    reason 4 :Many high-performance individuals are driven by a desire to own a business which allows them to innovate, solve problems, and contribute to society in meaningful ways.

  • @rithishshetty

    Honest opinion :- Many startups are founded by rich kids from prestigious university backgrounds because they often have easier access to funding, resources, and supportive networks. Wealth provides a safety net, allowing them to take risks more comfortably. However, success in the startup world still depends on innovation, hard work, and the ability to solve real-world problems, regardless of financial background.

    Not Ranking all the Transit in each city is bad because Toronto has an Extensive Suburban Rail system that is seeing massive Upgrades to make it act almost like a Long Distance Subway not to mention all of the other projects, Toronto is Overall building more Transit across its region than Montreal is

    • @AchyuthaReddy
      @AchyuthaReddy 15 днів тому

      Fair point! I wish I had the capacity to ride on more of the different modes of transit-still gets hard to compare though because the GTA is more populated and widespread than the greater Montreal area

    As a Bostonian and fellow content creator, I love seeing other people experience the T. It's actually changed a lot since your visit (which I'm assuming was sometime in late 2022-early 2023). The new GM, Phillip Eng is actually holding the T accountable for it's maintenance backlog and the new MA governor is actually giving the T more money for operations. They've knocked the slow zone times to just 4 minutes across the Red, Orange, and Blue lines. I would absolutely encourage you to revisit the city and see how the transit has improved. Originally, the Big Dig was supposed to have a rail tunnel between North and South Station, the two commuter rail terminals, as well, so the MBTA offered to fund some of it, but the government ran over budget and saddled the MBTA with all the debt, even though the connector never got built. The debt is estimated to be somewhere around $10 billion dollars today.

      This is so good to know! My visit was in spring of 2024, so not too long ago, but I'd love to come back after Phil Eng has had more time to work his magic :)

    it's interesting how similar the infrastructure is in Boston and GTA compared to other cities and it also shows how Boston almost completely stopped funding their system in the 90s and 2000s whereas Toronto didn't and the differences are apparent. P.S. you might wanna look into normalizing the audio between talking head clips and other clips. the audio levels jump a bit too much.

    • @AchyuthaReddy

    Great video! I live here and I learned a lot. Like I didn't realize the MBTA was so saddled with debt, and that we pay a relatively high amount (I'm not in finance, so maybe I'm misreading this budget, but is it really true that the MBTA's non-operating revenues exceeds the MTA's?). I'm optimistic that Phil Eng can improve the quality of service and reliability, as maybe that will improve ridership and revenue.

    • @AchyuthaReddy
      @AchyuthaReddy Місяць тому

      Thank you for watching! I don’t think the MBTA’s non-operating revenue exceeds the MTA (2-3 billion vs 10+ billion), but it’s hard to compare the two of them because they serve vastly different sized cities

    Nice analysis! I’ll add some thoughts about Edmonton’s system. I think that a key thing which Edmonton’s system does a better job at is serving destinations directly. I find that in Edmonton, despite its lesser extent, the train network runs directly through or adjacent to beside key destinations/trip generators such as all post secondary institutions, Rogers Arena, Stadium, malls, and, once the west leg is finished, all city hospitals. I find that with Calgary, a bunch of key destinations (MRU, most hospitals, McMahon Stadium, etc.) are missing from the network. And even with the current network, there is quite a bit of walking involved to access places such as Chinook, Southcentre, Saddledome, PLH, etc. and some of these require trekking across arterial roads. Also, because you mentioned Edmonton’s higher bus ridership and better bus feeder network, I’d be curious as to what proportion of trips involving Calgary’s LRT also involve a car (drop off and park and ride) vs Edmonton’s. I would think Calgary’s higher ridership is supported by its much higher concentration of downtown office population, but that a lot of these trips may be coming from suburban riders being dropped off or parking first. I see a much higher concentration of parking around Calgary’s suburban stations vs. Edmonton’s. Haven’t seen data on this though!

    I'm not convinced Montreal's is better lol. I haven't used Montreal's metro though. Toronto has the Eglinton cross town which is the biggest expansion in decades and the finch line coming this year and then there is the ontario line. Also the up express is basically connected to two subway lines. There is also streetcars, some are dedicated, some not. Having said that just judging by the videos I would say the Montreal metro is nicer looking and and more pleasant experience. It's a shame that Toronto does not have more extensive coverage like cities in europe and east asia, this is due to political gridlock, but at least in recent times we are headed in the right direction.

  • @christodang
    @christodang 3 місяці тому

    Having lived in both cities here's my personal assessment: - STM metro has way better coverage than TTC subway (granted Montreal is a smaller/moire compact city) - TTC wins on accessibility, STM is improving but a large number of stations aren't fully accessible yet which is a huge factor if you need the mobility - Montreal's fares are cheaper (even when accounting for the income differences in both cities) and they have better programs for the elderly/students to ride freely/cheaply - I personally prefer TTC's cross-modal integration with subway stations because it doesn't require you to exit the "paid fare" zone to take a bus/streetcar and makes for easier wayfinding for routes you're less familiar with, whereas some metro stations you have to walk a block outside of the station to find the correct bus stop Everything else you mostly covered already! Both are great systems and growing up in Montreal I obviously have bias but it's great either way to see progress in public transit infrastructure in Canada!
