I figured out the twist before I saw the movie. Just seemed obvious.

We just accept this concept FOR A MOVIE, but it's talking about a miracle - some people, usually young, SEE DEAD PEOPLE. Their eyes can perceive another dimensional reality. I wish that ability could 100th monkey its way throughout humanity. GAMECHANGER. Forget money, capitalism, everything after that.

I saw it at the theater and realized immediately that he was dead. I thought it was super obvious. I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a twist. Needless to say, didn't care for the movie.

I had a co-worker who was pushing the movie really hard, telling everyone how hear the movie is and how it had this fantastic twist that we’d never see coming because it was such an awesome twist. I got through about 2/3 of the movie before I thought, “Hey, didn’t [co-worker] say there was a fantastic twist we wouldn’t see coming? I wonder what that is? I don’t really see what the twist would be…. Wait, is the twist that he actually died from the gunshot wounds and has been dead this whole time?” I actually didn’t want that to be true as I did not want to have guessed the twist. Ironically, at the start of the movie I thought it was refreshing to see a movie acknowledge that gunshots are not always instant death and that people are saved from them.

Honestly, it actually crossed my mind when I saw this in theaters as a kid that he was actually dead, only to write it off like 'nah, that's ridiculous'. I still feel like I'm missing out on my big brain bragging rights because of it.

At this point, Shyamalan wasn't known for his twists yet. In later movies, we expected them to have twists. But we didn't know that yet when this movie came out.

My friend's dad rented the VHS and told us to watch the movie about "this guy doesn't know he's dead the whole time". Had no idea until I grew up that that was a plot twist.

I saw it for the first time not so long ago and thought it was weird that this psychologist was available for therapy for the HJO kid 24/7. Everywhere, anytime while therapists I know of, in the office during normal office hours. But I think I did know the twist by then so I’m not claiming to be particulary smart.

I thought the kid may have been dead when I watched it, so thr twist wasn't as surprising to me.
