Hello,
This video will explore the complex of concepts involving breath, air, light, wind, and psychological states. We will see how the augoeides and the pneuma-ochema can be potentially seen to overlap and we will use various sources from the Hindu traditions to help exemplify and expand on certain concepts that are less articulated in the ancient Greek context.

      @@j3fr0uk I found this information in Van der Leeuw's "Phenomenology of religion", but you can check any etymological dictionary. Anyway, why do you think it is pig-latin? It's pretty intuitve that ancient people could associate breath with agency. Even English words like "animal" or "animation" suggest that. You breathe = You have soul, It's simply agent detection.

    Another fantastic piece of work Abbas. An observation on your commentary on the sun consuming the fog/mist of the morning; when I practice the Empedocles technique using all 5 senses as sacraments a very unusual thing happens. As the procedure takes hold my vision completely fogs out as though I’m enveloped in a mist or morning fog. I become functionally blind in this state which was at first a bit strange. Gradually this fog is burned off which restores a new kind of vision which is impossible to describe. It’s as though reality is lit by a different sun. Hopefully other people out there are practicing the Empedocles techniques!

    What most people don't know is that water and sea is a symbol of the kosmos and generation, the the kosmos is always changing and not static, and as Porphyry demonstrated in his "On the Cave of the Nymphs in the Odyssey", Odysseus represents the human soul, roaming through the waters of the kosmos. And since the soul bound to the senses, represented by Paris, as Sallust informs us, acknowledges only Aphrodite in the world, the goddess can be rightly said to rule the kosmos alongside with Poseidon. But as you correctly pointed out, both Aphrodite,Athena and other goddesses can share the same functions, to show that the gods are not limited to any human conception, because if Athena is philopolemic on one hand, or lover of war, on the other hand she is bright as the sun and a vehicle of the wisdom of Zeus. And does not Aphrodite loves also Ares, out of which emerges Harmonia, who, according to Proclus, is married to Cadmus, or the sublunary realm? So perhaps the gods are present everywhere, in various forms and expressions, and this connectedness between them sugests that is we who actually discriminate them, and not that they are actually different or apart from each other.

    • @abbasalchemist
      @abbasalchemist 15 днів тому

      Wonderful comment and an excellent observation! Let me direct you also to the initiatory intimations of diving into the sea (see Bacchylides Ode 17 regarding Theseus and Minos) to renew and re-establish cosmic integrity and dominion.

    • @gnomikon7836
      @gnomikon7836 15 днів тому

      @@abbasalchemist It is interesting that in that Ode Theseus is not received by Poseidon, but Amphitrite. Being that Poseidon is the maritime demiurge, that would be the same if a son of Hades descended into the underworld but was not received by his father. Because all demiurgic forms are in a way Zeus himself, logos and rationale, but adapted to each realm. In the underworld, unseen; in the sea, somewhere else riding his chariot; and perhaps in the heavens, already seated in his fiery throne, yet difficult to gaze upon, and menacing. And if Hera is the World Soul itself, it is only fair that Amphitrite be that part of the kosmos in which everything is in motion. If Zeus is eroticaly active throughout his realm, according to Butler, it is only fair that in the realm of contrariety, division and multiplicity His seed be already present there, and that out of all of that, something beautiful may be seen emerging, because everything is a product of His love, of His union with something. In that capacity, Hera becomes Aphrodite, Amphitrite becomes Aphrodite, Semele becomes Aphrodite in the eyes of Zeus, provokong his Eros, causing him to move and change form. But in reality, this never took place at one moment in time, but happen all the time always, as Salutius said, and as kabbalists and hindus say. Creation and union between the gods is always happening, and they only seem to change according to our perception.

      Marlowe's version is truer in spirit perhaps, although without the alchemical and Walpurgisnacht elaborations of Goethe. Goethe's is more interesting as a whole, but unfortunately Goethe mistitled it---"Faust: A Tragedy". Goethe allowed for Faust's Redemption. But this flies in the face of Greek "Tragedy". Transcendental redemption and admission to Heaven are anti-Tragic elements foreign to Greek tragedy.
