It's not Rap. It's the people who want to capitalize on negativity that are to blame. Not a group of people or style of music. In the 1960s and 1970s Entertainers wrote songs about peace, love and happiness. A lot of this was due to the fact that they wanted to stop the Vietnam conflict, so they wanted peace, love and happiness to be fashionable. The idea of promoting peace died in the early 1980s when Rap started getting more and more popular. Peace, love and happiness were nowhere near as exciting as money, cars, bitches and guns. And unless you only listened to Run DMC, that was the most popular subject matter. Not much has changed in the last 40 years. We need to bring musicians back if we want music to have soul. Computers and turntables have no soul. Musicians do.
