Thank you so much for gathering this pictorial history. So many memories.

My grandparents emigrated from Czechoslovakia (Austria Hungarian Empire) and settled in Kenmore, my grandfather work for Colonial Salt and my grandmother worked at one of the local bakeries. They had a house on 9th St and my mother and father newlyweds lived on Florida Avenue where my sister was born in 1937. My father worked for Hudson lumber, which I believe used to be the Kenmore Lumber?

I never could understand the big deal about Kenmore, all it is is south west Akron. They wanted nothing to do with Akron. Now it's drug infested & said let Akron handle it.😂😂😂😆😆 Kenmore police😳

No blacks in Kenmore then & hardly any today😂😂

Awesome presentation! My mom born and raised in barberton, moving to Kenmore where what is now the southern ramp to 224. Met my dad down the street at a boarding house at 18 years of age. She spoke of taking the trolley on a Saturday afternoon to see a movie on Kenmore Blvd. between 13th. and 14th. St. She also took the trolly to Summit Lake how much fun that was. I had NO idea it was as extensive as it was! Where did it all go so quickly??? We moved to Kenmore in 1960 - she and my dad raised 10 kids on E. 14th. Street. We felt safe, secure, happy, all we needed was “on the Boulevard “. Granulated 74 - drugs were moving into the community - Why did no one - politically stop them from taking over Kenmore? Destroyed the history of the beginning of industrial history of the US. Kenmore - Akron was where industry of Rubber and Steel was produced - for automobiles and building manufacturing- people moving from the South for jobs - At the age of 67, I am still heartbroken and clueless as to what happened to Kenmore, then the city of Akron. Anybody want to write that book?

Enjoyed the video but, Young's restaurant at 9 min 20 sec. is captioned as 1952. There are many cars from late '60's and early '70's. LOL!

We didn't have tv back then we would go for walks and had the best of times in the community

My mother grew up on 14th near the Kenmore Blvd. My grandfather had a barbershop there and the house was above the business. The house and street are gone now because the interstate is where their property used to be. Mom and her sister both passed away last January living in separate cities. Amazing that all these photos have been saved. Never throw them away. Such great history.

This is an outstanding slide presentation of early Kenmore , and Summit Beach.! I saw parts of Summit Beach that i had forgotten about , it was really quite the place .! The slides are informative , and bring back to reality those scenes of a by gone era I enjoyed the suitable background music , that adds greatly to the slide show !

I am in zone 5 so I should be able to do this. I hope you make another video showing how they've grown or changes you may have made.

Forgot about the flooding. Summit Lake was badly polluted and we all heard stories about using the lake water as antifreeze. During floods, I would think that a lot of pollutants were deposited on all the lands around the lake ....
