That was very sweet! Thank you! It’s not my country, though. I hold different passports, but I’ll always be a tourist wherever I go. A foreigner just passing through.

The description indicates the places visited, and everyone knows what took place in these two beautiful towns. Besides, my videos have to do with moods and feelings rather than geography. I also prefer to keep things subtle. Thank you for your observation.

@@roddiemazzucchimacswain Good luck with that. I lived in Scotland for 55 years and I didn't recognise the places in the pictures as I didn't live anywhere near them. Subtle is great but this is youtube.

@@madmark1957I do not monetize nor aim to monetize my videos, so luck is not required here. The works are my memories of moments, experiences, feelings. They are meant to remind me. Lots of tourist videos for you. This is different, as I do not need to do what many others do. I am aware of UA-cam, as I have been using it since its beginning and come from the country where it was conceived. Too bad you do not appreciate what I do, but the least thing I wish is to be mainstream.

@Lee-nh5bb The word crossed out in red is in objection to English language included on signage in Gaeltacht areas. The anglicized version of An Craoslach (the Gorge) is Creeslough. This is a relatively common practice in many Gaeltacht areas objecting to English language usage on signage over the years.

@@Lee-nh5bb Tá fáilte romhat. I am not local to the Gaeltacht in the video but lived in the Conamara Gaeltacht before having to move east for work. I'm an Elec Engineer and there would not have been too many opportunities for me if I stayed. Unfortunately, many people have to leave Gaeltacht areas for work opportunities elsewhere as our Govt. do not invest in these areas. Interaction with Govt services need to be done through English, likewise the Gardaí cannot speak Irish. Staff brought in at polling stations during elections don't speak Irish etc. Areas within reach of urban centers such as Galway city become saturated with English speakers looking for cheaper accommodation which dilutes the language. This becomes a further issue as if one person in a group of 10 only speaks English then the entire group conversation will slide into English so as not to exclude the one person who won't learn Irish but wants to live in the area all the same. However, the language is on the rise in urban centers despite our Govts best efforts to do absolutely nothing to support the language. The last census in 2022 noted 39.8% of the population claiming had an ability to speak Irish which was a 6% increase in the number of Irish speakers from the 2016 census. Until recently, the company I worked for had approx 20% Irish speaking staff but noticed over the years that some of the English language staff would put on some kind attempt of a leprechaun accent in the background to let us know that they felt the language was backward or something along those lines. Having said that there are many English language speakers who want to improve their Irish and most Irish speakers are happy to support them in their endeavours to do so. Many polls and surveys show our young people feel strongly about more supports for the language but still many Govt hurdles to overcome and general bigotry to overcome.

Sorry for my late reply. Just read your clever comment. The idea was to cross out a foreign name that means nothing and preserve the local language. Technically, it is vandalism, but some councillors have praised the move. I am not a local, merely a tourist who was always fascinated by Ireland. What I can say with the utmost respect is that I felt a bit sad when finding out about the real and beautiful names of places in Erin after getting to know them in English. It seemed to me that English “equivalents” had been imposed to make the original names a bit more pronounceable to an English speaker, but without the slightest consideration to sense or historical meaning. To give you an example, the first town I stopped for a Guinness (although I was convinced by the pub owner to try Beamish) was Crookhaven, which I later found out to be truly called “An Cruachan”. “Crookhaven" makes no sense at all, whereas the Irish name most certainly does.

@@roddiemazzucchimacswain Yes the result is an English language spelling put on Irish language words for place names that don't make sense at all in English and little sense in Irish as the pronunciation of the words with the English language spelling changed. Even if you speak Irish but only have the anglicized version of the place name and the pronunciation hasn't changed too much it makes it hard to differentiate between say a fictional town named Killowen (as an example) which could assumed as Cill Eoghan (Eoin's Church) Coill Eoghan (Eoin's Wood (forest)) or Cill Abhainn (the river church). Having said that, in places where Irish is not the main language of the general public it is better to have signage in this terrible form than place names being renamed as something totally new or a direct translation into English.
