for tip about the oxygen bottles and the opposing panel or bulkhead piece, and the weight distribution. I've been interested in this kit since it was announced. It will go well with a Minicraft kit of Privateer I have. Which a bear to build. Thanks for the video.
It was what was available (and still is) in 1/48. Rescribing is worth it ( and yes, VERY time consuming) but hey, this is why we build. I wasted a LOT of time rescribing Monogram's A-26, then ICM released their 1/48....oh well. All part of our game. Dane
For sure it would look better re-scribed, but I don't have the time.
Ah ha! I built this kit a little while back. It was the older kit before it was reboxed etc. I left the raised panel lines, and built the kit out of the box as is. It is a nice display model of an unusual aircraft. Have a good time with your build.
Here's a method I've used to deal with raised lines that were sanded away. Tape either side of the raised line, leaving a very narrow space in between where the line was sanded away. Spread some putty in that space. Let the putty dry and remove the tape. Raised line is restored.
That will work and stretched sprue as well, but I've done re-scribe before on lost raised panel lines, a lot quicker for me.
There was only one float based Devastator ever existed. It was used for torpedoes trials on Taho lake before WW2 and its early years. So there're no other schemes needed :) What about the kit: Trumpeter, Asian lottery with 50/50 good/shit ratio... This one is 50/50 inside itself :) It has prominent geometry issues but they can be healed with aftermarket bits.
As far as I know, it is your only option in 1/32 scale.
Back in the 1980's, when I bought this kit, the red stripings on the upper wing were NOT parallel as shown in the artwork. It was a sunburst (Like 1/2 of the Japanese Battle Ensign), 1/4 on each wing with the engine pod left silver. But it was a nice little kit, even if typical of Italeri of that era.
Very good video, that italian planes are beautifull. I love hidroplanes. I´m building the Beriev 6 Madge Russian hidroplane 1/72 from Revell 1991 old tool. it´s a monster 46cm wing span and 32cm length. It was used in anti submarine operations and coast patrol . greetings from Portugal and Happy New Year. 🙋♂
Nice, the Beriev 6 is a great looking aircraft! Happy New Year 👍
Thanks for posting….those floats look massive..impressive sized kit..cheers.
No worries, yes the floats are definitely huge.
I love all the flying boat kit reviews. Looking forward to the builds.
Great review ! get ya skates on and build this one lol !
Nice review of a classic kit , i like the way you do these reviews without all the nonsense seen on most similar model you tube sites , keep it up cheers
Thanks Norm, yeah I try and keep it simple and include photos so that the viewer gets an idea of what a kit is offering them, it may help them decide if they want it or not.
@@grant6336 Yep !
