I’ve heard many people confused about the song so here’s the metaphors: her sister is the petal, her brother is the dandelion, and the “Patriarchal figure” is her first husband Tommy Mattola. Her sister tried to drug her and pimp her out when she was 12, and her brother was always untrustworthy and eventually tricked her into signing herself into 2 mental hospitals back around 2001 during her “breakdown”. It’s sad that the song predicted the future by reading the past. Luckily she has removed herself from her family before they pulled a conservatorship britney style on her. And Tommy was more like a father figure to her, but he coerced her to marry him then became extremely controlling and emotionally abusive until she had to leave.

This was my very first concert. I believe it was in April of 2000. San Jose, California. I remember the emotions while watching her sing and cry to this beautiful song💓

As incredible as the first time I heard/saw it. I *love* post-TEOM/pre-E=MC^2-era Mariah. Just relishing in TEOM's success, beautiful, in charge, #1...amazing. And I remember thinking that (what would be revealed to be "For The Record") instrumental was so pretty and serene. Incredible commercial. And shoutout to Mariah Daily Journal for everything!

Mariah’s artistry/musicality is truly unmatched by anyone else ever in human existence in my personal opinion. She may not be the best performer cause she’s not an entertainer she’s a vocalist/composer no matter the artists who I may come across their art will pale in comparison to Mariah’s she will always have a special place in my heart no other vocalist or artist comes close 🖤✨🙏🏻 I’m so blessed to live at the same time as this once in 2000 lifetimes artist.
