Ratner's Restaurant and other long lost New York City Lower East Side kosher dairy restaurants formerly constituted part of a New York City version of the "Borscht Belt." CORRECTION: In this video I mistakenly mentioned "nouveau" cuisine: the correct term however, is "nouvelle" cuisine.

The music is OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD!!
I'm surprised that you didn't include the famous sweetheart staircase from Rosecliff in Newport. My favorite that I have actually seen is the one in the Hackerman House (now part of the Walters Art Museum) in Baltimore, MD. Great video.
Incredible how such Widows and The Stained Glass Dome in the Dinning Room are not valued for Construction by Developers in these Days! Loved seeing these things. Thank you for bringing these. And, yes , I do think that Gothic Arched Entryway ...(that at its time might have been thought just ...an added item of mere Fancy...) was...uplifting.
I enjoyed this nostalgic trip to 5th Avenue and the fabulous Petit Chateau. I would like to note that Richard Morris Hunt often used double fireplace surrounds in his projects. In fact, Biltmore has a triple fireplace surround! Thanks again for a wonderful video!
Love the Stained Glass features that you include in some videos.. . Its so good to see pics and facts that might have been forgotten but for your efforts with these videos ....
Amazing...not only did Autos scare off the Horses, but they started the loss of Historical Architectures...
Love your content, but music iv very load.
beautiful 😻
Impressive video, randolphsrants. Looking forward to your next upload. I smashed the thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the amazing work. The architectural details of those staircases are stunning! Do you think the resurgence of interest in historical architecture will lead to more preservation efforts for such magnificent structures?
Thanks! Yes...but it's always an uphill battle.
Lovedthis one. Still trying to figure out how that wonderfully illuminating stainedglsss window was structurally fit in above that Fireplace!
Split flue: that was how the tour guide at the Lockwood-Matthews mansion (Norwalk, CT) described how the beautiful acid-etched window was installed over the back to back mantles in the hall and drawing room was installed.
@LJB103 thank you....
But, I miss Ratners..
Go to B&H Dairy at 127 2nd Ave. for old school kosher dairy cuisine
How is that not a landmark yet?
As usual , this is a fine video taking us to another place that we might otherwise not see ...and clearly understand how this Historic and necessary American place was in the 18th or 19th Century! Amazing to see it and its iconic place remains in these Days!
Businesses are just letting these buildings go. Taxes are too high 🤷🤷🤷
I know Mulberry Street very well, born and raised there. To me, those buildings remind me of a futuristic looking "Colonades". The views of the Manhattan skyline will cost owners a lot more.👌🏿
Like the Pictures (preferred the nutcracker s.t.) that mansion must have been something!
No speach
Oh....there should be a compiled set of some of these videos ...that could be " packaged " & ("Sold"? Or) made available Through INDIVIDUAL State's Departments of Education /or Regents ...for use in Teachers'( State Regulated Requiered) Syllabi... !?
Love that these ( each) were Framed in the "Shield of King David" [ " Magen David"] ....even if one was the Royal Arms of ...the King of England... ; "...a Certain Insult to Any True 18th Century Modern Republican Patriot ...!" :)
Am Dismayed to hear that this has not been declared a Historic Edifice! That after the loss of all such historic and architecturally unique things from NYC , one must search In Italy or the Far East for any Thing similar on Earth...is incredible!
Vornado are rapacious philistines who think only of lining their pockets.
Very well said!
This video was very interesting ; that you showed the other Butler ( Midevil style ) warehouse in another city was Especially insightful. The background music soundtrack was point on in the spirit of your premise! I enjoyed it. Thank You. Why shouldn't these good presentations circulate among Architecture Societies and Sororities in the Academia World...starting with H.S. and CommonBranch Science Teacher Societies. If Teachers want to excite and interest Students in Design and Architecture, these kind of "Historical Snippits " could be Easily applied to develop Questions and interest in How things work, develop and influence Desigh and "percieved" advances in various times ...as well! A gifted person "child or Adult" can draw concepts from the exposure to such examples of both beauty and anticipated function across moments...in Time. I am puzzled as to why ...other Students of Design and engineering Function ( at least ) have not thought to create such videos ...for a needed Posterity.
The old design of towers are the best.
How about building affordable housing in Newark so the residents can live uncrowded and safe, Newark doesn't need this 🤨

Great job!
The hotels. Yes! The Savoy-Plaza, The Astor and Rector/Claridge, The Ritz Theatre, The Hippodrome in 1939 and the original Opera House on Broadway and W39th Street long gone and now the old Commodore Hotel and recently Hotel Pennsylvania across Seventh Avenue from the original Pennsylvania Station demolished from 1962-66.
Sadly yes: and you certainly do know your stuff though...
Thnaks for the video. It showed up on my recommendations page and I really enjoyed learning about this building and the historic photos you selected were good as well as the piece of music (rhapsody in blue?) in the end. ONE RECOMENDATION: something is up with the audio, your voice seems to be moving all over the place from left ear to right ear every few seconds. I t was very distracting. Again, Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to improve the audio in future videos.
Yes.... it's Rhapsody in Blue
Color blind?
Nice history of old-time Jersey City railroads.
I think another one that deserves to get mentioned is the Hotel Astor that was located in Times Square. Completed in 1910, and demolished in 1967 for One Astor Plaza, which in my opinion, look "ok" at best. A juxtaposition from the master piece that came before it. But hey, if it wasn't torn down it might just have found itself stripped of it's façade and covered in advertisements. Just like the Times Tower was. (Also in the 1960s. Because of course.)
This is Eye opening! But , what about the Columbus Statue and the "Fountain "and its....memorial plaques?
Well, "enjoy" is a stretch.
I’m glad to see a development in Downtown Jersey City that does not leave me with mostly melancholy or sadness!
I am watching a bunch of videos on former buildings in NYC The City building on right now. Yikes is right.
How long before they tear it up?
You sir are a life savior...... But there's only one problem. I NEVER HAD CRAZY GLUE ON MY FINGERS TO BEGIN WITH
Very helpful tip! It Works....Thank You. ( But, "How to get a tongue loose from a frozen metal flagpole in the winter "...? Friends , don't fall for those college Sorority Hazing Ritual scams....from people who never Really did it themselves! Just....(er....) ; ' Saying '! .... :)
Honorable mention: World Trade Center
it was destroyed, not professionally demolished. there is a difference.
@ you sure it wasn’t professionally demolished? Those towers, especially building 7, looked like pretty professional demolitions to me…
@@COOLyoutubeguy64there where a few billionaires that benefited from 911. This world a evil place.
It's the City Investing Building, not the Cities Service Building.
....if one watches the video carefully one will see that it does actually contain a written correction of the name.
Yes, a shame.
YOU FORGET SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT NEAR THE OLD SINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE HORRIBLE DEMOLITION OF THE TWO HUDSON TERMINAL TOWERS FROM 1908, AND THE ENTIRE DISTRICT WEST OF THERE, KNOWN AS RADIO ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS OCCURRED BEGINNING AROUND 1965!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE WAS BUILT ON THE SITE THUSLY CREATED????????????? NOTHING LESS THAN THE TWIN TOWERS AND ASSOCIATED BUILDINGS OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a shame. Did not know about this one. More please.
It's really helpful that you console Us with the news of the establishment of the Landmarks Commision after the Loss of the many iconic and impressive historically relevant structures. This video is no Doubt eye opening for younger viewers unfamiliar with impressive examples of detail and grandeur exemplified in Structure!
Very sad that these iconic buildings were demolished in the name of greed and progress! This should never happen again in New York City or any other place in America or the world!
great schiz content keep it up!
Love this building and the history of it! NYC has some of the best buildings and sites in the whole world!
Very very cool...the dog too!!!
